Watched Elsyium the other day, that was pretty good but doesn't reach the same heights as District 9\. Matt Damon was solid again and Sharlto Copley was good.

Ron Burgundy 2004 in the train, (4/10)

About to fire up Les Miserables in a few mins. (8/10)

Book Recommendation While I'm at it. " The Road" by Cormac McCarthy (9/10)

omg. sharknado. omg. the best thing about watching sharknado (apart from laughing at just how ridiculously bad it is) is reading the hilarious user reviews on IMDb!!! classic…

Loved the way way back. Was such a good film. Rockwell was amazing and Steve Carrell made me really hate his character. Well worth a look at.

Fraze, have you seen Moon?

(pretty much has sam rockwell and no one else!). great movie in a very 2001 type way. also kicks Oblivion's arse when it comes to this sort of theme.

im just about to start Sharknado… cant wait to have all my senses and cognitive abilities tested!!

Watched it today on your recommendation, wasn't disappointed. Sam Rockwell is fast becoming one of my favorite actors.

excellent!! I'm glad you liked it.

i think gravity is similar in its pacing and having minimal characters. both show you don't need gigantic robots fighting alien monsters and cities being obliterated to be a really good movie.

Paul Walker passed away after being in a horrific firey car crash. It's quite ironic yet very sad. He died while raising funds for the Philippine typhoon disaster.

R.i.P Paul Walker how they gonna do last fast & furious without him?

They'll have to change the script and kill him off if they want to keep what he's filmed. Or write him out of the script. Either way the movie will be happening, especially with the free advertising that will come with it.

I have always been a fan of exploitative and extreme cinema. I like films that pack a punch, are disturbing and make me feel something. I cannot stand 90% of the dribble that comes out of Hollywood. It is so contrived and basically panders to the lowest common denominator. For that reason I tend to stay away.

Having said that, I watched a burnt copy of a Hollywood movie last night that must have included 30 known actors - several of which are either oscar winners or have been nominated for their work. It was directed and produced by one of the Farrely brothers and the trailer promised an irreverant comedy.

The film was movie 43 and it is without doubt the most retched pile of puss I have seen in years. I have no idea how these good actors got conned into starring in it. All I can guess is that Hollywood has a great dirt file and these people are all in it. It has to have been blackmail. Sure there is a couple of laughs (Terrence Howards motivational speech to the leagues only negro basketball team in the 1960's where he says dont worry you will win because you're BLACK and they're WHITE….this aint hockey, was reasonable in a dark comedy type of way), but for the most part the producers haven't been clever and have offered a film so chock full of try hard gags that it is a bit embarrassing. "Try-hard" is the operative phrase here as they have tried to be shocking, they have tried to be offensive, they have tried to be controversial. Truly offensive and disturbing films are so because certain situations are possible and when they occur, they are the stuff of nightmares. This garbage looks like it was written by 12 year olds in an attempt to p1ss their parents off.

The only way you could really appreciate this is to grab some immature friends, eat some hash cookies and let yourself get blown away by this pathetic attempt at comedy. The ridiculousness of it might get the desired effect if you are smashed.

With themes including sexual mutations, copraphelia, necrophelia, incest, murder, racism, sexism, misogeny, beastiality, homophobia and just general bad taste, you would be forgiven for thinking this was a sequel to A Serbian Film. At least that film had some sort of twisted message even though they were going for maximum impact. This one is just trying to be notorious and by using so many big name actors is basically saying we know the public is stupid enough to swallow any old crap we dish up.

Anyway I thought it was garbage and with its 3% score on RT it seems that most agree.

I laughed plenty watching it. It's not taking itself seriously so I don't see why anyone watching it should take it seriously. The movie was exactly the way they previewed it. Just for laughs and I lauded plenty.

I think it does take itself seriously. I think there has been a conscience effort to produce skits that will offend. They have attempted to make a notorious flick but have just made a terrible one instead. If it was a b grade, low budget effort than no one would care but filling it with a listers and other big names just goes to further prove my point. I see this film as an experiment to see just how dumb the cinema going public are.

ive seen movie 43 on a couple of 'worst ever' lists and so havent wasted my time with it. it sounds like yet another movie riding on the jackass model of "movie" making, like borat, bad grandpa etc.

i have to say i get the feeling that the vast majority of film goers these days seem to love the incredibly superficial, dumbed down rubbish hollywood puts out.

amazingly clichéd, done to death, and having a complete lack of originality in its entire body and premise ("unobtainium"?! really?!), avatar is still the highest grossing movie of all time. its embarrassing and proof that all (most) people want is something to look pretty whilst being proud of themselves that 'they really get it…'. ugh.

i watched Prisoners today.
i really liked the atmosphere of it, but ultimately thought it was a bit of a mess with the story.
i like the cast and the premise, and don't mind a slow grinding story but in the end there were too many "what was that all about?!" stems off the main plot that i feel detracted from what could have been a great, Mystic River-like movie….
6/10

I saw Anchorman 2 today. It's a pretty random movie pretty much throughout but I laughed plenty. The cameos towards the end were a bit of a surprise too.

I didn't mind it, good acting from all involved although it's certainly a bleak and depressing film and reminded me of The Grey in terms of tone and atmosphere.

Also saw American Hustle. Brilliant acting, particularly Christian Bale although some of the characters I found annoying, although it's probably testament to the quality of acting in portraying those characters too.

Looking forward to the next Jack Ryan instalment and the re-boot of Robocop.

Looking forward to the Jack Ryan one too. I'm not getting my hopes up for the Robocop reboot. One of the things that made the original so amazing was Verhoeven's direction. It's very hard to remake one of his films (such as Total Recall).
