The Storm Rorting Super Thread.....

The premiership may be ours. It's out of us Parra, Penrith and Dragons. If we still had Moltz i'd be putting some serious money on us.

We can kick the storm while they're down all we like. It wont change anything.

I feel sorry for the game more than anything else. Any headway the Melbourne Storm made into that fumblefest of a game AFL in Victoria has all been undone.

Weren't there people on here saying the only reason they didn't strip the Titans' points was they didn't want to generate the bad publicity. I guess they all look pretty stupid now, aye. Well done to the NRL for taking the tough stance against an expansion club.

Why did it take 5 years to bust them!!!…And it took an insider to dump on the Stormfor them to get busted!....It wasn't the detective work of Ian Schubert...so this could've gone on for many more years and we'd be none the wiser...I think the NRL has real issues in policing the cap!..I say dump it! and sayonara Storm!

Eels & Manly fans arguing they should be awarded the premierships are kidding themselves. That'd be unfair to the clubs that the Storm beat in the prelims and semis. And what about Wests Tigers, who finished 9th in 2007 & 2009? If you cancel out the Storm it changes the outcome of the season completely.

Particulary Parramatta
Wests Tigers and Souths lost a game to Melbourne where as Parramatta beat Melbourne in 2009, reverse those two losing results and Wests Tigers finish 7th and Souths 8th, Parramatta miss the finals and finish 9th.

One shouldn't forget the success of the Storm in last years junior rep season either. That was legitimate and well earned success

It is such a shame though for any innocent party associated with the club

As a tigers fan, I feel really let down. Not because we were going to win in 2007 and 2009, but if we at least had a fair go I'd be happy.

Considering how well we were playing at the back end of last season, I thought that we had a really good chance of beating st george or the dogs in the qualifying final, even though they would have both been away.

Back to the point, I can't understand why between 2005-2010 the salary cap auditors never found about this. I mean, the team they were playing on the park was arguably an 'all stars' line up, with at least 5 of them on contracts over 400 grand. I mean, it's not hard to work out.

You have to prove it though, it seems players were being paid in cash siphoned discretley from the company before it even hit the books. I am not sure these monies even went into bank accounts.

Clearly this would indicate players being complicent in fraud if it were found to be the case.

As far as the game goes I think worse is to come from this mess

Systematic cheating, two sets of files with the true amounts locked away in a secret room….

Brian Waldron will do time for this imo

Massive, a dark day for Rugby League indeed.

Paul Kent just said the same thing on the Matty Johns Show

Do time? If you mean gaol then it is an absolute certainty that he won't do ANY time.

Someone had to be in charge of the books - that is fraud. Someone will spend some time for that.

would not be suprised if they are not allowed to compete next season.

Will be interesting to see the final upshot of this in terms of criminal proceedings for fraud. Two sets of accounts and books, you gotta think plenty more people other than Waldron knew about it. could be some players losing their heads over this.

Query - they can't accumulate points in 2010\. I get that, but why do they get to keep all their current team if the NRL is saying that they would have been overspent by $700,000 this year? Seems a bit unfair to have to play them with their current lineup. And, I will be mightily pissed if we end up with injuries from playing them. Thankfully, we only play them once at Leichhardt - i'd be angry if we had to play them down there.

Will be interesting to see how their players react - will they still put in 100% effort each week? is it fair that some teams play them once, others twice?

Player payments would need to go down to salary cap levels then the players will be released from their contracts because the club isn't paying them what their contract says. Should be some good players on the market.

After having sometime to think about it, I am disgusted at the melbourne management and also the NRL. It should have been caught a long time ago as most people suspected it, it appears Schubert isn't much at catching the cheats. The melbourne management have done a lot to destroy the chance of league ever having a chance in melbourne (though slim) and yet again league is in trouble. Most of all I feel that they have cheated the melbourne supporters the most. What ever pride and passion they had developed for their club has been misdirected and misplaced.

the only person anywhere so far who has mentioned player managers is geyer.
i think managers are one of the main causes of this sort of problem and are guaranteed to know what is happening.
I hope a number of them get locked up.
