What baggage does Leilua have?

Issue involving his then girlfriend at the time. I can't recall whether it was when he was at the Roosters or Dragons. He has moved on but why help the Raiders with their cap problems unless it is Whitehead, Cotric or Rapana?

Here is a link here, it was when he was at the Roosters. The SMH also have an article but it is behind the pay firewall.

I'm aware of the story. That was 5 years ago, and he's played at 2 different clubs since without incident. Its clutching at straws to say he carries baggage.

Roosters, Knights and now possibly at Canberra he has failed to see out his contract. Before rushing in to say yes, would you want to know why?

He hasn't failed to see out his contract at Canberra. He's being pushed out…

Todd Payten didn't see out contracts with the Raiders and Roosters before he come to us. There are probably others players who have been in the same boat too over the years. You are clutching Paws.

Different reasons though wasn't it?

Payten pushed out by cap issues and paid by previous clubst his new one?

BJ let go for other reasons such as falling out with coach, team mates?

Sounds similar to another player the forum has pushed for the club to sign recently.

Sorry, can't think who you might be suggesting?

Just threw all the names into a hat on paper and happened to pull his out.

Moley reporting Canberra in Cap strife for 2018 needing to shed a player or two..

Kurt Baptiste ..pass…. but the other is Joey Leilua..Yes...

Leilua no thanks. Our existing centre options are fine plus come with no baggage.

Our current centre option are a class rookie who didn't make it through a a full season and a makeshift one with a few others that can play centre at a pinch..

Leilua is a specialist Centre that is better than all our current options…but OK ...pass

We've also signed Milne.

A reserve grader who hasn't looked that good when given a chance in first grade.

Thanks, it just didn't click , so much going on in footy lately i had forgotten about Moylan

Here's the thing - BJ is a Class-A peanut, I mean a real dingbat and a borderline liability at times. BUT he would easily be the best centre in our team if we signed him.

So coach's call - do you risk it on a peanut? Honestly he didn't just fail to see out contracts with his former clubs, he had issues with all of them getting along with his peers and coaches. The latest issue with Blake Austin at Raiders shows he's not exactly a team player, hence why for such a huge talent he's moved on quite frequently.

But still miles better than anyone we've got.

I did hear Phil Gould speak about him having known him at the Roosters. He described him as a good young player who is a smart buy for the WTs. Also, David Warwick came from the Dragons so I guess he may be well placed to determine his talent (or not).

Balanced post. With everything we are trying to build at our club, having him among out young players?

Eastern Suburbs rich guys are generally CUB's. See James Packer and David Gyngell going the knuckle in the street.

isn't Packer a Souff's supporter..I'm sure he bought Souff's with Rusty..

Probably, he lives in Bondi though, and he's a cashed up bogan.

Don't forget his old man owned the Roosters as well back in the 80s

Maybe still has a soft spot for them

If we are talking about Canberra players, I would take Cotric, Rapana, Croker, Bateman, Paulo, Tapine, Soliola.

These players (except Croker and Bateman) are strike players who will create something out of nothing and could change the dynamic of a game with a tackle break, offload, forced error etc.

Cotric, Tapine and Rapana would be the only ones that I'd consider, and in that orderThe Raiders won't let any of these 3 go.

Rapana would be a top buy for the Tigers!!

I assume Cleary sees some potential in Milne as well given he signed him, so our current options are Suli, Milne, Marsters, Naiqama and Fonua. Leilua is a better centre than all of them at this point but he has a history of severely fluctuating form. You would want to have a plan to turn that around and have some confidence that you could turn him into a consistent performer if you were going to sign him. I'm not saying I think we shouldn't be interested but he's not a no-brainer target - there's risk there.

Re BJ - he would be our best centre by the length of the Randwick straight but he has issues.

As he has shown, I will be happy to leave it to Ivan. He’s shown he’s a great man manager and if wants to give him a go far be it from me to complain…..
