We have had multiple threads on this in the past but dont forget Pascoe was also getting it from Egan backing up Cleary's request. Hard to say no when you have the 2 x professionals in your ear. Yes, I agree he should have but understand the situation Pascoe was in. Assume he has well and truely from those days.

That's the risk you take when you get a guy who's never be a CEO before . Our previous one had no experience either. Bargain buys.

He was CEO at the Pamfers before he came to us.

Incorrect

You seem pretty sure of that.......want to reassess? Phone a friend?

He’s right, he was head of rugby league. Wasn’t CEO. Brian Fletcher is current CEO and before that it was Warren Wilson (when Pascoe was there)

It is the same job. Head of NRL is the Chief Executive Officer on behalf of the board to run the NRL operations. CEO of Panthers (Fletcher) is CEO of the entire Panthers Group (Including a multitude of licensed clubs.

Its the same position as CEO at Tigers

Rock and a hard place with Pascoe. He’s done a lot of hard work and been tireless in securing this clubs future but he’s also overseen some very amateurish and expensive errors.

At Panthers he reported up to Wilson. Wilson still ultimately called the shots, like Fletcher does now. Pascoe wasn’t the big boss, had someone above him he had to answer too.

I know very well the difference between a CEO and a divisional head, which is what Pascoe was. He answers to the board here because he is CEO, he answered to Wilson at Penrith because Wilson was CEO. There is a difference.

Does Pascoe run the operations of 5 licensed clubs? Does Pascoe have a subordinate who job is to be responsible for the operations of all of Wests Tigers NRL operations? No he doesnt. They are ***entirely different jobs*** that happen to have the same name.

On the other hand, the "Head of NRL" at Panthers is entirely responsible for all NRL operations and the running of the NRL division, which is ***exactly the same*** job that he has at the Tigers, but happens to have a different name.

Ridiculous semantics.

I agree.

Hes guilty by association only.Pascoe and Cleary were once mates. How would he have known was going to do the dirty.

Much more than that....he handed over total power. He sat there and signed off on ridiculous deals.

Josh was offered 550 and short term at Dogs...we offered 750 and 4 years. Even Josh was shocked ('life changing deal') yet Pascoe sat there and signed off on it.

Packer, who I like, had already struggled to make it through a full season ...and we gave him four years.

The length of the deals was always INCREDIBLY risk...Pascoe should have acted in the club's interest and said "wait...four years for JR?! He has broken down three years running! way too long Ivan..."

But instead he signed off on them all.

Seriously though, it’s not like Cleary wouldn’t have come to him with analytics and a convincing plan. Is my CEO going to ask me about the inner workings of my technical job , of which he knows probably nothing . Or trust my opinion about what is required to do a certain thing . The best leaders surround themselves with experts . Of which Pascoe trusted that Cleary was the expert about football , so he could concentrate on things like making the Club profitable , getting the COE over the line and strengthening the clubs position off the field .
I can’t believe people on here hold him responsible for bad player signings. It’s ? the coaches fault . All Pascoe does is , really , sign off on what Cleary , and that guy we got from Canterbury , who was the FOotball Manager at the time , say is the right choice .
He got screwed. We got screwed . You live and you learn. Sometimes the best bloke isn’t the one , who will be a lot of fun at the pub , but rather the dude who tells you youre a jerk , but be there when your times get tough.
We all put too much stock in that bloke who’s a good hang .(cleary)

The point of the whole thing was -

He had the experience to be the CEO of Wests Tigers.

So thanks for the answer.

I am still convinced the whole IC saga was part of a bigger scheme by the Panthers to try and kill us off. My tin foil hat is strapped on for this one.

Why would the Panthers bother? Would be like the USA putting significant resources into ruining the economy of Chad.

It is the IC conspiracy
IC found his way back to Penrith through us at the Tigers
The pressure was on Penrith to sign IC if they wanted to keep NC
They Sack Anthony Griffin
Sign NC to a big and long contract
Then sign Daddy IC to Keep little NC happy
To cap it off IC wanted Gould gone
Brad Alexander knew how good NC was and did not want to loose him
Ivan would make a great chess player
We were just one of this Pawns that he was happy to sacrifice
He got back to his castle and now is working his way to King
Lets hope he falls off the Horse on the way and lays at the feet of the Pawns again
I would call that piece the Scum

The best leaders surround themselves with experts . Of which Pascoe trusted that Cleary was the expert about football , so he could concentrate on things like making the Club profitable , getting the COE over the line and strengthening the clubs position off the field .
I can’t believe people on here hold him responsible for bad player signings. It’s ? the coaches fault . All Pascoe does is , really , sign off on what Cleary , and that guy we got from Canterbury , who was the FOotball Manager at the time , say is the right choice .
He got screwed. We got screwed . You live and you learn. Sometimes the best bloke isn’t the one , who will be a lot of fun at the pub , but rather the dude who tells you youre a j**k , but be there when your times get tough.
We all put too much stock in that bloke who’s a good hang .(cleary)

And not lets forget Pascoe and Cleary were great mates at the time so JP wouldnt have questioned anything IC had done ......hows that going for both of them atm...

I am still convinced the whole IC saga was part of a bigger scheme by the Panthers to try and kill us off. My tin foil hat is strapped on for this one.

Why would the Panthers bother? Would be like the USA putting significant resources into ruining the economy of Chad.

Chad is a good bloke

The point of the whole thing was -

He had the experience to be the CEO of Wests Tigers.

So thanks for the answer.

Yet still did a horrible job. And continues to do so.
