I like nofa but would love to see some speed on both flanks
I think some people have a romantic image of a winger as just ready to pounce on a great pass and scream 60m upfield to score. This does happen (at other clubs apparently) but 90% of the modern winger is dirty carries, tough kick returns and strong barges from 10m out.
Other than height and catching bombs, Nofo has the modern wing nailed.
Korobeite, JAC and Tuiaki
OK. Im struggling to see your point.
Firstly only one of those three guys still plays league and therefore could be made as an argument as the "modern winger".
Secondly Tuiaki was lot closer to my definition of a modern winger than an out and out speedster. Definitely great at the dirty carry and 10-15m out.
So you nominated three wingers, only one of them still plays, only two of them are fast, one of the fast guys doesnt have an NRL contract. Given JAC is an incredible asset with his pace but I see him as the exception not the rule.
MOst successful clubs have strong wingers who wouldnt be any faster than Nofo to do the hard stuff that is the bulk of a Wingers lot these days. Look at the difference Ferguson made to Parra last year.
These three wingers could do everything your so-called "modern winger" can do plus go the 100 metres which Nofoaluma cannot. ***The so-called modern winger is a myth***, an excuse for players lacking the number one asset of a winger, pace.
JAC is about as effective at "Dirty Carries" as CT. Korobiete was never known for hard work in his own 20.
If the "modern day winger" is a myth, I must have been dreaming when I saw Ferguson and Oats playing SOO....or Rapana at the raiders, Manu at NZ etc etc etc.....but yeah JAC.
JAC - NSW Origin and Australia. Try again.,
