Taylor calling in to Triple M Rush Hour

Listened to the call and Taylor was controlled and measured, it wasn't a blow up or panic, straight away he opened himself to questions about how the team was going rather than rant and rave about how everyone was wrong, stark contrast to how some current NRL coaches conduct themselves in the media.

I've been frustrated as well, but hearing Taylor talk about why we are playing like this and what we are trying to achieve helps put things in perspective.

Most of the ranting and raving takes place on this forum.

Still cant understand why the team's focus is totally on a defensive structure, attack is a form of defence itself, the opposition are not sure what to expect, however a couple of sets with four or five one out runs followed by a bomb gives them a clue

Went away at Easter and returned to find my house burgled . The jerk took all my whisky. (6 bottles of top shelf single malt) 😢 I now feel a similar feeling. Stuck with beer, but I'll get by. I like beer too but I love whiskey.

I'm actually quite concerned with him calling in like that, it comes across as extremely thin-skinned (as much as he tried to be 'open'), a criticism which I've heard labelled at him a couple of times.

I was concerned with a few things he said as well - firstly on Moses. While he defended him about his defence, he also said at one point "there's nobody better to replace him with in the club", which is a completely unacceptable thing to say about a young player publicly. Whether it is true or not is irrelevant, can you imagine what Moses is thinking of his coach's confidence in him when he hears this broadcast?

In addition to that, I simply can't agree with his proposition that you have to let your attack suffer to work on your defence. The fact is that you can spend every waking moment on your defence, but if you don't score a solitary point you can't win games. The three successful seasons this club has had have actually been a result of a positive defensive attitude rather than because of our attack. Take a look at Souths for example, they could always score points before Maguire got there, but he got their defence sorted without adversely impacting their attack and now they're a premiership threat every year.

I worry that Taylor is too stubborn to see or admit that his plan may not be working, considering two of our best assets long term (Brooks and Moses) have gone backwards as overall players since he took over. Their attack has gone way back, and their defence hasn't improved really, and if he as a coach stagnates their growth as players, the club will lose in the long term.

No matter where you stand on the Moses issue, and leaving personal preferences aside, How would he know that there's nothing better in reserve grade to replace Moses with.
He hasn't tried anyone!!!!!
If he's so sold on Moses Then maybe that's what he should have said ,and stuck to it, not that he's all we have. And if he believes that that is the only reason that he is keeping him in the side, Then why not at least try Drinkwater at 5/8, if he doesn't come up to scratch then at least he will know for sure, at least he will cover one of our defence problems, and isn't this all supposed to be about defence, to me it seems that there's some conflicting statements coming from JT,

Sorry to hear mate, did they ever find out who did it ?,I agree they are jerks, although there are better more colourful words to describe the scum.

Taylor has a fortnight to work further on the teams defence, let's see how it works out against the Titans.

I believe in his idea that WT HAVE to sort the defense out. I don't agree with the way he's doing it though. It's good to have the foresight about what's going to happen years down the track but more than anything you need to focus on next week. How are we gonna win next week?

Yeh it's about playing tough but what's concerning is he refusing that they need to find a balance between attack and defense- he's blatantly refusing to find that balance and saying it's all about defense which is completely wrong IMO.

You can play to structure and play entertaining football. I've never heard anyone say manly or roosters are boring. Even the storm are entertaining in attack. The only team I can think of that was boring was probably dragons under Bennett.

happy with JT and how he is handling the situation. Tigers have been too soft up the middle for too long. Nothing tougher then one out football. its a game of attrition, something that these players need. If its too tough for them then they can go…. i expect a clean out at the end of the year across the 3 grades some players are not up to it.

If you have one of the best attack coaches in the game worried about defence then that speaks for itself. Roosters would not have won a comp had JT not been there, im certain. His plan can win us a comp, just have to buy into it.

I disagree completely. I think it showed Taylor for what he is; stubborn and blinkered.

How the hell is HE going to teach this group to "toughen up" , …. a phrase he used repeatedly in that interview?

HE needs to "toughen up" and accept that criticism goes with the territory of being an NRL coach where 9000 people pay to be members and sponsors tip in thousands of $$.

What in the world prompted him to think that calling into Triple M would do anything to build confidence of members and fans in coaching this team?

Could you imagine Bennett or Robinson or Toovey or Maguire doing that......????

I am m ore concerned than ever now. To me, it showed a fundamental flaw in his character to even think about doing that.

If he didn't have WT executive approval to do request that interview, he needs to be stood down...IMMEDIATELY!

Are you serious…?

I think it was a weird thing to do. But I don't think he should be stood down.

I've been happy that he hasn't bagged players in public, up until now , it's a shame that he started now to bag some of the forwards. I've got no problem with him getting up the forwards who are letting him down, but that belongs at training.
Just seems like a grab at excuses

JT was so angry with their performance on Saturday that the top 25 players were called to Maroubra on Sunday for a special training session.

Not much point JT calling that special training session if it did not contain a heavy emphasis on attacking play. My very serious concern is that JT doesn't realise that.

I've said it before , how any coach could get anything out of our defence against the depleted Cowboys. Without two of the current best attacking players in the Comp. Is beyond me.thank heavens that Morgan and Thurston weren't there. I wonder how our defence would have held out with them there.
The couple of weeks after the Origin finishes will give a bit more light on whether there is any difference , or whether it's a con job

Agree Gold Coast that Drinkwater should be tried at 5/8 for Moses who has shown nothing yet to suggest he is ready for first grade football. Drinkwater is sharper, more creative , has a better kicking game and better all round game vision.

he goes alright in NSW Cup, he should be destroying Reserve grade players if he wants to demand a FG spot.

no way on earth he will displace our halves on form, he's simply not good enough. a bit more physically developed perhaps but that's about all he offers. and no long term potential like brooks and moses do

Drinkwater hardly tore apart Wyong on the weekend and Moses played one of his better games. I'm not sure making that switch would produce the results some think they would.

Never found out who it was, but you get that sometimes. More colourful language might attract the attention of willow and earn me a warning. One must play by the rules on here .

Drinkwater will not play NRL unless there is an injury to one of the halves.

Taylor will persist with his top 17 until they can improve their defence.

Only injury will open the door for state cup players.
