Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

“Since I resigned from the Wests Tigers Board we have let Benji Marshall and Adam Blair out of their contracts, sacked the Australian coach in Tim Sheens, sacked Mick Potter and now exiting our local junior and club captain.

Really Benny? Benji? he had to go, he was overweight and lazy and by his own admission no less…........and you wanted him to stay??? and Blair? the guy was useless for us until Potter shifted him to prop and then he started to do something........and even then he wasn't worth what he was getting paid. And Sheens?? he was stale and stale for years, the fans wanted him gone by the end of '07\. The board was stupid to re-sign him at the end of 2011.

Potter yes, he was hard done by and maybe if he was allowed to pick his on S&C team, maybe we would have gone better................but then there's the rumours of players not liking him.........

None of those barely compare quite frankly.

Maybe if prior boards didn't sign players on way too much and back end contracts.............just maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.

A FORMER Federal Sports Minister and a Balmain legend have fired off angry letters to the Wests Tigers board over the dumping of star hooker Robbie Farah.

The Sunday Telegraph has obtained copies of both letters, sent by the Honourable John Brown, AO, and former Tigers and Test hooker Ben Elias.

Brown, now 83, has supported Western Suburbs for 75 years, Elias played 234 first grade matches for the Balmain Tigers.
\
\
Both are incensed at the club’s decision to push Farah out the door, as was exclusively revealed in Wednesday’s Daily Telegraph.

Brown, who was Federal Member for Parramatta between 1977 and 1990, claimed the Wests Tigers board had in recent times acted with “incompetence and stupidity.”

Farah will attempt to cast aside the drama and lead Wests Tigers in this afternoon’s game against New Zealand Warriors at Campbelltown Stadium.

Farah will attempt to cast aside the drama and lead Wests Tigers in this afternoon’s game against New Zealand Warriors at Campbelltown Stadium.

Former Minister for Tourism and Wests Tigers fan John Brown.
Brown wrote: “Moving people on is a foolish and very costly endeavour. To replace Robbie Farah with a less competent player could theoretically cost the club up to $2m. Farah is of course club captain, vice-captain of NSW, a member of the Australian national squad, a former premiership-winner and someone who has been an adornment to the Western Suburbs team for over 12 years. Very few club footballers in Australia could approach this record of devotion, commitment and skill.
\
\
“I hate to criticise the new coach (Jason Taylor) but his record, possibly winning the wooden spoon, pails into insignificance alongside that of the man he wishes to ‘move on’. I await with anxious anticipation for Wests management or the NRL to explain to all of we faithful supporters who await advice as to what is happening in our club.

“We now have a list of people starting with Tim Sheens and finishing with Adam Blair, now starring with the Broncos, to which we very likely add the name of one of the players whom I have most admired in my 75 years. This foundation club formed in 1908 deserves to have a better reputation than the one which recent boards have diminished greatly with their incompetence and stupidity. I await an explanation if one is possible for this incredible dilemma.”
\
\
Tigers legend Ben Elias didn’t hold back.
Brown’s powerful words were echoed by Elias, a Tigers life member.

In his letter to the board, Elias called those that dumped Farah as “faceless men.”

“The supporters are our lifeline and they deserve a full explanation on the reasoning for this decision,” he wrote.

“Since I resigned from the Wests Tigers Board we have let Benji Marshall and Adam Blair out of their contracts, sacked the Australian coach in Tim Sheens, sacked Mick Potter and now exiting our local junior and club captain. Is this the culture we want to breed to our young guns coming through?”

Brown’s letter was also sent to NRL chief executive Dave Smith.

Wests Tigers focus on footy again today against the Warriors. Victory could lift Wests Tigers from the bottom of the NRL competition table.

So true. The Truth hurts but truth is truth. Why doesn't Benny highlight how good a businessman he really is after his involvement with the West club fiasco tragedy?

Honestly I cannot see what the NRL can do to help Wests Tigers. The club will be expected to pay back any money provided to them by the NRL and this will throw the club even further into debt to the NRL. Maybe with the Under 20's competition become extinct next season the NRL could give Wests Tigers first choice of ex-Under 20's players currently without a club for 2016.

Well for a start the WESTS Tigers owe no debt to the NRL and are required to pay no money back zero….that Debt is owed by the Balmain DRLC....secondly Buzz needs to check his facts.....Wests Tigers is not an NRL Board it is made up of 3 Independent Directors 2 Wests and 2 Balmain(non-voting) until their Debt is repaid...

Benny Elias ran the leagues club into ruin.
Caused more damage to the club than anyone in the history of the club.
He should crawl back under his rock the grub and deserves no opinion.

Had the best time reading some of these fantasies a lot of laughs as the latest news has started to filter through,

Having trouble caring enough to say anything controversial, but I really want to! I'm feeling left out, not getting my fair share of the insults flying around.

Really none of us know exactly what has caused this, and none of us know how it will effect on field performances next year. The future is all I care about, and I'll keep my powder dry until we know how we play without him.

Sitting on the fence on this matter, is the wisest thing you could do OMT..

Brisbane captain Corey Parker has backed Wests Tigers over their decision to axe Robbie Farah, declaring ‘it’s a business’ and fans better get used to it.

