Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

From Newcastle Herald....

Despite denials that Luke Brooks wants out and is keen for a release from his club, the Knights continue to monitor the situation between the halfback and the Wests Tigers with a view to potentially signing him if he was to become available in the New Year

That article serves the purpose to let Brooks' know the Knights still want him. Also its also tantamount to an admission the Knights are in trouble for halves.

With the signing of Jimmy Roberts to the top 30, leaving one slot available, have the Tigers given up on season 2022? I get the feeling it will be used to blood juniors and maybe solidify a few combinations the coaches want to see in years to come. We will likely be dealt some pastings and at this rate, I can't see Madge surviving. So for me its another year of low expectation but hopefully the likes of Tannous, Ma'anaima and Ogden get a go among others. As long as we resign Stef, I have much higher hopes for 2023 and beyond.

Also could be seen as trying to influence him to leave the club

Bizarre article. States Knights have a 650k 'warchest', to sign 2 players. So at max 550k for Brooks. With Knights have no suitable players to swap.

They can like all they want, they currently have nothing to offer us

newcastle are extremely desperate for that 7
loan them Madden if they want a 7 he can get some experience

Well I can see the team improving with the new signings and the players who remained are another year older, so while I don’t think we will win the comp, I think we will be competitive, it was only a few crap games last season that didn’t get us into the 8.

Madge was never the problem, it was the players just not playing consistent FG standard footy, he’ll survive, imo.

Anyone notice how the contract money Brooks is on changes to suit the story? I’ve seen everything from $650k per year for next 2 years (apparently what Knights have available to lure him away) to $900k per season which is what WTs are supposedly paying him. I wish I could just make crap up everyday and call it my career!

Easy, all you have to do is post it here.

I still boggles my mind we won't release him. At best we're coming what? 11th? 12th? Hastings might be unproven at NRL level but Brooks has proven he's average at his absolute best, so what's there to lose? We save cap space, give Madden/another fringe FGer/young bloke a run and see what they're like, and then at midseason go forward with Doueihi and Hastings in the halves.

Depth.
We need someone in case Hastings gets injured.

Tannous, straight in the deep end....

I'm backing him....
Has enough terrier in him to take it on, that's for sure.

Getting ahead of ourselves again. He has not played against men, did he even get to Flegg or was he the age group below that when he did an ACL.

I know a half from a local under 12's team that is tearing up the comp, should we throw him in?

It also states that they have Jake Clifford and Adam Clune, both who they recruited last season, on their books. Why recruit them in the first place if you want to chase Brooks?

Journalism.

Possibly its completely made up.
Maybe it's Brooks' camp (agent and manager) making waves to get an extension... at the Tigers.

This is chess, not checkers.
Nothing is always as it seems.

I keep reading how WT have filled 29 spots, but how does the signing of Papalii and Api for 2023 form part of our 22 roster. I probably got this all wrong but would appreciate if someone could explain.

Former Storm winger Suliasi Vunivalu is reportedly courting interest from a series of NRL sides following reports that the Fijian flyer is mulling whether to turn his back on the 15-man code.

The 26-year-old back made the shift to rugby following Melbourne's premiership-winning 2020 season, however, after just a single season with Super Rugby franchise the Queensland Reds, The Daily Telegraph has claimed the speedster could be eyeing the exit.

Wouldn't be a bad pick up.

newcastle realise Brooks is an nrl class 6 or 7 they are rare. Halfback of the year 2018 under Cleary played average in an average team.
We do not have a 6 or 7 to replace him at that level therefore he will stay. Let's see how Newcastle go with Clunes or Clifford.

Understatement. He would be incredible. Every team would surely be enquiring. Guy is an amazing winger.

As I understand it:

We had 27 signed players a few weeks ago, Junior Tapou was 28, JTJ (if he has signed) is 29, leaving us 1 more to get, we didn’t sign the last one, last season till late, so we may not see any signings for a while? Though Sheens does things differently good, imo.

Papi and API are for next year and have never been included for 22, unless we trade players away?

Maybe they know he doesn’t like it here.
Obviously they don’t know he’s overrated and has been our anchor for years.
