Potter safe for this year!

Following intense speculation regarding the future of Mick Potter as Head Coach of Wests Tigers, the Club's Board has met tonight and decided that contract negotiations will be put on hold until the side' 2014 campaign comes to an end.

The meeting was originally convened on the basis that Mick Potter requested direction on his future.

The Board and Management fully support the coaching staff and players and want to give them every chance to push towards a top eight finish this season.

Wests Tigers Chairman Mike Bailey said that the focus for the Club needs to be on the field.

"The team has fought hard to put us in a position to compete for a top eight finish in 2014," said Bailey. "Ongoing speculation about the Club's three coaches is unhelpful and destabilising at a time where we need unity. Members and sponsors have voiced their disappointment at how this has been played out in the open forum. This stops now."

Bailey went on to say that this decision was the best to allow Wests Tigers players to continue to focus on football.

"At no stage have the players approached the Board on matters relating to the coaching staff."

Head Coach Mick Potter confirmed that he shares the Board's sentiment.

"Ideally I would have like to have had this sorted months ago but am happy to put this to one side until our team's future is known."

The Club will make no further comment on this issue.

So basically….. the Wests Tigers have to make the eight or Potter won't be the coach next year..............

Isn't this EXACTLY what the situation was before this whole mess happened this weekend? I'm CERTAIN I heard reported through official news channels, if not last week then the week before, that Wests Tigers needed to make the eight or Potter was gone.

If the Wests Tigers make the finals and then drop Potter as coach for next season they'll look like idiots.

Reading that, i'd say he's as good as gone next yr sadly. Which wouldn't be as big of an injustice had they sacked hm tonight, but it would still be an idiotic move. As Gus said late in the game today, the expectations some of these clubs put on coaches is ridiculous. What will another coach that isn't named Bellamy, Hasler or Bennett get out of these players with all the injuries and Origin availabilities that Potter can't?

This is what I don't get, the board's expectations are clearly ludicrous given the injuries we've had. At the beginning of the year we were favourites for the spoon.

The top 8 ultimatum is complete bs. Bs considering that Sheens didn't make the 8 in his first 2 seasons either. Not to mention from 06-09 as well.

_"The Board and Management fully support the coaching staff and players and want to give them every chance to push towards a top eight finish this season"_

Which translates to Robbie Farah furious with the way this was played out and how his behind the scenes criticism of Potter have become public knowledge, has threatened to walk out if he was left exposed and had his career tarnished as being a coach killer.

The board realising the mess they have created defer the decision to seasons end, all the while hoping he wont make the eight and therefor they will have a little more public support behind their execution.

I vowed to never post again on this forum but that needs to be said.

Well i guess the equation is simple
If potter wants to keep his job safe he needs to deliver

There are many on this forum that want/wanted him given a 2nd chance.
This is the final straw for me, we fail to make the Top 8 in 2014 Potter can hear us saying Goodbye

Well done WTs board way to get your members and supporters behind the team…[This word has been automatically removed] Id hate to be in the trenches with any of those blokes.

I personally will not forget how this club has treated Potter
Shameful

Basically ruined his reputation as a coach...Potter likely wont be able to get out of the joint quick enough come september

But they have basically taken a perfectly winnable game out of the equation with this crap

Why did they need to move to board meeting

Nice of the board to influence the result

This club is run by crackheads , seriously

Been going on for year's , no stability and it has all to do with Balmain vs Wests Mentality from Board level

Methinks that the NRL have stepped in and advised our board of their decision and statement.

Its beyond words. The season was declining, we pull a rabbit out of the hat last week that breathes new life into our season which gave supporters a shot of adrenalin and would no doubt have made the players feel 10 feet tall and they pull this shit on the weekend of what was a very winnable game that would have had us back in the 8 with momentum.

A slow hand clap for all of these morons. Congratulations, if we miss the 8 we can look back on today as one of the main reasons we didn't. Well done and a big thank you you parasites.

Bit late now after virtually purposely destroying any chance we had of a victory today

Hope the stupid old FW's on the board are happy now

The NRL should investigate this and put the entire board on LWOP until they get answers

Put Willow ,Geo ,CB, Milky and Irvine on the board for the time being

Happy want to share the CEO role?

I was under the impression that in his Contract it stated that if we make the 8 this year his services gets retained next year .

Yeh I heard today there is something like that, he can activate a clause for another season should he make the finals

Potter should be sounding out Newcastle imo. I wouldn't want to stick around if I were him. I reckon he could probably take a few of the boys with him. Thompson and Seumanufagai for one remain unsigned.

in the trenches, i would be popping them each in the back of the head as they were waiting to rush the line… most likely mean there was an extra bullet for me as I jumped the line, but I couldnt risk the enemy not doing the job properly...
