LIVE GAME Trial 2 V Roosters..

Live Game Discussion
Obviously you missed most of the game, as I thought Brooks had a great game, and the Hastings/Brooks combination went really well. Madden had some good touches in last 15 minutes. That was Madden's best effort is first grade from what i've seen, he needs to keep doing that, and I hope his defence has improved.
No mate I watched the whole game . Brooks looked disinterested and did not click at all with Hastings. When Hastings took control we looked a completely different team. It’s alarming the one eyed brooks supporters actually think he did well.

We looked a million times better when Hastings was running the show and Madden was running the ball. If Newcastle seriously are willing to pay the majority of brooks contract then there is absolutely no reason we should be keeping him here. We didn’t look like scoring when brooks was on. Hastings and madden worked so well together. It has to happen, please let him go to Newcastle.
😂 is that you Joey?

Let’s be honest Roosters were awful. So much dropped ball while missing half the team of superstars. Hastings excellent interview after the game identified this. Very level-headed.
Still, beating the Roosters is awesome, even if it was a trial.
I still think our best game last season was the Manly trial!
Anyway, good signs. Hope they reward those young guys who really were dynamic and breathe new life into this team.

That's what happens in trials mate when someone's trying to impress with limited minutes, don't dissagree but thats the reality of it.
Rua shows heaps of potential, but still has a lot to learn in regard to 1st grade NRL,but he also has time and some good coaching on his side....will be a star....
On another note did anyone hear that Liddle has to have scans for another injury, thats what I thought I heard in the commentary the other night...
maybe thats why Rua,Simpkin and even Peachey all had a crack at hooker, just an assumption though on my part...

Its a team sport , there is a game plan too execute , im not knocking Rua he has alot to like about him and he is clearly trying too get himself a top 30 spot , but last night I thought he bombed a chance by ball hogging and was hooked straight after .
Reminds me of players like Blake Austin and Masada Iosefa who could have an impact on a game at times, but were highly criticized by many for being selfish and for being ball hogs.

I'm sure there are many others but for what ever reason those 2 came to mind fairly quickly and history shows that they were moved on even though I believe that Blake Austin in particular had a lot to offer the club at the time and even though Masada Iosefa was a bit of a whipping boy on the forum, I didn't mind his occasional flashy play.

Agreed, Brooks was average. His kicking and passing was well below par however his support play was good

Hastings and Madden looked much more composed in the trial.

Win the penalty count, don't bet on it, only ba trial.
The good thing about the penalty count in that trial showed me that our team has shown much better discipline than other years....that would be a huge step in the right direction to win games....not giving ground....

I agree that Madden did really well in the trial, however I wont give up on Brooks having a very good year,he still is getting his combinations with Jacko sorted....The commentators all said it will take a bit of time for Brooks/Hastings to gel....when it does I reckon they will be great...

How good was it to actually win the penalty count? Maybe we might actually get a fair shake in that department this year 🤞
Yeah it was interesting that we won the penalty count 8-1 or 9-2 or something similar, particularly with Sutton in charge.

What impressed me was that we showed a bit of resilience to come back and win after conceding 2 early tries and many would have thought game over at that stage.

Those penalties got us out of trouble on a number of occasions and obviously helped with our time in possession that allowed us to keep pressure on their line and eventually led to points. (it did take what seemed for ever to crack it though)

What really concerns me is if that penalty count went the other way, would the heads have gone down and what that would have done to the final result.

Anyway, time will tell but definitely a few positive signs there.

Hastings looks like the general we have been looking for since Scott Prince departed. Of course early days. The intensity in defence was impressive but the conditions certainly helped, and I guess to be out numbered twice on our left side on a very wet night is a worry.

After catching a fair bit of the other games, I still think getting anywhere near the eight will be a struggle as we are still short on game breakers. Shut big Lucy down and there is not much impact left.

Anyway we will know more after the Storm game and things do look better than 2021

The commentators saw it differently, at one point they were gushing with statements like..”the roosters look really good.”

There was a hell of a lot to like about the game, commitment in defense, defensive structure, ball movement, creative ball play, etc, but keeping it simple as possible, Tamou. Finally the captain led from the front, he tackled like the game meant something to him, he put his shoulder in, instead just being there and in attack, he took on the line instead of turning his back on the defense before the ad line. This Jimmy Tamou had an immediate effect on the younger players and they followed is example. Keep it up Jim.

With Tamou missing round 1 he probably will start.
The more game time he gets the better he is looking.
If we get Friday night's version of Tamou more often I would be happy for him to be remaining in the side and starting upon return for the second round. If not, the bit of mongrel that Musgrove can provide would be my preference to open matches with alongside the ute.
