Time for a Keep Blake Austin thread yet ?

I see the 2 situations differently because Blake is not a Tigers junior who has been injured consistently. We have had good value out of Blake.

I notice no $ in Austin's name.

He had 3 years at Penrith and only played 16 NRL games. His under contract to The Wests Tigers.
Yes he had a good year and now he wants to take the money from Canberra and run.

No sorry You don't get a release.

$trange isn't it. Another player with a few more top grade games than Blake was castigated for originally making a similar decision to the potential one Austin is thought to be making.

.

Two different situations. One wanted to go for money, the other for a guaranteed position.

But he didn't ,did he

But then again we haven't heard anything from Blake about this either

Does he want to stay a Tiger ??

Not that it matters , we have a contract and if the Raiders want him that much we will take someone off their hands to make the deal worthwhile

This should be win / win situation for the Tigers if Blake does leave

No he didn't . I was merely pointing out the reason why nobody has used $ for Austin.

I'm short if Canberra is going to offer $$$ for Austin, he would have to look after himself and his family. No matter how much he enjoyed being at the tigers.

If he is only on a basic contract and Ricky offers him $300k you would be silly not to take it.

I want him to stay, however I can completely understand his reasons for wanting to leave.

Our best chance of holding on to him, would be to extend and upgrade his contract.

Willow, what definitive info do you have regarding Austin? Or is it just a gut feel?

There really is no reason we should let him go. It would severely weaken our squad for 2015\. And as i said yesterday he doesn't even know if he fits into the coaches plans for next season. So why would he demand a move away from someone he doesn't even know. Maybe the new coach will be his biggest fan..! Who knows…

The _only_ possible way i see him going is if it's a group sale, ie - Raiders take Lawrence at full price and we'll let Austin go as well. That i could live with. While i'd prefer Austin to stay, if we could get rid of Lawrence and his 500k estimated to be under the cap next season that's something we simply have to do.

An extra 600k could get us a decent centre and a decent experienced half.

Seeing the article doesn't contain a single quote, and our CEO came out and said later that day that Austin's a wanted player and will be staying here in 2015, i'm likely to believe that it all just a load of publicity

There are no guarantees. Stuart could be sacked. Canberra might not win a game, Campese could come good.
Austin is going for the money any other reason is just rubbish.
His under contract. Man up Mayer and just tell him no release.

For mine I would like to see Blake retained, If he does jump ship and sign for Sticky what becomes of the Doonside team he coaches?, what is the story of him being sacked from the Panthers for being light fingered?.
Read it on another forum!.

Not fussed .. We have 2 young kids with ability of same if not better..
If he was a super star i would be whinging and be all over it .. But …
He has been very good for us but by no means irreplaceable

Let the kid go and chase his dream where there is an opportunity….we have mosses and the kid everyone's raving about in NYC ...

Let go a player that can cover 1,3,6,7,12 and 9 who leaves everything on the field when he pulls on the jersey for us…for two rookies one who is 18 the other yet to prove he is up to the week in week out grind that is NRL footy....makes sense...if it happens this club will never learn

I reckon there is more hope that David Campese will come good than Terry Campese

I don't know that we've got good value from Austin yet,
He was signed for two years and given another chance at first grade which he wasn't going to get at PEnrith. (For whatever reason)
He would have known before he came here , that the club had a high opinion of Brooks and Moses as a halves pairs(so would have known that it wasn't as simple of rocking up and slotting into five eighth)
While he did have some good games with us this year I 'm still not prepared to go as overboard over him as some have.
He possibly could end up as a top quality first grader, but IMO he's still got a long way to go to be at that level ,and be needs to be able to learn to set things up for his outside backs more than he does now.
There is no guarantee that Moses will make that jump in standard either but if Blake has any confidence in his own ability then he needs to show enough fight and determination to honour his contract and fight for the position next season ) , and so far as we know , that might be exactly what he intends to do)
Who knows ? With all the B/s around our club and the media , you can't believe anything you read.
I may be wrong , but at the moment I see Blake as a depth player to cover the positions that he has been already. If he turns out to be better than Moses , then he should get the spot if not he will be a good bench player for us until he can get a regular spot. And we need depth.

It should be remembered that he has played 26 or 27 first grade games between Penrith and Wests , and that Moses has had a lot less under difficult circumstances . BOth should get better
If he continues to improve and play out his contract then we probably would have got good value from himand he,s free to go anywhere or stay here.
I just hope that club management has learned from their experience this year, with releasing players one week, and then having to run around like chooks with their head cut off the next week, to try to fill the jumpers with anyone that was left standing.
I think that maybe Blake should show some gratitude to a club that has given him a chance in first grade. And show that he is good enough . If he does that he will be worth probably a lot more money on his next contract than he is now, no matter where he goes

Six paragraphs to say what exactly?

a 'depth player' - hilarious. Our player of the season is a 'depth player'. What do you describe the rest of the first grade squad as?

I'm glad I was able to make you happy.
I would have thought it was obvious as to what I said. I'll try and make it simpler .
It means : I have a different opinion to you, not necessarily meaning that I'm right , just a different opinion. You might have noticed that there are differing ones here.
It means that just because he's your player of the year that he May not be everyone's
It means he's good , but not yet to the standard of a top first grader and may or may not get to that level ( the same goes for Moses)
It means that he has a contract for another year and seeing some of our selections this year , we need to be more careful who we release.
It means that if our full team was available and Moses has a good off season Blake may Not make the top side unless on the bench .
I did use the wrong term and think he should be in the team but on the bench to cover the positions that he does now.
It means that probably the whole story about him is another media beat up and the bottom line is that I'm sick of seeing players ( or clubs ) breaking contracts
