The NRL says we've breached the cap but it's a stretch to say we've cheated unless you are in possession of facts the rest of us are not. Cheating is a deliberate and purposeful act - where's your evidence we committed a deliberate and purposeful act? I think it's 100% correct that we've breached cap rules but the question is how did the breach arise. Was it a reporting oversight, a failure to understand the rules or deliberate flouting of the rules (e.g Storm, Parramatta, Canterbury)? The point most on the forum are trying to make is that the punishment has to fit the crime.

Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah has vowed to walk away from rugby league before any of his teammates are squeezed out because of the massive salary cap penalty handed to the club this week as a result of his post-career ambassador role.
The Tigers are still coming to terms with the heavy reprimand handed to them by the NRL on Wednesday for failing to disclose the deal worth $639,000.

Not only has chief executive Justin Pascoe been deregistered, the club has been fined $750,000 and, most significantly, the value of the Farah deal has been scrubbed off next season’s salary cap.
Right on cue, Farah’s detractors placed the blame squarely on his shoulders, despite the NRL making it clear that he and his manager, Sam Ayoub, have done nothing wrong.

“It’s hurtful, mate,” Farah said. “I don’t know why I’ve been dragged into it. I am at a point now where I am thinking about walking away. I don’t want to play. Things were going good. I was in a good headspace back at the club. But now it’s another drama. Robbie’s caused all the drama again …”

Farah received a phone call earlier this month from the NRL integrity unit, who wanted to interview him about the ambassador agreement Pascoe first promised in 2015.
Pascoe says it was offered as a “goodwill gesture” to Farah, who had an ugly fallout with then-coach Jason Taylor. Farah was eventually pushed out and he signed with South Sydney before making a stunning return in the black and gold midway through this year.
Farah hasn’t been paid a cent from the deal and, with his growing VIP sports travel business Two4Seven starting to take off, might not want it.
Either way, he’s “gobsmacked” about the sanctions that have been slapped on Pascoe and his club.
“I feel sorry for Justin,” Farah said. “He’s a good man and he’s turned the club around. Myself and him, we went through some tough times when the drama unfolded with the old coach [Taylor]. But I’ve never questioned his integrity. For him to be deregistered through all this is just absurd. When this was first discussed, he just wanted to mend how I had been treated. It was a show of goodwill. He’d seen how I’d been disrespected and thought this was just the right thing to do for me post-footy.

“I don’t understand the enormity of the fines because it was public knowledge. You’d written about it [the ambassador role]. A million journos had written about it. I’d spoken about it in the media. It wasn’t something that we’d tried to hide.
“It had absolutely nothing to do with my old playing contract, or my current playing contract in coming back to the Tigers. I got my contract paid out in full when I left to go to the Rabbitohs. There were no deferred payments or anything like that. It’s not like they [the Tigers] tried to hide it.

But my name is being dragged through the mud for no reason.”

The NRL first introduced that provision to compensate clubs who had to push out perennial bad boys to other clubs. It wasn’t for clubs to offset payouts for players like Farah who had fallen out with a coach who was ultimately sacked.
“That hurts, too, though,” Farah admitted. “It’s not nice to hear that and, in my opinion, I wasn’t the disruptive influence. The ex-coach was. I know why the club did it: they wanted the biggest discount they could get. It was about saving dollars because they had to pay me out more than a million dollars. But it’s not nice to hear.”
