Paseka Released

There has to be a bit of a wrinkle to this. Perhaps they have agreed to take on Lawrence's contract in exchange for releasing Paseka to them.

We're getting Siro back, of course we now have to pay him his original tigers contact and now his manly contract aswell.
Tiger economics.

If this is true I really don't understand it at all. We have minimal depth as it is and have absolutely nothing to gain for doing this.
The only logical reason I can think of is he had a clause in his contract if the coach was sacked, but even still his contract extended beyond Taylor's anyway.
I realise he is untested, but it makes zero sense to release him given our depth.

Perhaps the other young props such as JJ, Junior Tatola and Thomas Mikaele were considered better prospects at lower cost?

Why bother re-signing him last year then? I don't see what we would gain by releasing him.

Will be announced this week he is joining Manly

With a swap for Brenton Lawrence or Jake Trbojevic ??

We are a rabble sadly. We are odds on to lose the 4 and Cleary to pass on the job also.
I have zero faith Paseka has all the tools why on earth would we release him. Same with Pap chances are Teddy leaves he is next in line.

First of all, where are you getting this information that Paseka has been released?

Secondly, multiple sources are claiming Cleary has already signed.

Lastly, I believe that we will keep at least 2-3 of the 'big four.'

I hope you are right. Info from former Dragons player.

Dont understand this if true. The 20's are outgunned midgets and that won't change this season. Paseka is the only big unit there and against the Storm, the only forward capable of making busts. His defence is nothing great but he is a very big guy with undoubted potential. The half back is the only other player there who even looks up to 20's standard. These two , and Papenhuzen are probably the only three worth keeping. I don't follow this decision ( like many others) at all.

Don't rate Mikaele?

He was in the NRL squad this year - perhaps him leaving gives us enough $$ (along with Simona's $$) for a mid-season pickup.

Dumb, dumb. Dumb this is the dumbest move he is a giant! And that's what we need.
Also how does mainly seagulls get to make a grab at him?? Smells fishy, I'd be talking to the NRL about the seagulls talking to a contracted player…

Could be? We've landed a couple of mid-late off season signings last year.

We would have to be signing someone pretty bloody good for this to make any sense. Either one of Manly's very best juniors (a backrower perhaps) or a current NRL player not getting a shot at another club.

It's like anytime clubs come and ask us about our juniors:
"Hey this kid goes pretty good, can we have him for free?"
WT: "Sure, no problem".
"Really? That's awesome, you're a legend mate! I'll send you a fruit basket to say thanks!"
WT:" That's very generous of you. Pleasure doing business"

This doesn't make any sense. If this is true the club better have a really good explanation.

They make it really hard to support this team at times. They really do. When he plays rep football we can all reflect on the broken down hack we signed to replace him. He's 18 and massive. I don't understand the sense in releasing him if he was under contract. I'm just sick of the club hyping guys when they sign or re-sign only to release them months later. I don't understand why management feels they're running some sort of rugby league benevolent fund. Nice guys do finish last in this case.

I can't think of anyone from the Sea Eagles besides Jake Trbojevic that I would want to join the club. Also I don't think Paseka is on enough for us to buy another player.

Depends how much we had left over from Simona.

Or are we **still(!)** over the cap?

I think we were only a little over the cap and Simona was on about 350-400 I think.

Don't you reckon before you boil over, if Paseka is indeed gone, wait until the club makes a formal statement and explains themselves?

People are getting agitated that he might be gone, but they have zero idea what the justification may be. There has to be a justification, not necessarily one that satisfies all comers, but there is a reason if he's gone.

Id love to know it but often we dont hear the actual reasoning, particuarly in not so good news stories

But this is half the problem. There is no information, no interaction with members or fans. We're left to deal in rumour and conjecture.

Yep, and what minimal say members had in the past (3 year plus Magpies & Balmain FC) has now evaporated with WA running the show…slighly OT apologies

Agree - seems odd on the surface but more than happy to wait and see.
That said, I can understand the frustration some are expressing; whilst we've been struggling on the field for the last several years, the club trumpets these kids as the next big thing a lot of the time, so it's a tad annoying to see them leave for nothing (or stay and not fulfil their potential).
