Matai was actually offered to us by Manly before he became a regular first grade player.Sheens refused.
It would have been as a swap for some nuffie we had but Tim liked. It was a golden opportunity missed

Dont tell me it was Lawrence :astonished:

Probably Ayshford :unamused:

Lawrence was a nuffie in when he came into grade? Talk about memory slips.

He was a good winger but apart from that…i would have swapped Matai for him in a heartbeat as a center.

What do you do when a player you don't like joins the team you love?
I ask this because Reynolds to me is one step away from Matai, how would everyone feel if we signed Matai when he was playing? because that's how I felt when Reynolds was announced.
He's got a lot to prove next year.

I would have killed to have a player like him. He would have been this club's best ever center.

I understand what you're saying about Matai and why you'd want him but he was an absolute grub, his attitude on the field isn't something I'd want at this club.
I would have loved to have a player "like" him too but just not him.

You're one of the biggest complainers about this club, yet you don't want to get your hands dirty by bringing in players who could classify as grubs but are also ferocious competitors and are passionate. Something our players have lacked for years. The cleanskin approach has failed miserably.

Cleanskin approach? Tigers have the worst discipline on and off the field of almost any other team - they'd be up there with parra and manly

Same Chris Lawrence who played centre for Australia?

Surprising news…who was the nuffie?

I cant remember who the nuffie was but it was nobody of any importance.Tim did a lot of good things for our club but he got a lot of things wrong also

Yeah and didnt he do well? I remember Marshal targetting him, exploiting his poor defence, turning him inside out and winning the game. He was a Sheenius selection.

Failing to remeber how good Lawrence was pre-hip injury shows ignorance to an insane degree. He was on par with Tedesco.

He's got a lot to prove next year.

To whom?

Himself, Tigers fans, NSW selectors if he still thinks he's capable (I hope he does)

He'd want to. He doesn't have much competition.

Dunno; his defense was poor, made silly decisions and made a heap of unforced errors. I think he's a far better player since the change to back row; but obviously other people saw the glass half full as he pulled on the green and gold in the prime…

Probably the best player not to put on a Blues jersey.

Lawrence was on the verge of NSW selection before he got injured. Josh Morris has essentially had the rep career that was destined for Lawrence pre-injury

Agree. He was fast and a decent finisher but that's it. Terrible under the high ball, very poor defensively and a shocking set of hands. Good bloke but not my type of player at all.

Guess you never saw him hit a hole.
