Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Story in today's paper saying Peachey's wife doesn't want to leave Sydney. Penrith have said they can't afford to take him back.

Centre?

I'd take him with no second thoughts.

The season is over Tigers. If we don't hear of any new quality signings I can see a huge drop in the number of Tigers supporters for next year, We will not even be competitive. I would think that the Wests Tigers recruitment team have really shot themselves in the foot this time. Abysmal.

Time to take that pill again my son.

I have absolutely no hope that Peachey will even consider us- probably Bulldogs / Roosters / Sharks / Eels

Well they have an extra 500k

Wonder if the preemptive Panthers move on I.C has pushed everyone away from committing to WT? It would be interesting to hear from the club on that aspect. If so, try to sue the pants off Penrith & Gould.

I think the problem is that although Ivan has committed for the next 2 years it is almost a certainty he will leave then and possibly beforehand . Elite players are not going to sign on for a 2 year stint - they would want at least 4 but they have no idea who the coach might be at any given time. Gould and Penrith virtually cruelled this club for the next 2 years with what they did and the NRL says nothing.

I really don't see that as a problem.
Very few players now-days expect coaches to remain with a club long term.
And don't know Club would want a man who need a security blanket coaching guarantee before he signs a contract.

Can't wait to get howled down by the "be patient" brigade but our position on signings for 2019 has gone well beyond a joke. I was at the game last night and it was embarrassing, particularly the second half. I've never seen a forward pack dominate another pack as much as Souths did to us last night. In my opinion we are four good forwards short of having a good pack and I can't see where they're going to come from.
Other teams are signing new players and announcing them but we are quiet apart from the Roosters ISP player last week. We're told that we're being respectful of players who are still playing for their current clubs and are waiting until season's end. I think that's bollocks quite frankly because other clubs are happy to announce their signings. We have some very average players in our top side and I can't see that improving. Bottom 4 next year on current indications.
While I'm having a bit of a rant I was very unimpressed with Cleary's coaching last night. We could have been penalised every set last night for holding down in the tackle. When we were penalised we gave them 30 to 40 metres and six more tackles allowing them to keep the pressure on until we cracked in the second half. I believe we are coached to play that way and that's down to Cleary. I've gone from being a fan of Cleary to someone who won't be unhappy in the slightest if he goes to Penrith in 2019.

The positive is we got rid of a lot of DUDS.

The negative is we have a lot of DUDS left.

Will we sign any one worthy of 1st grade for next year ….. who knows

Another positive we have got some developing players

Who knows maybe we strike lucky and get cleary or someone

Did I just come to the eels forum. We can 9th which was about means we score another 2 wins and we r equal 5th right now. That is a field goal v Broncs and catching a ball v Knights and we are in the 8

Last night’s game shows that we need some bigger forwards. I don’t think the average efforts of Taylor and Huth this season will be overlooked going into next year. I mean if we see it, then a team of pro. coaches likely see it too. Can’t see Benji or Farah being on much coin or playing too much 1st grade next season either. The off-field performance of the club will translate into TPAs and recruitment. Good times and decent signings around the corner I think.

Yeah…and then look at last nights final 40 minute display...thats not deserving of being in the 8

I get the impression that even if we signed Cameron Smith, most people on here wouldn't be happy, saying "oh he's too old".

At least give the club a chance to make some signings. We still have 6 spots to fill (not counting the development players as they haven't been announced yet).

The problem is that we are fringe dwellers and we are conditioned and expected to accept that close enough is good enough. Well I think we are entitled to feel upset not making the finals yet again after starting so well - why are we always lamenting about a dropped catch or a missed tackle that could have got us over the line? Surely we can find some tough nut motivator to stop us clocking off throughout the season, Craig Bellamy does it for the Storm.
Most of all I feel sorry for a guy like Chris Lawrence who has busted everything for the the tigers but may never feel the exhilaration of a finals series - loyalty is forgotten once you retire.

This thing about Ivan staying or going has nothing to do about not wanting to talk to reporters or to give them fuel for a story

It's about Ivan telling the 100000 + tigers fans Australia wide what he is doing so we can all have some confidence in our future and our direction
So at this point of time Ivan said he is contracted for the next 2 years
It would be nice to hear ivan say he will honour that contract 100% and he fully intends to carry our club well into the future
It would also be nice to hear we are signing some key players in these areas
The problem is I dont think there are any answers for these at the moment
Our season is over
I would like a little clearer information in signings and coaching from our CEO
they need to come out with some kind of weekly or monthly news letter going through all the important issues from our club
This is one area that we seem to be very poor at communicating
It they wish to hold their support base together and to continue to grow this support base then they need to pull their finger out now and communicate with us

Dont leave us all in the DARK

They _have_ told us that they working on signings, unfortunately they need to wait until they are confirmed in case players change their mind or the deal falls through.

They need to announce some quality signings soon though, I agree with you there 100%. We've heard that IC doesn't want to pay overs for players, which is a good policy sure, but maybe we need to once or twice to get started and get someone here. Having cap space is pointless if we can't fill it.

We dont sign some second-choice backrower and some people do their nut. What if CHN didn't even want to sign for us?

What nonsense from some of you.

This team almost made the finals, so the team is capable, as it is. We've only released average footballers, no big losses for 2019.

Chris Lawrence played in a final series some years ago against the Warriors. I remember him missing a high ball on the Wests Tigers line.l

There isn't really much reason to think he wouldn't have wanted to sign for us. He was very close to signing with us last year (as he has said himself). The Bulldogs have better depth in their 2nd row than us, so it's not like they offered more in terms of opportunity. The Bulldogs are (supposedly) financially quite constrained, so we should have been able to compete on $. The 4 years is long but at least it's 4 years for a bloke in his early 20's and not 4 years for a 29 or 30 year old.

It seems to me like we might have someone else (better) in mind and while I like the idea of us being ambitious it's very risky. Sometimes you just have to take what the market throws up and improve by degrees and I think he's a much better prospect than Chee Kam, Aloiai, McQueen or Rochow on an edge.
