Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So the Storm would take a -700k cap hit for two average players, in exchange for a current origin star? Lol, right.

If they valued JAC at 350k then both Johnston and Douehi would be below that in their cap rankings/budget

I don't consider Doueihi/Johnston to be average players at all. Johnston is a very good winger and Doueihi showed enough last season (after coming back from an ACL) to suggest he could be a top line player. Both young and in the right system could be excellent signings.

Douehi

You’ve got to be kidding me?

Douehi Is Not worth 1/2 million.

Why not?

He’s a utility .... Not a fullback .....
He is currently on a heavily back-ended contract deal with Souths.
Doueihi made his debut for South Sydney in Round 2 of the 2018 NRL season against Penrith. Doueihi made 15 appearances for Souths before suffering a season ending ACL injury. He made he return for South Sydney in Round 12 of the 2019 NRL season.
That’s short career summary hardly reads as an endorsement to pay a player 1/2 mill which Souths would not normally pay him if his contract was not back ended.

Nice summary but did you actually watch him play? Until they signed Mitchell he was going to be fullback this year. He was awesome last year. I suggest you go back and watch some of his games.

Yes I watch a lot of games and agree he has potential but at this stage of his career I would not pay 1/2 mil for him. Just me ..... appreciate your interest.

Agree mate

I also agree and I caution how much energy towards Doueihi is actually just from missing out on Latrell. I.e. rebound anxiety.

To be fair the article on Zero tackle doesen't even say they think its happening just that they have an idea that would make sense - so its about as useful as any of us deciding a player should go somewhere. Also why would Duoehi who wants to play fullback or five eight go to Storm who have Munster and Papenhuyzen

Just a rumour to scare tigers into paying top dollar for Duoehi and AJ
Probably started by Bennett himself
We should only offer what we think they are worth and not what another club wants us to pay

We have to pay a premium to sign anyone unfortunately. That's just life.

Ain’t that the truth......People are always quoting Pascoe and saying he will not pay overs. Sadly you have to pay what the market demands and to get players to Concord the market demands overs. It’s just a fact of life

Latest story (rumour) I just saw on Zerotackle is Johnston and Douehi to Storm for Addo-Carr.

If this is true, we might as well pack and go to Perth. Can’t get elite, can’t get average, can’t get youth (outside our own nursery). Becoming embarrassing if this happens

I don't agree with your last point. I think Doueihi is a great pickup irrespective of the LM circus.

I for one applaud Pascoe for not wanting to pay the full price for Doueihi and approaching this carefully unlike when in the Ivan era when we threw big money at the first available players such as Packer, Reynolds and Mbye

Being patient and waiting for the right player will only benefit us for the long term and not put us in the same position in a few years

You're right Teddy, patience really is a virtue. We can afford for fans like me to be impatient and run our mouths off, but if Pascoe Madge et al are patient, then that is definitely a plus compared to past managements.

Another nothing article that everyone is hanging on to for dear life.

I think we should try hard to get AD & AJ to improve backline. If we have to pay overs so be it. Once we can improve and get into the finals hopefully we can turn perceptions around and not be paying overs and disrespected by both clubs, player managers and players.

I find it incredible we have been pushing the final 8 last few years and coming 9th at seasons end, yet the troika of clubs, managers and players think less of us than Titans and the others regualrly below us.

Do you really think that AJ and Doueihi will really take this squad deep into the finals or even in the finals in general?

Well probably deeper than 9th

Respect your opinion but i'm completely on the other end of the spectrum. All three of those players you mentioned are on contracts around 50% higher than what Doueihi is on. Furthermore he's young so there is plenty of upside to him whereas there was only downside on those guys (Mbye excluded as he's young but just overpriced).

Lastly, everyone can see we have trouble attracting players for reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam on this forums. The only way that will change is with an improvement in on field performance. Are we are stronger team with AD playing 1? No doubt about it. Souths were far stronger when they gave him the 1 jersey.

So we can either sign a good young player and see how much he can help us this year, or we can play the Mr Thrifty role and hope someone wants to come and play for us during the season or in 21. And BTW the disputed sum is $100k, 1% of the cap.

That’s roughly 800-900k of our cap on those two players, do you really think they would bring that much value to our team?

WAY more of a chance to get to the finals with them than without them. Not even close.

Yes, they will improve what we currently have.

Any signing will improve what we currently have, we have to maximise the opportunity of this cap space not quickly jump at two players who can’t even make a starting team at one team and will take about 50-75% of the space we have available also

That’s all well and good, but who is that right player teddy? Douehi is an up and coming talent, Meaney also. While we’re waiting around for that right player who may never actually come, other teams continue to build and leave us in their wake.

Understand where you’re coming from, however do we really wanna continue paying on potential or should we look to buy polished players who have proven they can perform consistently week in week out

Doueihi showed some promise for a few weeks, so now we offer him 500k?

Would prefer to wait for a specialist fullback to become available, we need to be patient in terms of spending this money just like the bulldogs seem to be doing

Also, you’re acting like there’s no downside when there really is it’s not like they’re coming on a 1 year deal, they will wanna come for about 3 years and we’re stuck with them if they don’t perform
