Todd Payten names Holden Cup team

Wests Tigers Holden Cup Coach Todd Payten has named his team to play Parramatta Eels at Parramatta Stadium on Friday, August 9.

Kick-off is 5.20pm. Gates open 5.05pm

Wests Tigers sit in sixth place on the ladder and can't afford to lose to the 14th placed Eels if they want to finish in the top four.

Wests Tigers Holden Cup Coach Todd Payten is concerned what effect the Gold Coast game had on his players leading into tomorrow’s night match against Parramatta.

“I am very mindful what effect the heat and the travel will have on my boy,’’ Payten said.

“Tuesday’s session was super light. We were only on the field for an hour and we ran through our recovery protocol.

“It only leaves us with today’s Captain’s Run so not much will change with our game plan.”

The heat certainly played its part in the win over the Titans last Sunday. With the match kicking off at 12.45pm, the warm weather certainly favoured the home side that raced out to a 22-6 lead at half-time.

A superb second half comeback saw Wests Tigers beat the Titans, such is the quality of talent Payten has at his disposal.

Payten said his men must again lift against a desperate Eels outfit.

“There is a good rivalry between a lot of players from both teams having played against each other at school and in S.G Ball and Harold Matthews competitions,’’ he said.

Victory will keep the Wests Tigers in sixth place but will keep them within reach of making the top four.
