Yasi was moving at 33kph when it crossed the coast Tracy was at moving 6 kph when it hit Darwin
The slower it moves , the longer it is in the hit zone

Yeppoon is in massive trouble

The biggest concern for Gladstone will be if the Cyclone when it crosses Yeppoon heads back over water
If it does it will get us based on current wind predictions at probably Cat 3
Based on Cat 3 we will stay , anything higher and Happy might enjoy a few drinks at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre and ride it out in comfort

That scenario is the one I've been worrying about for my mate at 1770\. I was joking with him the other day when it was a Cat 2\. Doesn't seem so funny now. He really is in low lying country and may end up in trouble.

They are predicting a 2.6m storm surge for Gladstone…
Hitting Gladstone early tonight they reckon. Hopefully it will downgrade by then, but these things are so unpredictable, I'd be getting out of there just to be on the safe side, Happy. As they just said on the news, you can't over-react in these situations because the damage can still come even days after it all seems to be over.

Currently Category 5 with winds of 285km an hour, not to far from Cqtiger now. Hope all stay safe.

We're ok just now. Have my son and his girlfriend staying.
Wind is really starting to pick up now. Been raining heavily, back yard starting to look like a swimming pool. They're saying it is just about on top of Yeppoon now. Heard the police are locking down the cyclone shelter.
Predicting that it is about 2 hours from Rocky (I'm north rocky).
The son and I have setup stuff downstairs. We have an emergency plan. Phones are charged, torches ready, radio ready. Water bottles full, canned food. Car keys on us because 2 cars parked under house - first option stay in car listen to car radio covered in blankets. If it really turns to crap we have put a mattress in downstairs toilet where 4 of us and the dog can huddle together.
Anyway, we have planned for the worst but are hoping for the best.
I am usually on the forum getting updates from games. Now I'm giving updates. Who'da thunk it?
