LIVE GAME Round 25 vs. Sea Eagles

Live Game Discussion
I think spoon bowl is pretty much a grand final for us.

I was critical of Benji overlooking committed youngsters in previous rounds in favour of our high brow “traitors” but here we are.

It’s not going to happen, but I would forgive Benji if we rewarded some of the kids by starting positions in this critical match ahead of the mercenaries.

I appreciate its counter intuitive, it’s risky but if we can manage to win, it would be an enormous boost to the club going into the preseason, build more trust between Benji and retained players.

Kind of walking the walk for Benji who has been praising the kids efforts all year.

Also reflecting my own regrets, annoyance and frustration that Ute and Ice are getting off the bus. No tears from me, but I expected more from them.

Just a thought.

I think at this point depending on who we sign he absolutely should be taking jersey 10.

two middle forwards and a backrower. we’re so close
Our front row is really worrying me.

Our backs seem to be sorting themselves and/or improving... Low bar but getting a tiny bit better.

The forward pack is really getting a downgrade next season and we need some strong front rowers to make the most out of Luai.

We still have spots available and plenty of cash but Richo has said we are targeting players more than buy the first cab off the rank.

Then of course, he is not interested in broadcasting approaches for the fear of being beaten to the post.

Having some behind the scenes contacts with Adam Elliot, working with one his relatives, this is exactly what happened to us on that occasion.

Adam was well advanced in our induction, I think he’d even done the medical but Ricky made some phone calls, was able to get through and then the gift of the gab. We were very close.

Recruitment is very complex, cut throat and agility is critical.

So I’m not too concerned until the roster is settled.

SGI is a good example of no release punishment for Ben Hunt but they threw Lomax over the cliff without too much ado. Inconsistent when you think about it.

Obviously a lot more going on there than is publicised.

I think there would be a number of unhappy players wanting out of their clubs and we sit like vultures or making indirect approaches if they are on our list.

Question: does anyone know if there has been a game before where 3 Brothers have played 3 players before ?
No, I don’t think so.

Makes the win more amazing given the footy quality of the turbii.

I’ve given it some thought @Tucker and concluded that the main reason Seibs brought on the biff was because he felt his side was somehow under threat from a more regulation approach.

As you know, I’ve rated him for awhile now and we know Brisbane made promises to him that they didn’t deliver on.

I suspect he will take your advice and go back to footy, especially with Tom on the go.

Yes, I know, but thankfully it wasn’t enough!

it was a strange old game in many respects.

Starting to see some of the youngsters acclimatise to the big show, which was a good sign. Back up needed.

There was a comparison tonight on the abc about us v eels prospects next year.

Still not enough “green shoots” seen from us this year it was argued, but as the dust settles, I couldn’t quite agree. This is mainly because of the youth and inexperience of the side. It’s been a fair finish to the year so far. Winning games tends to change things.

We shouldn’t have beaten that Manly side, they weren’t on their game, but we still had to fight. I liked our resilience.

Seibs was generous in his praise of us. That was pretty professional and positive. He’s got some good thoughts in him.
Let's be fair to them. They beat a stacked Manly team with a bunch of nobodies and youngsters.

Bula, Doueihi out. Porter out. I'm sure others too. 16 nil down. Sezer injured mid match. Lost Alaimalo forcing a re-shuffle in the backline. Dubious call around Hopoate pass inside for the try that started the comeback.

It wasn't an easy task...

yes the sin bins probably got us over the line, but we've had our fair share this year that have cost us dearly.

Overall we beat a really good team at full strength when they had everything to play for. Next season might be looking up.

What makes it even more unusual is that the 3 Fainu brothers from Wests Tigers were also previously at Manly, although some may argue it was Blacktown. 🤣

Yeah there are positives.
We played with an overlap for 26 minutes of the 40 in the second half and scored accordingly…26-10.
I doubt we win that game without the bins but you play the cards dealt and the boys did that.

2nd match in a row
No sendoffs ,No sin bins , No on reports , No charges
A MRC clean sheet and guess what no head high tackles
Cant say the same for Roosters ,Manly ,Sharks and Dogs
Weve found discipline ! Well done Benji
Refs have certainly given us a fair go since the Olam howler.

Amazing what happened to Olam - both the send off and suspension - while similar or worse head highs have either just earned a report and short suspension. The judiciary can't even argue about loadings, since JWH only received 3 weeks.

Not sure if it's because he's a Tiger or from PNG.

The media storm in the week afterwards was a black eye on the game. Media don’t often call out the favouritism so when it does happen, they react in a knee jerk way rather than addressing the underlying issue.
