@MacDougall said:You're all old irrelevant stooges. The Australian Labia party is the future. Most left wing government in history. Greens with power. Australia is finally reflecting it's youthful, multicultural population rather than all you middle of the road, has-beens. Go sob into your liberal party flags.

@stryker said:Yossarian, this cant work and I would have said the same either way.
The best result today would have been 75 - 75, back to the polls.
Oakeshot carried on like a drama queen today. It was embarrassing.

what a crap day.

So things didn't go the way you wanted huh? What's that got to do with the death of democracy?

This was always going to be the result while Abbott was leader. He and he alone is the only reason the Coalition is not in power now and for the last few weeks.
We will be heading for a new poll sooner than later and the Coalition will likely reinstate Turnbull and they will win by a landslide

@Citizen Tiger said:No, democracy was well and truly in bloom in 75'. I do recall an election where the people couldn't get to the polls quick enough to relieve Labor of 30 seats and so leave them with 35 or so in the House of Reps. A great day for democracy I would have thought?
Albert Field? The same Albert Field that was legally appointed under the Constitution? The same Albert Field that was expelled by the Labor Party? The same Albert Field that self appointed 'great man' Gough Whitlam systematically slandered under Parliamentary privilege, but didn't have the guts to do so outside the house? The same Albert Field who's appointment Labor challenged in the High Court, at taxpayer's expense?
And surprise, surprise the Coalition came up with a seven seat advantage in the 1975 election. If you reckon 'democracy died' in 1975, that convenient view appeared to have been shared by a smallish minority at the time.

Er no Yoss, it appears that things did not go the way that 700,000 more Australians wanted, not to mention the majority of constituents in the seats of the aforesaid Independents. They won't need to wait very long though, the legislative process will become constipated soon enough. The Labor party has dozens of vested interests at the best of times, how's it going to govern as a 'coalition of the confused'?

@hammertime said:I'm just extremely angry that our democracy has been bought by the labor party with $10 BILLION dollars of taxpayers money after only 37% of the population voted for them…
How can you guys be comfortable with that?

49.99% 2PP and 72 seats.
Abbott offered $1b for Hobart Hospital and he would have offered more to the 3 rural indies.
