If our star signing McQueen is a no show for us, we should have a crack at Ben Murdoch-Masila and bring him back to the Tigers. I think he's played under Cleary at Penrith ? He had an outstanding season in the UK Super League, and was named in the Super League Dream Team.

Pass

Pass as well

One of the biggest duds to pull on our jersey.

Didn't we let go of Fifita because of his attitude as we thought BBM was an adequate replacement?

One of our clubs worst ever decisions

Lol no thanks. Id take an injured McQueen over BMM.

Rupert Murdoch would be a better prop than Ben.

BMM - no thanks.

I remember a game at LO against the rorters and he was over the line to score and Minnie (for God sake) took the ball off him before he even looked like putting the ball down.

I think we'd be better off with "The Fridge"

BMM..on his day he was unbelievable, but they were very few and far in-between. Hands were are real problem, not many balls the counted stuck

In regard to the rebuild, that was this year. New coach brought on who got to pick from what was available on the current roster and got to be active in the player market for next year with virtually a full salary cap available. New recruits come in on November 1st and will have a full off season with the existing crop.

The rebuild finishes the minute the players take the field for the first trial IMO.

On another note, a Saints whom is apparently in the know has noted on LU that Joel Thompson will be released from them next week. Might be a handy acquisition, wonder if we're in the running since we're light in the second row department.

Clearly had more than half the cap to get who he wanted for his first full season and has had the majority of a season to start molding the players that are already here. If they don't perform, then other than himself there are very few places or people to point blame at.

I don't really agree.

Cleary had half the cap mostly because some huge names decided to leave; you can't just replace a Tedesco because the money is theoretically available. You obviously need the cattle to be in the market. Cleary was parachuted into recruitment discussions mid-season, after the very swift culling of the previous coach, didn't know the players personally, amid all the "Big 4" nonsense that was happening at the time. Also the fact that Moses literally left, so one of your primary players is taken out of all plans. They did pretty well to get Tui in rather than run out JLJ for the rest of the season.

There's only so much you can do with one iteration of a recruitment drive. It's like saying if you need a bigger house, it's your fault if you don't get the house you want in the first 6 months. Just because you have a need doesn't mean the market can supply to you at the time convenient to you.

In terms of molding the existing players, yes he's had 19 rounds to try that. But again there is a limit to what can be done between games mid-week, without a pre-season and when the side spends so much of its time on recovery. I think everyone could see the small but effective changes that Cleary made over the course of the season, but he also said himself several times in commentary, you can't just overhaul a side's system in the course of a week - it takes time to recondition the players to the style you want.

So I think 2017 was some platform for Cleary to start turning the club's fortunes around, and I think we saw it with the way the club finished the season plus the emergence of new players, but 2018 is very much still the rebuild process. Cleary will obviously be accountable for performances in 2018, but he will get more leeway than he will in 2019 and 2020.

I have found over countless years of following the game, the biggest trap you can fall into is taking any notice of what happened the year before. Many a year I have gone into a new season with high hopes based on the previous year only to see them nose dive and the opposite can be said as in 2005 I thought we were bottom of the eight at very best.

In Cleary I think we at least have a coach, do we have the roster thats the big question

Totally agreed.

Just, he will make mistakes. So far he hasn't made any, I expect one or two new signings not to work out. Chris McQueen is one of those because of his injuries (otherwise he is IMHO a brillant signing, we need an older hand in the forwards and even injured he may be good to have around to point people in the right direction).

If he makes too many, well we go on the coaching roundabout again. But I think he will only make a very few small ones, that's natural. Bellamy makes mistakes! The trick is the batting rate and team culture, we stick together while demanding high but realistic standards.

Sharks losing a few juniors with Jaemon Salmon to Eels for 3 years. Also their young centre Mata'tuia to Titans. Lots of movement of Keebra Park Aust Schoolboys to Brisbane and Roosters, none to us. Eels young half Troy Dargan to Broncos.

There will be one more signing for 2018 this year but it won't be a big name & it will be a utility type player to cover fullback/halves role. Final spot will not be filled UNLESS a refusable opportunity arises like Moylan, ect, comes up. If Cronk does play on it might create a chance for us to pick-up a top end player from the domino effect that will cause. But don't expect anything major anytime soon.

Thanks Pom. I will indeed keep my fingers crossed that some dominos fall - big dominos!

So obviously the club is happy with our front and back row stocks for '18?

RTS would be a six/six domino for mine, just currently stuck in Kearney's bog.

Arrgghh… I have to jump in again. Can't handle it.

I can't believe we are even thinking even remotely this way for next year.

No matter how the team goes next year, if we boot Cleary or do anything but support him, what quality coach in their right mind is going to want to come here?? Not only that, but what players are going to want to come here??

In 2 years, we've lost Farah, Tedesco, Moses, Woods & Halatau. 2 Captains, a VC and 3/4rs of our spine!

It boggles my mind that everyone would even entertain the prospect of drama again. The thing that has driven us mad the past 5 years and resulted in us ending down the bottom of the table every god damn season!

Set goals, create motivation, start to build to where we need to be. But don't set damn ultimatums because Cleary would have to go Barrett on a player to want go down that path or instability again so soon!

I think people on here just love drama. Must love the telegraph.... Just sit still for at least 1 year and give all the support you can muster!
