Nofoaluma - Contract Thread..

That whole edge was back to the dark days yesterday - loads of issues with numbering up and not sliding. Nofo had a couple of poor reads, but hard to blame him solely as those inside are equally culpable.
He also ran down Semi and Jennings after giving them a head start.

He's an average winger. Nothing more. He's a finisher, and metre eater. He's also poor in defence, poor under the high ball, not very fast and has some errors in him. Our fans over-rate him because he scores spectacular tries and makes impressive gains coming out from our own end.

Sure he has some muppets defending inside him too, but he makes the wrong call on too many occasions on whether to go for the intercept, or make a tackle.

We will end up paying overs to keep him even though no-one else wants him. Parra want him apparently - yet targeted him all game long? There might be a weakness in team tactics but targeting deficiencies in defence is hardly a vote of confidence in the players' ability.

I hope you have read your own post and noticed the contradictions. Maybe not.

The defence issues start with Moses. He has no idea. Goes up to quick and usually misses everything but air. That means that his outside men have to come in, including Nofo. In the old days, the lock forward would be covering behind the backline. These days, this does not happen.

Hopefully, Cleary will sort these problems out.

I agree w col. Nofo makes some mistakes, but they are not all his fault. Both edges are poor and I believe it starts with Moses on our RHS, he comes way too far in-field and usually gets sucked in by the dummy runner.

Nofo was hardly targeted by Parra all game, they ran 3 of their tries down our LHS with JLJ-Suli-Naiqama.

Also Nofo "scores spectacular tries and makes impressive gains from our own end". Gees that's tough, there are only 4 jobs for a winger - finish, early hitups, defend, defuse, and apparently he does half of those extremely well. He also leads the league in offloads (not all good ones, but nevertheless) and tackle breaks.

Nofo makes as many defensive boo-boos as any winger in the side over the last 6 seasons, it's part of the overall Tigers edge weaknesses. He'll still make errors in future but if we fixed the defensive issues overall, he'd be much less exposed.

As I said, some of his errors are due to those inside him, but many are also down to his poor decision making. Passing the buck to the inside men doesn't cut it. Even when the others do his job properly he still makes mistakes and needs to be justly criticised like the rest of the team are.

And you only need to see the number of breaks they made outside Nofo to see how much they targetted him. But yes of course Keven is even worse than Nofo but often the break was made on his side, then scarmbled to the other wing where the overlap was.

If as jirskyr says wingers have 4 jobs and he can only do 2 of them well then he's only doing half his job. He's by no means hopeless, and we have and do have much worse, but he's no 400k winger thats for sure.

I know its off-topic but how well did Nofo do to run Jennings down yesterday

I seriously gave him no hope

With Simona i would have been 50/50

Well done nofo, he made a couple of Big mistakes and he nearly fixed both
Once by taken the Semi trailer into touch and then mowing Jennings down

Yep, that's one winger we have with speed but another one on Kev's wing would be great.

Reported today that Nofo has re-signed today for a further 4 years.

It's not all bad news and some good players still want to play for this evil club, lol.

Good to see him stay. I think his defensive issues will be largely fixed by a centre who has a bit of speed inside him. He and Idris were caught out early because Idris couldn't foot it with Jennings who used his speed to get on his outside which drew Nofo in, which opened up the sideline for Radradra.

Rewind a few years, Lawrence used to be great at this prior to his hip injury and he had the same type of formation with Tuiaki and then Tuquri.

Fullback position sorted perhaps …..

Good to see another on the bus.
Nofo is one we needed to keep as well. We have struggled to keep wingers and they are an important part of the game.

I guess we have to wait 10 business days, Anzac Day and two weekends to know for sure?

Nah, clubs tend to say that they have signed a player before the cooling off period ends. Well we did regarding brooks, sharks regarding bird etc.

There ya go confirmed!!
