Last year we signed Grant to a 1 year contract (agreed loan deal) and gave him first grade experience & sent him back to the storm a better player.
Until I see extensions signed, I am not convinced that we are not doing the same (over more time) with Laurie, Blore & Stefano
Until we bring through our own juniors we will continue to be a stepping stone club. We are 5 years away I would be surprised if we keep many of these young kids. Our real hope is with the current Flegg players and below. Hopefully we get it right and increase no extend before the last year of contracts. Agents are smart though we have to pay to retain.
IMO we need visible structural change and for me that means the coach if we can get a suitable superior option (IMO Ciraldo or stay with Madge). We need to show the current and potential future players that the club is making changes but do it without butchering the good things that have been put in place (junior pathways etc).
I know everyone wants a top down clean out and I understand the superficial desire for that, but IMO its a dangerous route. The club DOES need systemic change but it also has the green shoots of good systems at the bottom that could/should pay off in 3-5years time. It is the nature of a board that if we replace the board in total, they are compelled to "Do something" and clean everything and everyone out. That might work but it also pushes everything back to square one.
After waiting the last 10 years, I dont want to go back to square 1. I like what I see with junior pathways, I like the idea of Sheens role, in principle I like Hartigans role, love the CoE being here in 12 months.
I want a "lite" clean out. All coaching staff except Madge if we cant get Ciraldo and I'd punt Burgess from the Board and replace him with an independent.
Why is Ciraldo a superior option with a handful of games as an NRL caretaker coach…
Being an assistant coach is all great and all but just like the step up from reserve grade to NRL as a player it is even more of a jump for a Coach especially at our Club..
Had you said Bennett then yeah..
Bennett would be first choice but very unrealistic.
I understand and agree with your point about the step up, but IMO Ciraldo has been groomed for this for a while and the younger players seem to have his respect. I might be totally wrong, but IMO Wolf would be an even bigger gamble. All these kids in the NRL play together and against each other in junior reps etc and the familarity of Ciraldo would be better than Wolf (ESL is reservce grade standard lets be honest).
