If I was pulling the strings and had to do stimulus, I would be investing massively in productive infrastructure (not endless new freeways). In particular I would be building energy storage projects. Within 2-3 years you could have 100 + 'big batteries' across the country - built in economically struggling regions if need be. These are much cheaper and years quicker than something like Snowy 2.0, and also easier to upgrade and improve as technology evolves. Gets people in work, improves grid reliability, brings down energy prices for the whole economy, good for the environment.

Wow!!! very impressive reading from you @TillLindemann.
It's decent honest dudes like you we need running the country as an **Independent** Pollie.

Thank you kind sir. I think I'd be a terrible politician though. I'm good at pontificating from the sidelines, I'd be a plodder of a pollie though! But I agree we need more independents.

One of the worst things that happened in this country was when all the good work Don Chipp did was destroyed by that woman who decided to go "all the way with John Howard".I refuse to even name her as she sold out all the principles that Chipp had brought to the political arena and made Australia accountable
Needless to say the party no longer exists and the philosophy of "keeping the bastards honest" no longer exists.Exhibit A Scammo

Meg Lees?

They still exist but they imploded in the early noughts and haven't been able to ever get back to where they were. They are the one party I identify closest to. Pretty sure Smeg worked for them or was a member for them too.

That is the one but i refused to use her name, what she did was unforgiveable and destroyed a party that was a credible alternative which was something the DLP never was let alone Hansons hate party

On a day when the floods are subsiding after a terrible week, with people starting to calculate their losses, please remember that there are so many people still long suffering from the fires and the lack of promised support from the announced $2 billion federal fund sham.

During this challenging week for so many, it has also been revealed not one cent of the budgeted $4 billion Emergency Response Fund that was also the subject of announcements and fanfare two years ago has been delivered.

As this forum's predominantly male demographic is the main target voting audience of this current national government, I can only hope that such things, along with events of the last month and a bit may have awoken some to the reality that is this government and particularly it's Liberal component and leader.

The Blue Mountains got $0 of that despite being torn apart by the fires and then the knock-on effect of COVID. Not surprising though since it's an ALP seat both state and federally.

It is curious how the media treated the attack on the Capitol in DC over the weekend, which left an officer dead. The attacker was linked to the conspiracy-mongering, anti-semitic, black nationalist Nation of Islam movement.

If it was a whitey in a maga cap, there would be much wailing, gnashing of teeth, comparisons with September 11, calls for politicians to disavow white nationalism, and sermons about our toxic politicians stoking hatred.

But as it was rather a dude with the wrong pigmentation and wrong politics, it was a 'nothing to see here, what's happening on married at first sight?' moment.

same as during the race riots recently when a person of color shot and killed a 5 year old white boy playing in his front yard....hardly heard anything about that....

it doesn't fit the agenda of the left to report on stuff like that.
on another note
interesting ABC had to apologise to Jacinta Price
Nothing to see here . ..

Must be that media that people choose to see, as I saw plenty of reporting on the incident. Important to note that the 46th president had flags to half mast almost immediately as well.

In local goings on, apart from the vaccination debacle, the way premature end of Jobkeeper for select sectors and regions is kicking in. With children included, a couple of hundred thousand or so are currently joining others to become part of the nearly 10% of our fellow Australians, including hundreds of thousands of children, that have just been cruelly plunged a further $50/week into the abyss of poverty from this month.

With the skewed incentives and general framework of the for profit Job Active system, many will never be able to climb out of it. I had hoped the pandemic would bring forward real change, but as a nation we missed this opportunity.

Further to the US, how great was it to see some real work to alleviate poverty amongst the 1.9 Trillion relief bill that was passed. Together with parts of the next bill proposals, there will be tangible growth and change amongst their communities and across the nation.

The relief bill is a debt millstone around the necks of Americans. More money than has ever been spent in the history of humanity. The bill itself states the 1.9 Trillion will be spent in 8 years but debt recovery (supposedly) will take 15. The debt is going to be paid back with massive tax increases as stated by Biden himself.

Biden knows this is a dog. He knows that it is going to boost inflation, devalue the dollar and make the US less competitive internationally. That is why last week he stated that he is going to pressure the G20 nations at the next G20 conference to try to force a ***GLOBAL*** minimum corporate tax rate to try to legislate for US competitiveness. It is actually disgusting. When he was elected I was concerned that he was just a front for an authoritarian leftist agenda but quieten my concerns that it wouldnt be the case. You cant get more authoritarian that trying to force a socialist New World Order on taxation.

Biden knows that massive increases in US corporate tax will accelerate the exodus of US Multinationals out of the US tax system and by trying to bully the global economy he is trying to stem the tide.

He is doing the same domestically. His proposed new tax changes mean that not all US citizens are taxed equally or fairly federally. The new tax changes make it such that State income taxes are a federal tax deduction. This has the effect that if you are a citizen of a high taxing state, you will pay less federal tax than citizens of lower taxing states. Which states have the highest state taxes? Democrat states. This is firmly targeting to try to stop the mass exodus of wealthy tax payers from out of California and NY.

About time the tax systems globally and as a whole start heading back in the right direction, both individually and collectively.

I cant get onboard with centralised global socialism. How does this fit for developing nations being pegged at high taxation rates due to US incompetence? Capitalism and markets have dragged billions out of poverty, centralised authority, imposed by first world countries will entrench global poverty.

A hell of a lot less than those that voted for his predecessor, as many of them can see real change already being delivered and more on the horizon.

Approval figures spell it out quite clearly.

Up to you, but whilst circumstances have changed in recent years, I still continue to be happy paying reasonable taxation, including things like the Medicare surcharge for years on end because I believe in the system.

Edit; Even though it was cheaper to have private health insurance.

I have no problem with taxation and I pay more than my share. Medicare is a reasonably good system and Im grateful we have our health care system (I am also glad the US have their health care system but that is an entirely different story).

Your post makes my point. You continue to be happy paying ***reasonable*** taxation. What about if the Australian economy is ticking along well but our corporate taxation rate increases by 20% mandated by global overlords because the US wanted to spend US $2T and as a result you, or someone you care about lose their jobs?

The US citizens arent suffering as a result of Biden, yet. Most would be glad for the "relief bill" because they all get a hand out but the pain will be in about 8 years (Joe will probably be dead).

I also dont think that the majority of US voters know exactly what they are getting with Biden, but I suspect that FG does.
