agree 100% re laffranchi, the fact that we played for nsw and australia whilst at the coast proved that for a long time rep selectors ignored wests players
but in any under rated player poll ben galea must be the winner, if he had of played for a glamour team like easts or saints he no doubt would have played 10 origins. brilliant, brillant player and like many tigers fans i believe he should have won the CC medal in 05.

The most under-rated player in recent times would be Todd Payten for mine. He never ever shirked his task, and did whatever it took to gain ground and move the side forward. Todd created the gaps for others to get the glory, and he will be very hard to replace. Not a pretty player, but extremely effective, and A1 in my books!
yeah i agree 100% with ben galea. he's still doing well over here in england too.
and i will also add good old fitzy. he was shifted around to different positions, but always gave 100% for his club
another one, who i dont think we really appreciated as much until he was gone, was patty richards. i dont really know the full story, but we should have done more to keep him. over in england he even won the english super league player of the year…which is amazing for a winger. plus he's a good goal kicker too. oh well...

As you said he has really left his mark in the ESL with a man of steel award.( As have a lot of Aussies who head over there ). His goal kicking has been second to none.

i know he was coming back from a shocking injury in 2004 but in reality he only put in for about 12 weeks in 2005 and AFTER he signed with wigan. before then he was very average, dont let the 2005 highlights dvd fool you.
its a real shame because if he had of played to his potential all of 05 then he no doubt would have been kept on by us and probably played lots of rep footy by now

I think Tyron Smith and also Robbie Mears, I thought he a had a blinder of a year in 04 and I remember thinking how much of a massive blow it was when he retired at the end of that year… Not knowing we had someone like Robbie Farah waiting in the wings.
Also Troy Wosniak, I remember him busting the line and scoring some tries, had a bit of speed for a 2nd rower from memory?

Personally I always liked Corey Pearson. Wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty and for a long time was the last player sent off in an NRL game (a fact which won be a jackpot at a trivia night once)

What about Owen Craigie? I don't know if he would have been classified as 'under-rated' but he definatley was an extremly gifted player who on his day could match it with anyone. I still remember the game at C'town against the Knights when we came back from 24-0 and 32-12 respectivley. Craigie won that game on his own. So even though he wasn't technacally 'under-rated', had he had a better attitude, he realy could have been anything

Robbie Mears was a very handy player who did some good things with us. Was just unfortunate for him that Farah came along
Troy Wozniak was also under-rated. I remember a game against the Dogs, it might have been his first game actuallly, where the Dogs had a scrum on halfway, spread the ball, and Vagana raced away, and Wozniak broke from the scum, chased him down and put him into touch 5 m from the line

He scored one against the Warriors i thought it was…over in NZ. Could be wrong but i recall it as the Warriors.
I remember he scored a hat trick out at either Campbelltown or Cronulla, he just had this ability to bust the line out wide with his speed. He went to England for a year and then just disappeared.
Jason Lowrie is another that comes to mind, I only saw the end of his career, I remember he was a good honest worker, I remember it took him like 130, 140 odd matches until he scored his first try… Must of been in the Bryce Gibbs mould :laughing:

Ben Duckworth was always a player with potential.
Adam Nable was unsung too in that first year of the WT (barely played though).
Buettner - WAY UNDERRATED
Loved Buddha - he was awesome.
Galea - those 'bullocking' runs.

He scored 20 tries which was a club record at the time, he was a handful for oppositions, his dropouts were brilliant at getting us out of trouble (50-60m on the fly 90% of the time), and his effort in the GF playing on just 1 leg was the stuff of legends.
Although people are right, hes not really underrated by us fans.
