Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

dont forget dugan is still on the bulldogs radar as well. the salary cap is a joke and every team should be made to publish their salary cap or even list players as a,b,c,d and the amounts being paid at very least.
just remeber the dogs have history in cheating the cap

They seem to have a pack that is worth over 5 million and can still seem to get Foran on their books. I thought you couldn't buy players if that was going to take you over the cap. I smell a rat. The best thing for all the clubs to do is not offer any of their players anything and see what the Bulldogs do then. Maybe then, some of their so called signings cant be registered.

Matthew Johns analyses Kieran Foran’s arrival at Canterbury Bulldogs

KIERAN Foran is a done deal at the Bulldogs, with the star half announcing his Warriors exit and his manager Sam Ayoub confirming to The Daily Telegraph that Canterbury have their man.

It’s another massive signing in a period full of sensational moves that will give the 2018 season a very different look.

Equal for hype with the James Tedesco switch to the Roosters, Foran’s move could in fact be the one that defines the premiership battle next year, with Matthew Johns claiming it instantly propelled the Bulldogs back into premiership contention.

The big money involved in Foran’s acquisition is certain to force Canterbury to move some freight, with that process started by Josh Reynolds’ decision to take up a lucrative offer with the Wests Tigers.

There’s several other big names who could yet follow Reynolds out of Belmore and Johns identified two Bulldogs stars whose career paths are about to change.

Speaking on Triple M’s The Grill Team on Wednesday morning, Johns said Foran would make a huge difference to young half Moses Mbye’s game and would likely force skipper James Graham out of the club.

“The thing about it is, it’s one thing to let players go but someone’s got to take those players off their hands,” Johns said.

“Next year James Graham’s on about $950,000 I believe, so they’ve got to free that up.

“It’s one thing to say to a club, ‘yeah we’re going to let James Graham go’ but I reckon at the moment there’s only one or two clubs — one of which is Newcastle, which I’ve said, who would say, OK we’re going to pay you that, in fact rather than pay you $950,000 we’re going to pay you $1.15m.

Ben Ikin, Nathan Ryan and Ben Glover are joined by Kieran Foran’s manager Sam Ayoub to discuss his move and the fallout for the Bulldogs and Warriors.

“So the ball’s in Newcastle’s court. (The Bulldogs) have gotta offload some money, for me it’s the obvious one, James Graham to Newcastle.”

Another star forward who could be on the outer is Sam Kasiano, with foxsports.com.au reporting in Nathan Ryan’s Market Watch column that the Storm were interested in luring the man they call ‘Dogzilla’ to Melbourne as a replacement for Cowboys-bound Jordan McLean.

Both Graham and Kasiano are under contract with the Bulldogs next season but the arrival of Aaron Woods is likely to shake a big name forward out and Canterbury are in a position where they would listen to offers from rival clubs.

The loss of Graham, Kasiano or both would be a blow that Foran’s arrival would soften if he can lift the players around him and Johns said the 23-year-old Mbye stood to benefit most.

On a big deal that will keep him at Belmore until the end of the 2020 season, Mbye is seen as the Bulldogs’ future but he has struggled to take his game to the next level with the added responsibility that has fallen his way since the departure of Trent Hodkinsoin at the end of the 2015 season.

Johns said part of Mbye’s struggles can be put down to his role, which has been overcomplicated by the lack of a game manager in Canterbury’s spine.

“Moses has come up a little bit short because they need him in 2016 to be more than the player that he is,” Johns explained.

“Moses Mbye’s style, he reminds me of a rabbit looking for a hole in the fence, he’s a ducker and he’s a darter. They need a person who’s going to steer the side around the park and he’s never going to be that kind of player.

“When Kieran Foran goes there, suddenly he runs the whole side and he allows Moses to be that exciting, free runner of the football. Don’t worry about steering the side around the park, don’t worry about last tackle options, (Foran will) look after that.

“So, all of a sudden the pieces of the puzzle sit where they should be.

“That’s the reason — they’ve got a great winning culture at the Bulldogs — Kieran will make an enormous difference and they’ll be a top four side at least next year.”

If all clubs stuck together in not taking any further player's of them they will probably be playing for no points next year

The Nrl has said that they won't register contracts for clubs over the salary cap unless they have a verbal agreement that contracted players at that club have agreed to move on. Based on reports, bulldogs could lose 2 to 3 forwards and 1 l
Or 2 backs to fit foran and woods in. Sounds like graham, eastwood and kasianao could be off. Gee woodsy might have to carry another forward pack lol, but atleast he can do it with tweedle dee.

"Would definitely make a play for Kasiano."

Why is everyone so hot on Kasiano?

He is a great wrecker, but not a great worker. Good impact hammer to break the line but not a solid. We can use him but we need a solid worker to replace Woods and give Ben/ET a hand.

Personally were recruiting from the wrong team. Eastwood, Graham, etc are great in their day. Graham is still good for another 2 years, but I am talking $500,000 or less of the cap value. Lets not be the Dogs retirement home. The Dogs have a cap problem because they pinched Woods, we should NOT be their solution unless we get who we want.

Who are Easts loosing and how to we get them here?

I hope that Reynolds is not the sort of character who would try to get players to move from the club that he's playing for just as I would hope that our three wouldn't do such a thing. I can imagine the uproar on this forum if that happened and rightly so.

When players have already been given the nudge by their club, it's not really poaching.

Just to add. Would gladly recruit a Josh Jackson or David Klemmer but I know that is not happening (also suspect that they could be on a low cap value).

All I know is that with Ivan Cleary and this board we have seen a change from keeping the big 4 to a Panthers style getting good players for good money value. I like this over show ponies but the WT is no airport, if someone earns their keep, plays well they should be allowed to stay where possible.

Klemmer probably 50% of the reason Woods heading there so he'd $1000's to leave.

But agree with you re: the bus. Will be a rags to riches fairy tale if we can make the 8 next year (or this year, not hopefully) based on the cherry picking we've done this year. Problem will be the team bonding/building and getting to know each others game which has be dubiously not wanting to put any cash on a positional finish.

Anyone would like these older experienced front rowers in there team if the Bulldogs are going to partially pay their wages. But I wouldn't go out offering big money if we get Parker. Let the Bulldogs feel the burn of being over the cap first and see what Moneyball Cleary can do to bolster our squad.

i think Newcastle might end up benefiting more form this

Whilst we can hold off filling some roles we cant afford players to got off the market.
I think we will be first to blink allowing knights to pick up the scraps

I would love to have Graham here for 2 seasons. And I'd pay up to $700K for him too. Just the leader the team needs - big time!

All this talk about Reynolds and Matulino coming here BUT no one seem to mention Mcqueen signing

Glad you are not running Recruitment. Too much mileage has played 400+ games including super league and has been a liability running the ball.
