It’s a massive deal in junior rugby. Rugby doesnt begin to tackle until U8s and then there is a lot of effort to train good tackle techniques. League kids are playing tackle from u6s

I know of a lot of families who would never let their children play rugby league due to it being too rough and head knocks are part of that.

NRL have to take a stand on head and neck contact now. The game is still tough. Even without the punching, stiff arms and spear tackles. Just part of the evolution of becoming professional.

And that's fine, there are always the cotton wool parents. The same parents who don't allow their kids to climb trees .

How do sports like boxing and UFC survive? The goal of those sports is to inflict brain damage.

Most Real combat sports are taken on by teenagers or adults who make the decision for themselves as apposed to parents.

As a parent often I volunteered groundwork bbq sideline duties etc.
The parents back then were concerned about the up to 50 kg difference between the same age kids and the injuries from the disproportionate weights.
The other concern was the parents behaviour at the grounds, swearing encouraging violence and parents fighting on the sidelines.
Parents have been taking their kids away not one I spoke with had ever mentioned head knocks.
At the same time I also volunteered at Toongabbie demons soccer club. Soccer had already implemented strict behavioural guidelines for players coaches parents and fans. Last week a brutal gang attack on a father in Brisbane on the footy field, last year stabbing at wenty leagues Ringrose . There are dozens more unreported by media .
There is also the fact a soccer player can make in a season more than the league's entire salary cap.
Fantastic initiative to stamp out the head knocks concussion .
But don't just make up ur own bs facts and figures.
Anyone know anyone that has removed a child or opted for soccer due to vlandys claims ?

bit of a difference between falling out of a tree once and breaking a bone or getting knocked out and playing junior footy without proper tackle technique and getting continual head knocks
my 2 year old runs around, eats dirt etc without me or my wife stopping him, but i have no interest in signing him up to junior nrl and when the time comes to it he probably will play soccer due to the OPs points

A brilliant summary of the "genuine" issues throughout rugby league and why it may deter parents. Yes, Vlandys is delusional ....... and dictatorial, blinkered, egomaniacal, autocratic, stubborn, thugish and bullying, with unfettered power to turn a thought bubble into rule changes. He is better suited to leading the CCP than the NRL.
Peter Vlandys, will be remembered as the great destroyer of rugby league as we knew it.
