Top 4 or Bust...

Reminds me a bit of Stevetiger,to win games you have to score more points,so attack is his mantra….unfortunately the game of rugby league is also based on solid defensive structures that teams have to learn and understand...it takes time and good defensive coaching...hopefully next year the team improves greatly in that area..

Being a Top 4 Team is all about Recruitment & Structure… We are poor in both these facets and until it improves we will be struggling to make the Top 8.

I felt one of our best structures was 2010\. That squad had a great balance of good recruitment with development of talent.

This is the roots we should be setting goals for!

Simple really - either our defence improves markedly and we are a chance of the top 8, or it doesn't and we have no hope. Taylor isn't stupid - he knows that we either make the 8 or he is gone.
So he, like everyone else, will be doing his best to ensure our defence is where it needs to be.
Time will tell.

I did a bit of searching on the net and look what I found, Mr JT himself talking about defence. Have a read please

_"Defence is number one for us because we have been really, really poor in the past. Looking at the past few seasons, we’ve conceded 110 tries last year which was last in the competition and funnily enough the year before in 2013 we conceded 120 tries which wasn’t last because Parramatta were worse but that is really, really bad. We’ve got to change that and if you want to be in the top eight in the NRL you need to get yourself up the ladder as far as the defensive performances go.

It was 2005 when Wests Tigers last won the competition and that was the last time that a team who were better in attack than defence won the competition. It has been 10 years now and we need to improve our defence. If we don’t do that we will remain at the bottom of the ladder. We can continue to work on our attack all we like, but if we don’t improve our defence we won’t get up the ladder and we need to start that right now."_

So many promises about defence, telling us it's number one. The buck stops with JT and no one else on this one.

You must have forgotten to copy and paste the part where he made the promise.

Your blind love is amazing, I have to hand it to you. You will stick solid no matter what. Not only does he tell us how bad previous tigers team were, he tells us how important defence is, how it's number 1, and how if he doesn't fix it we won't make semis. How defence is more important than attack. There you go buddy Jt's whole coachinvmantra based on defence. Tell me again how he has done defence wise during his tenure?

Oh your actually looking for the word promise lol.

Yeah i am actually, and i didn't see it anywhere. There's a difference between making a promise and setting a goal. Google it if you don't understand it.

No buddy I do understand, either you are JT or your closely related to him if you continue to deny that JT's whole mantra is about defence. So his number 1 goal was our defence and how it needs to improve and if it doesn't we don't make semis or win comps, but he didnt "promise" to fix it lol. So why was he hired. He identified a weakness, made it his number 1 goal, but he didn't promise he would fix it. So he failed before he even started.

Ummmm… the argument is that JT never made a promise to fix our defence or didn't come out and make statements saying he would fix our defence. Your friend is saying just because he identified it andg talked about it, it doesn't mean he promised to fix it, he was just stating the obvious and never had a plan to do anything about it lol.

We have improved our defence have we? Tell him again about our defence stats this year??

There's no point going back and forth as it's difficult to talk sense to a brick wall, suffice to say, if you read my reply to Ricksen, you will note i'm not defending the job JT has done so far, if you don't like it, have it. It's when people intenionaly write lies about this promise rubbish. 3 other people could see that you were clutching at straws before i even replied to you the first time, so that validetes what i am saying as far as i am concerned. Enjoy your afternoon.

I'm sure every club's goal every year is to win the premiership. So when team's don't, is that considered a broken promise? As stated earlier, nothing is certain in sport. Saying something and doing it are two very different things. Criticise Taylor for not fixing the defence so far if you like, but don't hang the guy because he wasn't scared to come in acknowlege the elephant in the room that was our defence. Something no coach in the past has bothered addressing. Which is one of the reasons we've had such little success.

If we don't make the 8 jt deserves the sack. Fair enough.
So keep cheering for losses next season fake supporters and you'll get your wish.

If you believe something that hasnt yet occured…..year after year,....wellll....

Are you a troll or just stupid, I said the club makes all these statements every year, just in the last 2 years we have had, top8 2016, top 4 2017\. JT making promises he can't keep about our defence, yet when we fail, no one says we have failed, this guy is accountable, it is always we are improving this happened that happened, how about just do it instead of fluff stories about going to do it.

Taylor never promised or guarenteed anything about our defence. He made it a goal to fix it, just like any coach worth their salt would have. Yet somehow that has been misconstrued as a promise he made, like when he got the job he put his hand on a bible and said ''i solemnly swear''. It's a blatant lie that he promised anything. He set a goal which is completely different.

I don't think you understand what a promise is.

"I guarantee out defence will get better" = promise

"We'll do terrible if we don't fix our defence." = no promise

You imbecile, we finished 2nd last in defence, only behind Newcastle who played their u/20s team. Our edge defence was the worst in the league. Yet your praising our improvement in defence attitude, do you read what you write. You would have to be the most uneducated person in rugby league I have ever come across.

I'm the dopey one lol.

I think most people can agree that our defence was pretty poor last year, but don't you think our scramble and line defence improved last year? Not being smart, genuinely curious.

You fan boys are something special.

Maybe let's go a bit slower. The clubs goals were to make top 8 this year and top 4 next year. JT says unless tigers improve our defence we will not make semis. So the 2 go hand in hand. Did our defence improve nope. Did we make semis nope. But hold on JT didn't fail because he didnt actually use the word promise when talking about defence. You guys are hilarious , this is so funny lol lol lol

But hey our attitude in defence improved, so let's high five each other. Especially against Penrith and the raiders when winning would have gotten us into semis, our attitude in defence was fantastic.

I actually do. But my point is JT did make a big hoo ha about our defence. And he had to because it's been our weakness forever. Has he succeeded absolutely not.So I think he deserves this year, yes I do. If we improvre and make semis then fair go to him, but his whole mantra has been about defence and we finished second last.

I just hope that our board don't give Jt a Christmas gift of an extended contract. IMO come rd 12 or the middle of the season should give a good sight as to where we are heading.
Hopefully as a supporter we are there and abouts and not bottom 3 or 4\. Then an extension will be warranted. I can't say we've gone backwards with Jt and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Especially if we are able to make some marquee signings for season 2018.
There is no sure fix coach I believe and to start from scratch again would have me on edge more as to have Jt around again in '18.
So I don't think it should be top 4 or bust but wait for the cream to come to the top and a great 2018 season.

If we make top four next year not only will I be astounded I think most RL supporters will be. Don't think any fans from rival clubs would have us in their top four for 2017
No fan of the coach but if he gets this squad into the top four - that would be one almighty performance IMO
