Woods doesn't add anything to our pack. He's slow and a bad lateral defender - we've got Twal who is good at everything Woods is good at but better, same as Seyfarth and Tamou is another Woods type forward

We need another Mikaele type forward who runs hard and offloads, not another Woods. A very sideways move

I wouldn't use Mikaele as my prototype but yes was are short at least one forward that has impact in attack and defence, not another metre eater that is a workhorse in defense, but provides little impact.

Not Mikaele as a whole but when Mikaele feels like Charging onto the footy and producing good offloads, that's what we need more of ?

No I agree with you fully mate. The top sides have 2 or 3 really damaging runners of the football, we have about 0.5 in Mikaele. That .5 is the most important thing we need to add to this team.

Guys like Twal and Seyfarth are good but they aren't big physical game breaking forwards. Like you said the top teams all have a guy or two like that. We need a JWH type prop

Yeah, our biggest weakness in our forward pack. We have plenty that push out decent mtrs, but not enough that win the collision.

Does Makatoa fit the bill? I know his relatively late to debut but has hit the ground running on a train and trial deal. A couple of year deal as him partnering Steff or relieving Mikalee?

Particularly defensively, with nobody that has the opposition really looking out for in our line. Maybe Blore a little and Garner can ice it occasionally if he gets time, but nobody hitting hard and often near the middle.

I am hoping Blore take a big step forward in the respect next year, both with and without the ball.

I was thinking the other day that the perfect 14 would be a forward that can also play hooker.

Cameron Mciness would've been perfect, starting 13 and moving to 9 to allow the hooker a break... however he is now signed, sealed and delivered to the sharks.

Examples are players like Radley, Cheese or going back to guys like Elijah Taylor and Lewis Brown.

Lock, second rower types than can and have also played hooker also.

Long story, short...
If we can move on from forum favourites... Nofo, Brooks, Mbye(Gone) and now Liddle, with news of him being a detractor from the coache.. I'd be all in on moving Liddle on and backing young Jake Simpkin... then bringing in, the forward/hooker type for that 14 role.

The guy I'm thinking of is Ray Stone.
Seeing him play 9 for Parra right now in the semi final and he's definitely doing a job.
Great defense and hits hard.
Has a crisp pass.
And he's off contract I believe.

Thoughts?

Sorry @Russell

The club has discussed using Hastings in that role.

Well that is beyond idiotic

Yeah, that's not even close to what I meant.
He's a spine player.

But not what I'm talking about.

Yeah more the opposite.
A back line player, essentially....

A 14 that can play hooker that is also an impact forward would he perfect and we can eliminate the 2 specialist hookers in the 17 stuff.

Dreams are free.

A few nervous breakdowns will be had if Hastings isn’t 7 methinks.

Always thought of him as filling a ball playing lock role if not the 14 to take over from Mbye, though will be surprised if he isn't playing in the halves to open the season due to Doueihi's ACL. With Adam not meeting the expectations of many when playing there, I would now be unsurprised if Jackson remains there with Doueihi at centre.

Agreed, especially with Adam missing the preseason.

It is the thing I'm most disappointed about with his injury, even more so than the missed games. I think he can make a good 5/8th but needs to work on straightening the attack and creating room for his outside men. He did this against the Broncos and tore them apart. It was also Laurie's best game due to the space AD made for him. He needed the off season to work on this aspect of his game so it became more consistent. Part of your role as a 5/8th is making the players around you better.

This ideal of him playing lock is fantasy...
He can't tackle and is slower than Twal.
