Simona on the move

I thought you couldn't register a contract with the nrl unless you were under the cap. How then was Idris signed?

It doesn't make sense. Unless tigers are trying to clear cap space incase we want to pick someone up mid season like ET last year. We do need $120k-$140k of cap room for Jamals match payments incase he plays the full season but surely that would already have been a consideration when signing him.

Bear in mind this rumour is coming from the Mole…

Good player, will be sad to see him go,hope he stays.

All this contract talk is normal fluff for this time of the year, especially given he is off contract at the end of this year. Probably his manager stirring the pot reminding WT and other clubs that he is here and off contract. Good management.

But how is this going to impact the team and the players mind set? All this talk about the big 4, Lovett and now Simona. It could end bad but it could also drive the team to unite and play harder for each other. You know last hoohrah - lets really have a go kind of thing.

I have no idea where these rumours come from. What is your source Batboy?

Anyway if it is true can somebody explain this to me: We bought one player this year (Idris around $400K) we get rid of Farah (save $250K) Lose Halatau, Sironen, Addo-Carr and a cast of others so how are we now in Salary Cap difficulties? Or do we have backend contracts for some of the end of contract players.

I will be livid if we lose Simona but keep Lovett.

However I'm not going to be worried until these rumblings come from a concrete source.

Can't believe still that people think all thsi is always true cause the mole reported it or it was in the paper. Seriously.

Idris plus full freight on ET on what was probably an upgraded contract.

I expect we're paying some of Sironen's contract this year too.

If Idris is on 400k, I'm a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

It seems ridiculous that to get under the cap we're trying to shop around a player in an already weak position. As others have already said, Naiqama is the one we should be shopping around - people would be interested in him at the right price and we can replace him (particularly given his defensive efforts most of last season).

It also seems too much of a coincidence now that the players being shopped around each year (Cherrington, Sironen, Lovett, Farah, Simona) are all products of the Balmain junior system. Maybe trying to purge?

lt seems like it

Simona is a great centre. He just had a crap year, as did the whole left side of the field. Rankin isn't the best winger, Brooks had a considerable drop in form and this is Lawrence's first year in the back row.

While Simona is a great centre, he would be an outstanding winger. We all remember that game against the Storm. It would be like that every week if he played left winh

Yeah….Mole will have a rest for a day ...so the Lurker will have Brooks Woods and Moses gone next

I am not sure of the basis of this rumour but if true who is making this decision? Is it Taylor, Egan, Pascoe or the board.
If we need to get rid of players to get under the cap, why are we shopping around players in positions where we have no depth? In the outside backs the replacements would likely be Rankin, Hunt or young blokes that no other NRL club would touch with a barge pole.
If a player needs to be moved on the club should be looking at players in positions where there is depth and other clubs are short on players. On this basis I would be looking at front rowers. Obviously we need to keep Woods and have Paseka, Felise & Tatola coming through. This leaves Sue, Ava & Grant and I believe Grant's contract is still being subsidised by former clubs, Sue just re-signed and so I would be shopping Ava around.

Lovett can play centre we are covered….. 😱pen_mouth:

I'd be surprised if Simona was forced to walk the plank given we were also apparently shopping Frozone around to the UK.

Has anyone thought the club is tapping players on the shoulder so as to position the club for QUALITY replacements in the not to distant future ..really I would not feed Simone has done nothing .

Can only imagine what Rankin would have copped if he'd pulled off some of the clangers Simona did last year.
