He makes a lot of sense on that interview and good to hear he dropped a few names in the current squad who he's obviously keen to keep long term and build the squad around.
The focus is clearly on developing youth so I'm very interested to hear who may pick up development contracts for next season and whether we can keep the bulk of this years' Jersey Flegg squad together.
We have had 3 competent coaches in our history. Tim Sheens, Ivan Cleary and Madge. One ran his race the other ran away. The club has to stick to their plan and not buckle under media pressure.
They know what they offered players like Latrell, Fox, Finucane, TPJ. Evidently they know we have to pay overs to get top tier talent. Wisely they will build and attract top tier players when we are a better footy team.
I wouldn't put cleary in there. I think he manages teams well but his recruitment is dreadful. Even at Penrith choosing Edwards and getting rid of Laurie shows a lack of foresight. I could be wrong, we'll see what he does with his brilliant squad, but he buried us for years with what he did to us. Both Sheens and Madge have had a clear style of play and an approach to recruitment. Might not be perfect but there's intention and clarity there. Cleary was a mess.
Don’t forget getting rid of burton who looks to be a superstar in the making .
I will hold off calling him a superstar until he plays at the dogs and doesn't have all the class around him. When all the SOO players were out and the team replied on him he was not playing near as good. Not saying he is not a good player but it's a diffent ballgame when you play in average squads compared to top line ones.
Be very surprised if Burton doesn’t make a massive difference at the dogs next year. He strikes me as a player ver similar to Munster. I rate him not far behind Cleary in the talent department
