A few stats from Saturday's game ....

Run Metres / Post Contact Metres
Lobb 167 m / 41m (5 tackle breaks)
Faataape 115m / 47m
Staines 115m / 30m
Feledy 101m / 25m (5 tackle breaks, 4 missed tackles)
Mason 98m / 31m (7 tackle breaks, 2nd highest behind Haze Dunster)

Best Magpies Forward - Porter 76m / 25m

NB. Only 2 forwards ran over 100m the whole game (Wiremu Greig & Tony Mataale for the Eels)

Tackles
Porter 34 (4 missed, 3 ineffective)
Johannssen 31 (97% tackle efficiency)
Aho 26
Mason 25
Lovodua 24

Bad - Tony Sukkar had 7 Missed Tackles & 4 Ineffective Tackles (worst in these stats for the game)

Good - Kit Laulilii played 32 mins (20+12), 74 run metres (31 post contact), 15 tackles (1 miss), very fast 2.78 sec play the ball speed (2nd fastest of the game behind Bryce Cartwright).

TBH moving forward unless something significantly shifts, the only players NRL-worthy in this team are Staines, Faataape (depth centre only), Latu Fainu, Mason, Kit Laulilii, Tim Johannssen, Tristan Hope (depth hooker only) & Porter (depth backrower if stocks are depleted).

Vaha Aho could be that slow burn type so interested to see how he progresses in performance through this season.

I didn’t see the game as I’m overseas, but those stats again demonstrate we are lacking forwards who can even make a positive impact at NSW Cuo level, let alone stepping up to NRL level.

would bringing back Bud Sullivan make you happy, parra had a scrum of talented players ,think we did ok
No.
The whole point of this team is to develop players for our NRL side. My point is there is basically no one in this squad who is even remotely close to being a first grader.
Our back row in the NRL is the worst in the comp. Yet we have no one in NSW cup pushing for promotion, the players we have are barely NSW cup Level.
There is no one in this team who you look at and go, he's a definite first grader, and really even in Flegg we don't have anyone that stands out.
No one who's super fast, no one that's a constant threat with the ball in hand.

We should be recruiting players with these skills, players with loads of physical or natural talent, and trying to mold then into first graders. We just play it safe with solid nuffies. We need to be ruthless.

Sukkar, Lobb, Craig, Faatape, Porter, Feledy did all be told they're free to leave immediately, pay out any who resist. Offer talented kids from other clubs development or NRL contracts instead.

Mitch Taotua is the best and most promising ball runner of all our back row prospects from Flegg to NSW Cup, but is currently a liability when defending.
If we can somehow fix his defence we would have a definite NRL back row prospect.

He's a better prospect than Broederlow but neither can defend. Got to be competent at both areas if your want to move to the grades.

The thing is it’s possible for young players to dramatically improve their defence, it’s near impossible for them to suddenly become a dangerous tackle busting ball runner if they simply do not have the size or speed, stamina and aggression to do so.

Despite a couple of Storm contracted inclusions, it’s still not a real strong Bears team.
If our players are serious they should win comfortably today.
There's about 10 players in their line-up who used to play for us. Says a lot about their team.
But then I disagree massively with Latu not playing 80 mins here. It's a very even match. Their pack is superior. Halves and back similar.

Which is why I so vehemently protest us constantly recruiting and selecting undersized work horse forwards and backs. You need a few workers, but a team of workers will get annihilated every week by superior sides.

Where is our pace, where are the barnstorming forwards? We should have at least a few of these types in every grade