Despite an outpouring of support for Farah – strengthened by his five-star performance in the win over the Warriors - Parker told Sky Sports Radio that clubs had a duty to stay financially stable.

“From a player you understand that at times that is all it is; a business,” Parker said.

“When they’re going through their budget and recruiting and thinking years ahead, like any good business has to do, if…Robbie is getting that 950 (thousand)…that’s a lot of money to be tied up with one guy.

“You have to (accept it’s a business), that’s the nature of the beast we’re in.”

While Parker acknowledges fans will be emotional about Farah’s departure, he says hard decisions have to be made.

“The fans pay their hard earned cash to come and watch us play, they feel somewhat connected,” he said.

“When they see something like that happen (sacking), they’re making judgements on emotional barriers as opposed to the whole business side of things.”

“The tough thing about what we see is you read all this stuff through the press, I think you can get the respect and it can be handled in house which is disappointing.”

Despite the raging debate over Farah's future, Parker said Farah had earned the right to stay and fight for his position.

“From Robbie’s point of view he’s obviously done an enormous amount for that club,” Parker said.

“It’s disappointing because he’s been there for such a long period of time and he’s given them so much great service that it has to end this way and if it does he’s still got the right to obviously stay there.

“But I think there’s a few more twists and turns in this story yet.”

Thanks Mama. Even Sunday didn't help. The "keep him" part of me takes that as evidence of how good we could be with him.

The "punt him" part takes the fact that this took 25 weeks and these circumstances as evidence that there is a whole lot wrong with his effort and that of the several others in the group.

I wouldn't dream of doing anything else Mama, I'm the perfect SNAG , but if I'm on call I'm allowed a leave pass.( doesn't happen often)
I only have to plead for leniency for a little while .
But God help me if I try to push my luck.

I don't really care about the politics behind WT's decision to shaft Farah and I certainly don't want to get caught up in all the rumour and innuendo that gets flung around on here and in the media, because it's a waste of time. I just want Farah to stay!

There is still a place for him in our pack, imo. Maybe not at hooker, but why not at lock as someone suggested, or even on the bench? We need to retain as many of our current forwards as possible because we don't have a lot of decent depth there. He is still our best defender and God knows this tackle-shy team cannot afford to lose another good defender! Just think how many more tries would be let in each week without his obligatory 40 plus tackles every game.

Robbie is a loyal club man and guys like that are a dying breed in this age where players are constantly looking around other clubs (even other codes) to sell themselves to the highest bidder. He deserves to see out his contract with the team that he loves and into which he has put his heart and soul for over a decade, and he certainly deserves to be treated a lot better than the way this club is treating him right now.

Me too Flip. I want Robbie to stay too.
Robbie showed loyalty and helped the club out in the past, now it's time the club did the same….

We smashed souths without Farah in the middle of the origin series. That's a REAL fact. Not one of your made up facts.

I think they were missing a few blokes as well
Anyway, according to MacDougall, Cherrington is an equal, if not better, player than Farah (obviously after a whole 9 games in first grade off the bench) so we will be sure to be missing him during SOO next year.

I didn't say he was better, I said we looked pretty much the same. Farah obviously has a lot of skills and ability but we didn't look any worse with Cherrington on the park. I think that's a more than fair comment.

It's cool Mac - you are entitled to your opinion.

Here's a funny quote from Taylor when he tried to get out of his contract at Western Suburbs with Warren Ryan as coach - deja vu….
"The press came up with some interesting reasons why I wanted to leave, but I prefer to keep most of them to myself because they have been pretty well resolved. **One reason, however, was I thought our style of play was too restrictive, too structured and by the end of the year, very predictable. I wasn't the only player to think that way.**
:unamused:

 too funny. Thanks for posting that Ck…

Taylor said at the presser "we will talk about other issues through the week" "it's all about KG and Patty today" or something to that effect.
What's the game plan against Saints? Let The team play creatively and let KG do the goal kicking once we get to 50?

My mail is Farah has been the model professional at the club this year and captained the side to the best of his ability in a leadership. Training really hard and handing the keys over to the young as under Taylor's great game plans. The only real fall out was Taylor childishly threatening to put him in reserve grade and in the part time squad if he remained at the club.

Look he appears well past his best, and I think it would be good for him to find another club and get away from our mess. Meanwhile Taylor has to win over the rest of the squad for next year, something he is clearly struggling with. I even saw Bellemy taking a shot at him in the media, does anyone really respect JT?

You gain Respect by Giving it….

Sounds like to me people want to send us down the Parra trail....playing group escapes accountability...just get a new coach same old same old...

Geo you forgot the Walker brothers!

SMH said on Sunday, quoted in this thread somewhere, that Farah is a very professional footballer but he doesn't react well to adversity. Differentiating between how Farah applies himself to preparing for football versus how his personality and leadership impacts on the team.

Then the decision is whether he should still be captain? If Taylor had a brain he would strip the captaincy Farah would be that offended he would likely leave. Instead this dim witted organisation has just cornered themselves into a situation they either fire the coach or pay a player $1m to play at another club.
