The anticipation of a great 2017 season...

Love to see us stand up and be counted for 80 minutes every week , that's all we can ask

Wins against the Raiders and Roosters .

I was talking to a friend who is a member of WTs on the weekend and he said that he had a chat with a couple of guys who had spoken to Matt Mcillrick…Matt is super keen to play for the WTs and the change to a new club has revitalised him...with Jamal coming on board and ET resigning, and the RF dramas behind us,maybe the year ahead could be more fruitful than first thought...apparently the young guys are really enthusiastic about their footy and we could see a much improved team come the first round..JT can concentrate on the coaching of the team more now RF has gone, and hopefully the new D coaches can iron out some of the faults within our defensive structures..I'm not saying we are going to be grand finalists, however a marked improvement could see us contending for a top 4 spot,it doesn't matter as long as the team puts in every week and has a good go that would please me...

Looking forward to it.... :sign:

Matt who? Jamal who? ET who? JT who? With RF gone (the current SOO hooker)….......?

I mean, you can't be serious.

Despite numerous calls from the membership office alerting me to losing my designated seats for 2017, I haven't paid up (yet) to be a member (after 12 years) and there is nothing so far that makes me want to change my mind.

I'm in the same boat not renewing either.

JT wants a union for coaches to offer job security. It was on the news last night. JT not too keen at all to talk about RF (or the apparent contradiction of him moving on contracted players) while he himself wants job security.

Farah is ancient history and has more job security than JT has

Farah should be thankful

Do you ever make a comment that isn't a thinly veiled shot at the coach ??

Farah and Marshall are our best ever players. Not ancient history but a part of the club's foundation. Spin it however you like but there is no way around it.

Go and read a few threads about juniors and you'll read that I make quite a few comments about our younger players. I have high hopes for a young fullback and centre promoted from the Balmain SG Ball.

As for JT, the sooner his arse hits the street the better.

can anyone else see similarities to 2005

Wouldn't go that far, we don't have the back row. But finals are very realistic.

We have the raw talent but our 2nd row is poor both of them have to lift above the "plodder" level and become worthwhile players.

I think that we can contend for the finals, but there are a few big ifs there:
- If Tedesco stays fit
- If Moses is consistent
- If our edge defence are all on the same page

Our side on paper isn't all that bad, and i think we can match up with most teams. We have the best no 1 in the game. A no 6 who has the potential to be the best no 6 in the game. An Australian prop, handy outside backs, and an experienced and clever 13\. It's the back row where it falls down like a house of cards. Lawrence busts a gut but is a toiler at best, and Aloiai, though i believe he has potential, is still a year or two away from hitting his straps. We'll only go so far with these 2 starting in the back row. There's no punch and that will be our downfall imo. We were skinny out wide, and Idris more than fills that hole if he plays to his potential. I still think we can make the 8, but getting a back rower with some punch has to be on the to do list for 2018.

I am hoping that with specialist dummy halves, ET will be able to play as a wider running back rower and not a first receiver. Aloiai (or another forward) can play as a middle forward and carry a lot of the grunt work.

Wow..Josh Aloiai a plodder at 20…poor bugga...

You are never too young (or old) to be a plodder. Not that I think Aloiai fits into the category. He improved quite a bit through last year. If he improves his defence and continues to improve, can be a very good player.

Is a toiler an A+ Plodder ??

This just gets more confusing every day

I'll take Hodgson and Ellis over the other two any day of the week

A toiler is a hard working plodder. Not all plodders are toilers. Thinking of getting a government grant and doing a PH.D. On plodders, seen plenty of them over the years, especially wearing Orange and black colours

Back to the subject…..Contract negotiations could have a big bearing on how we do. We need to get them done and dusted before a ball is kicked off. Last year we had the Brooks and Moses thing drag on for months, not to mention Farahgate, and it was a massive distractions. The same thing will happen in 2017 if these contract talks drag onto June.

Not sure it will happen and my gut feeling it will drag on again, but even if one or two decide to move on, we need to have it out of the way ASAP

Geo i dont mean he is a bad player he has heaps of raw talent like many of the others but lets be honest he wouldnt be a starting back rower at many clubs.Lawrence tries hard but dosent have the size to be particularly effective.Maybe not "plodders"but an area where a massive improvement is required or 2017 will be another year of no finals

I classify a toiler as an honest worker who gives it his all. The term "plodder" has become the most over used expression. Some seem to think there are only 2 types of players, guns and plodders and that there is no in between. That's rubbish. Buchanan was a plodder, Milone was a plodder. Lawrence is not.

Following the WTs can make you pretty angry and sad at times, but they also get you excited and proud to be a part of the club,I have been since the JV started….I will not support another club,we all must take the good with the bad if we are loyal, and yes we have had some poor players coaches and admin over the period of time, but we can only hope much better desicions are made from within the club for the future of the club....they will get my membership renewal again this year and I hope as usual the onfield performances improve on other years...

It would be great if we get this back rower in 2017\. I would go so far to say that our 2016 back row was close to the worst of the competition.
