We need to sign him up to a Payne Hass type, long term deal STAT. Add in extra incentives for making finals.

Now that we haven't wasted 800k on a "big name" like TPJ, we should have plenty of room to upgrade him.

He bulldozed Tom Dearden on his way to the try line and won the battle in the middle third against vastly more experienced opponents. To say Wests Tigers have hit upon a gem with Stefano Utoikamanu would be an understatement.

LEICHHARDT EXPRESS

Stefano Utoikamanu has grown to become one of the scariest prospects in any NRL forward pack and he proved it with a dominant display in Townsville.

The 191cm prop forward looked like Andre the Giant as he monstered Tom Dearden on his way to the try line to open the scoring for the Tigers.

He proceeded to win the battle in the middle third, making Cowboys starting props Frank Molo and Jordan McLean – who are both on twice as much money as him – look second-rate.

The 21-year-old finished with two tackle breaks, two offloads and line break to go with his 149 metres from 16 carries in 42 minutes on the field.

“(Utoikamanu) has been good for us, he has been a really consistent performer for us. Every game he plays he is learning, he is understanding his style of play and I think the fact the guys are working with him and the combinations are growing between these young guys, that is where we need to be as a group,” Maguire said.

“He is definitely going to be a strong performer moving forward in the competition, not just for us, but I think there will be other representative stuff when the time is right.

“To watch him come to us, put his head down and do all the training he has done. He is a real pro. To go in and see what the Origin team does and how they prepare, that has taken him to another level. It is now doing that consistently.”

Stefano vs Cowboys

41 mins
1 try
1 line break
16 runs for 151m
58 post contact metres
21 tackles (0 missed)
2 offloads

Averaged over around 60mins the 3 games played prior. Look forward to his breakout year 2022. 🙌

Sorry, I didn’t pick up the DT bit?

Was interesting, last night...
I paid close attention to the game and Stefano in particular.

He has such a powerful build for a young guy.
In the pre season we were saying he's got some puppy fat and needs to grow into his body... and hasn't he.

He looks like petero civoniceva out there.
Even his head shape and facial structure looked strong, as weird as that sounds.

Guys going to be a powerhouse.
The league were frothing on the Saifiti twins in recent years who I don't think are anything special.
Stefano >

Seriously, him and Payne Haas are like cyborg props. Look like they're purpose built for the position.

Lucky to have him and hopefully we can keep him at the club for his whole career.

Love to see him and AD achieve a premiership with us
We should be building the team around em.

He will be the best prop in the game within 2 years.

Whatever you do next time you talk to Justin, please make sure they’re not sleepwalking on this big unit. If he straps up in another jersey in 2-3 years that’s me.

It'd be as bad as losing Tedesco.
The guy is a SUPER talent.

Life time contract, please.
10 year / 10 mill.

Touch early for that comparison but you may well be right

The commentary team give Madge no credit.
‘Really stepped up his game since training with the blues’
I think he has been pretty decent all year lol.

He has been decent all year but it is hard to argue that he hasn't gone to another level since the Origin camp. He has been our best player since then.

Right but did he go to another level *because* of the Origin camp, or was he already on his way there. I find it amusing, personally, that a week in Origin camp gets Stefano from "promising" to "established".

Post-Origin also coincides with Madge promoting Stefano back to starting front-rower, a challenge to which Stefano has risen.

Brandy also happens to have been a 2021 assistant coach / camp adviser, so I'm not surprised that other people want to take credit for the emergence of Stefano, which Tigers have predicted since end of 2019.

Don't hear too many players referred to as having a "strong face", as least other than a euphemism for being ugly.
