While I agree with you, Russ, I do think we need to find an alternative. I think, in some sort of order the best fullbacks are:
Teddy,
Turbo,
Ponga,
Gutho,
Papps,
Charnze,
Tuivsa-Scheck

then a gap to

Dylan Edwards
Latrell
maybe Moylan
etc etc.

I think the Manly replacement is better than AD.

Point being, a great fullback doesn't necessarily make a great team but looking at that list, the top all teams have a very good fullback. AD is a long way from that class.

Yet shockingly, his numbers this year at fullback are every bit as good (if not better) than Charnze and RTS and not far from Ponga.

It's footy, unfortunately, not maths.

I know most in here are desperate for speed but I think the modern game is more power than speed. Except for fullback. Big powerful backs simply run a numbers game but the slick fullback sets the cat amongst the pigeons as an extra man or a decoy. It's always nice to see a long range try finished by a flying winger but they are fairly rare these days. If tries don't come from powerplays they come from kicks. I think AD in the centres would be perfect for either.

On the Doueihi chat, he does seem to be slowed down by a niggling injury. Watching some of his Souths highlights he seemed faster in them. Hopefully the lack of pace is only temporary. Defensive can't really complain with how he's been going. In attack I think he's reading the game well but not quite getting the choice of pass right. With time that will come and I think he'll become a good fullback.

I basically agree with your list TB - however they all have 2 seasons + playing FB except Paps and that mongrel from Souffs.

I think AD at the end of his 2 seasons will be as good as a few on that list.

If you were to replace AD at FB - no one on that list is available, so you really are looking at a cc player, a bench player etc. You mentioned Brendan Elliot ( I also did in another post earlier) who is a winger for Manly, quite quick, tad over 6 foot and fills in for Tubo Tom from time to time. I like him but I do not think he is better than AD but I think we should go after him as a winger and fill in FB.

AD is our best fullback and probably our best 5/8. At 6 he could have the simple game plan of run hard like a 2nd rower or give early ball out wide.

The spine is missing a good support player, we make a lot of breaks and half breaks but there is no one there to take advantage. Look what a difference Tedesco's support play makes for the Roosters or Gutherson's makes for Parra.

I thought that is why Walters was bought here. He should have been on the bench as a utility he could be dynamic coming off the bench trailing
Grant. It will be an interesting week as Brisbane radio are reporting Walters or Glanville could be off to the Raiders this week as potential replacements for Hodgson.

Why does everyone think Talau is back this week? If he's re-injured a hamstring, there is no way he'd be playing this week and unlikely for a few weeks I'd imagine.

I've never heard of a player returning from a hamstring injury as quick as Talau did, so I'd say he was rushed back because we have no one else.
