State of Origin 2025

Yep. A false perception created by the media to keep him down. There's nothing he did to create it so he should just carry on being himself and not be beaten down by it.
I would guess people of your age and elderly generation would have trouble relating to how younger people interact.
"To keep him down" LMFAO!!! why? why would the media want to do this? The victimhood within that statement is astonishing in its embarrassment.
It has nothing to do with understanding how young people interact. This isnt a new phenomenom, despite you thinking it is.
The fundamental lack of understanding here is not identifying that those within the squad act the same way he does. It isnt the reason. Ive heard he is a bit of a bastard around other player's women. If there is truth to that, then it makes more sense that some players dont like him.
I personally think thats piss weak - if you have a problem with a guy you punch him in the head and sort it out...but I suppose this current generation like to do things differently....

Laurie Daley explains Tigers star's NSW Blues snub

This is really poor form from Daley.
The throw away line that he isnt playing as well as the other props is so easily pulled apart that he needs data that shows his point has merit. Anyone could easily pull together some stats that show he is playing better than the others. You have to defend your position with logic. Daley comes off as a dumbarse merely stating they are playing better than him.
Also stating that he wasnt going to talk to the guy is terrible leadership. You need to keep the guys on the periphery on the hook. You pump ther ego and give them some tips to work on so that they can put their name forward next year with more success. What if he needs him for the game 3 decider due to injury and suspension?

I have a counter argument for May. Earlier in the year Daley also mentioned that he is watching the games closely looking for players that stand out as Origin material. May has failed in these areas, partly due to coaching / game management selections; partly due to his insistence of playing long minutes to the detriment of the side.

To answer your earlier question this was quoted in a recent article when talk was about him looking at not being selected.

But according to Fox Sports, Laurie Daleyhasn't been impressed with some of the feedback he has received on May when asking trusted people in his network.

The report is that May's defence isn't always up to scratch, and that his character may make gelling in an Origin camp - which only lasts for ten days - difficult.

The feedback on May's defence is difficult to understand. Playing in an up and down Tigers team, and putting in enormous minutes, he is averaging a tick over 40 tackles per game, at an efficiency of almost 98 per cent, making him one of the competition's best.

The other part of the equation though may speak further to his shock exit from the Sydney Roosters at the end of 2024 more than anything else, with the club reportedly wanting to go in a different direction at the time, and not seeing May as part of their long-term plans.

May was described as 'eccentric' in the report, and it's something Daley is reportedly not overly keen on.”

There are no key metrics presented there. What areas has he failed in that Laurie personally has noticed?
It seems Daley has taken the word of others who may not be watching closely enough.
His defence isnt always up to scratch apparently?

I call bullshit on that excuse.
People involved with NSWRL...be it players, trainers or managers have had a runin with this bloke somewhere and do not like him.

Agreed. It doesn't add up and, pardon the trope, it doesn't pass the pub test.

Are politics at play? Player agents perhaps? If they have the power to demand which journalists can or cannot appear on Channel 9 NRL shows, could they have sway over rep selections? Could the mentor coach, Bellamy, have had sway to get Stefano in there despite playing 'worse' than last year and nowhere near May's stats?

I want to believe players are selected on merit, and can justify why Moses pipped Luai or even Robson over Api (on form that is pretty bonkers though, especially after the weekend). But when it is as egregious as saying May isn't playing as good as other props that he beats on every stat, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Still want to Blues to win, but if Qld get up in game one, it would be sweet for Laurie to face the music and have to select May/Luai/Api then they come back to win the last 2 games. But I have a feeling there may be some cognitive dissonance and he doubles-down on his selection.

Oh well, least our boys get a week off to recover and come back with even more fire. Go you Tigers!!!

Things we don’t look for as fans.
I’ve been trying to find the Laurie Daley quote all day but can’t. It was something around how they respond off the ball, do they stay alert, do they jog to their next job, do they walk.
He today mentioned one play that got Max King into the side, he apparently made the try saving tackle after an intercept vs the titans by running back 80m to be involved. Can’t see May doing that whilst also pumping out 80mins.
That is at the fault of his own and his coach for insisting to play him too long.

On my own observations. I’ve noticed Wade Egan drag him out of the defensive line and pass to an inside runner to score. Moses Suli take him head on and brush him off and Munster brush him off late in the Storm game.
Unfortunately these are the efforts he needs to make and not continually putting his hand up to cart the ball up.

Front rowers in SOO don’t play long minutes because of the speed of the game compared to a regular NRL game,
So if I’m selecting props for 20-30 minute stints T.May would not be the type of player I would select either.

Are probably the only big middle players that can play longer minutes without losing structure.

I havent seen him live, are you saying he is lazy off the ball?
Im sure Ive seen him making his tackles back on the inside and chasing linebreaks.

I’m saying he conserves himself. I reckon he could make those efforts if his goal isn’t to be a lock in front rowers body!

Tino can do it too, as can Cotter out of the current mob. Theres a minimum of 5. May is likely even fitter than them...the bloke runs marathons.
Why can they do it and he cant?
There was a time when someone had to take the gamble that these guys could do this at SOO level. Daley hasnt got the balls obviously.

This stat from last night would suggest he doesn't slack off ....

I would say other than Cotter those other 4 put a dent in the defensive line on most of their hit ups.
Do you think May is as damaging as them ?

Hes more the dependable workhorse type currently.
He is definitely big enough, maybe some good coaching can get him there as well.

We will differ on this one mate,
Don’t get me wrong he is our best front rower I just think there are better options than him for SOO.
I am not a stats person I judge on what I see.
And remember it’s only my opinion.
