Tigers interested in Beau Scott

Who I would get rid of well
Adam Blair to start with which frees up some cash already.
Tim Moltzen off contract at the end of this year
I also think Pat Richards and Dene Halatau will be retiring so we will need the experience Scott brings

So none of the young blokes have to go but in saying that not all of them will turn into stars and even if they did with 6 of them some would have to go anyway

Beau Scott ads experinece which is what we need with this squad and great defence

Beau Scott 2014 stats
Jesse Sue 2014 stats
Given the minutes difference suggests Sue is a far more useful player than Scott and he also has a much bigger upside. Scott's average tackles per game are quite low for 75 min player.

My tip is if we buy Beau he will become this Forums new whipping boy.

Come on this guy rubbed out JT last week with aplomb.

Sooner rather than later we will have most of our Harold Mathews squad going thru the NRL.

Why purchase so called Marquee players with the juniors we have coming on.

Oh thats right their the Balmain Boys…....................pfffft.

???????????????????????????? Where is that coming from?

The local asylum obviously

Don't feed the troll

What those figures don't include:
1\. Destroy opposition playmaker
2\. Protect your half/five eighth in defence
3\. Scare the crap out of every player in the attacking backline when they see you heading directly at them.
Sue better than Scott?
In the future maybe - not even in the same league now ( and neither are any of our second rowers)

Dont disagree with you entirely but stats show Scott has a low workrate.

That being said, I still consider Scott to be overrated, particularly at club level. He is good in big games where he has a specific target to focus. Week to week he is not as effective.

By next year both will be a year older. That will be to the benefit of Sue and the detriment of Scott.

For the people talking about Lamar and developing him etc.
My old housemate was pretty close with a lot of players, she's first cousins with Tony Williams. It was pretty cool because a few of them came over and I got to chat footy with them all which was awesome. John Asiata from the Cowboys who lives with Taumalolo, few of the Parra and Dogs boys came round but she was very close with Lamar.

I posted what I found out when he was signing back up with us and even then he was saying that he will likely end up at the Dogs with his brother. I read on here though that he ended up joining them but coming back to the Tigers. I just hope we present him with plenty of opportunities to change his mind from leaving once he starts reaching his potential, because he seemed pretty adamant he would leave at the end of his contract. Hate seeing our young guys play well and get poached, but unfortunately it's the nature of the beast until the NRL start rewarding clubs for junior development with salary cap concessions.

Missing the point. The young guys want to play NRL.

If there is no spot for them or they think that the club prefers some old guy they will go elsewhere.

You can t keep them all, Sign Scott lose one or two for sure and certain.

that's not the right way of looking.. you still need 25 players in the top 25.

if you get rid of halatau/richards/moltzen- who are you gonna have for depth? even more u20s players? we already have a young enough side, we need to buy a couple of experienced journeymen who can serve our depth if we lose the three mentioned.

Wouldn't we be better off trying to sign a quality centre or game-breaking winger? We are thinner in the outside backs than the backrow. A quality goalkicker will also be desperately needed once Pat retires, can't recall any teams winning the premiership with an iffy goalkicker in the last 15-20 years, nearly all of them have been deadeyes.

I'm not fussed either way about him. He's an enforcer and plays tough and because of that, he gets penalised a fair bit. He also seems to get injured quite a bit too. I don't see him coming to the WT. But stranger things have happened.

Atop the fence on this one. Plays right side, whereas we have Sirro and Lamar that are/prefer playing left, so yes. Getting older, is a bit of a grub and we have an improving Sue, another talent in Funaki, so no. Etc, etc, etc.

Mid season decision when more information on our youngsters can be evaluated would be appropriate.

i feel the same way.
this is what sucks about having to sign players so early, especially with players 30+.
he would be 32 just 8 weeks into his first season with us.
what is he like on the injury front these last few years?
how are the knees?

what are we doing at centre.simona off contract and lawrence another year or released.

I recall KG and i think Woodsy saying how at training everyone tries to avoid running at Funaki because he hits so hard in defence, even at training in inter-squad matches! He still has a long way to go but he leaves players stinging after he tackles them. Still just a teenager with 2 years of eligibility to play NYC, a lot of filling out to do, and a local junior, he could certainly be our intimidator of the future.

Do we need to fork out, and let's be realistic here, 5-600k, for an aging intimidator with an average work rate?

Sue has been acting as Moses' bodyguard and hasn't missed a tackle so far this season. We'll see how this continues over the season, so we'll see if we still need a bodyguard or not. A solid defensive structure is the best bodyguard for a young playmaker!

In 3 years time I see our back row looking like:

11\. Liolevave
12\. Sirro
13\. Santi
14\. Funaki

Id say no…..I like the kids we have coming through and wouldnt want to deprive them of coin or time on field.

Not the worst buy,of coure but i think we have the talent there, why go elsewhere?

then give him a thumbs up!

when i first saw they were interested i thought maybe he could step into the role Blair played as a mentor type, but then do they really need him?

also, a bit of mongrel never goes astray…

having said that, i think it could be a nice boost for the forwards for the club to say "we dont need him with the guys we've got here". show some confidence in the squad they have.

so my vote is no.

as for the concerns about his age, well thats what the medical staff is for. its their job to analyse a player and determine how he should stand up the next three years... and the tigers medical staff have been awesome the last few years!

So it's a resounding NO from most of you to a current Australian and SOO player in place of a bunch of unproven kids? :unamused:
If he's the right price I don't think our coaching and recruitment team would be thinking the same way.
Apart from his play, his experience alone would be invaluable to the young guys.

Huh? Can't Beau Scott play centre? Maybe our club should say "we don't need him" so that we give a nice boost to Lawrence's confidence.

Good call.

We should rather try and boost our players confidence than acquire rep players.

:wtf
