Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Much needed signing...I am happy with Leilua/Momo starting centres round 1...

Be interesting to see what happens with Talau..maybe he will be played off the bench coming in for Benji at the 30 min...letting Benji go to hooker and Mbye take a rest...Not a fan of messing with halves mid game though

I think some people have a romantic image of a winger as just ready to pounce on a great pass and scream 60m upfield to score. This does happen (at other clubs apparently) but 90% of the modern winger is dirty carries, tough kick returns and strong barges from 10m out.

Other than height and catching bombs, Nofo has the modern wing nailed.

Korobeite, JAC and Tuiaki

OK. Im struggling to see your point.

Firstly only one of those three guys still plays league and therefore could be made as an argument as the "modern winger".

Secondly Tuiaki was lot closer to my definition of a modern winger than an out and out speedster. Definitely great at the dirty carry and 10-15m out.

So you nominated three wingers, only one of them still plays, only two of them are fast, one of the fast guys doesnt have an NRL contract. Given JAC is an incredible asset with his pace but I see him as the exception not the rule.

MOst successful clubs have strong wingers who wouldnt be any faster than Nofo to do the hard stuff that is the bulk of a Wingers lot these days. Look at the difference Ferguson made to Parra last year.

If Doueihi think any club will pay him 600k - he's dreaming.

If he thinks any club will offer him a 4 year deal at anything close to that money - he's highly delusional and poorly advised.

His manager needs to get Souths to come to the party. They signed him to a back ended deal, ie he accepted less money at the start of his contract in order to be paid overs at the end. To try and offload him now and expect other clubs to cover his early underpayment is ludicrous, no one will do it.

He is not a 14, no club rotates their fullback or 5/8. He either starts or he plays CC.

If he wants 4 years then the yearly amount drops. 4 years at 1.6 mil or 3 years at 1.35

Mitchell was on $550K for 2020, was offered $800 for 2021. They can afford AD

What about them? Tuiaki wasn't overly fast, great player that he was.

Very happy with the BJ signing now that’s it’s been reported.

He’s got a great set of hands and Noffzilla should benefit from his ability next year.

Who’s next?

These three wingers could do everything your so-called "modern winger" can do plus go the 100 metres which Nofoaluma cannot. The so-called modern winger is a myth, an excuse for players lacking the number one asset of a winger, pace.

JAC is about as effective at "Dirty Carries" as CT. Korobiete was never known for hard work in his own 20.

If the "modern day winger" is a myth, I must have been dreaming when I saw Ferguson and Oats playing SOO....or Rapana at the raiders, Manu at NZ etc etc etc.....but yeah JAC.

Just seen this on a South Forum

"Some interesting news from a friend who knows a bit of about the inner workings of a few clubs. Take it as you will.
Doueihi had a meeting with Roosters yesterday, Contemplating a move there.
Tedesco HAS apparently done his pec and Roosters are in panic mode. (Feel for him if in fact true)
Apparently we should be expecting an announcement next week Tues/Weds if he agrees.
Interesting turn of events."

I can actually see this happening where Roosters will get AD and he will turn out to be a SOO player.. We will sit back and say if only we increase our offer by 100k...

Yep.
Sad.

e wasn't saying they couldn't afford it, he was saying it would be a dumb move when they could have had Latrel for similar.

No need for me to "try again" (by the way is this 3rd class?). I already said about 2 posts ago that IMO JAC is the exception to the rule and this is borne out in SOO that they need that big body in Ferguson to do the dirty work because JAC isnt doing it. You rightly point out that JAC made the Aus team, who was the other winger? Nick Cotric...modern winger.

IMO in the modern game if you have other destructive forces, the old traditional winger like JAC is super valuable but every successful team needs strong wingers that can churn 100m from kick returns

Mate who would know the truth. Every Roosters or Souffs player is on a pie and can of coke when they sign on and $900K when they leave.

Great signing Leilua, pass on AD and go hard for JAC now

I think we could use AD as much as JAC. I also think we need to be careful in relation to signings.

Do we need a winger desperately ? I don't think so. I reckon Nofo, CT, Jennings and even Momo can cover that position.

I'd love us to get a gun fullback. I doubt AD is a gun fullback but maybe he could be a decent fullback and potentially a good 6 when Benji retires.

Love it how DT is complete rubbish until they announce a WestsTigers Signing - now their word is gospel!!

It's more the journalist reporting it and not the DT for myself. David Riccio isn't a rumour monger like a majority of his colleagues at the DT. Decent journalist.
