Wests merging with Canberra?

It's been mentioned over on LU and a couple of other forums that Wests are apparently looking to merge their state cup side with Canberra.
Merge, feeder, whatever the relationship is, it's apparently due to the long touted plan to have a single WT state cup side. In this case Balmain would be that side.

If this is indeed all true the Wests board should be ashamed. Yes, it would be great to have both sides running around but merging with Canberra?

why would balmain be the wests tigers feeder club instead of western suburbs then

wests have more juniors and are actually funding their own side so it would be better for the joint venture if western suburbs was the wt feeder team. you know it's true.

going off what's been posted on the magpies forum, it seems Wests just want to keep their identity.
I have a lot of respect for the Wests management team, but this just seems loony!

Because balmain > wests

Nah in all honesty i have no idea. Even as a balmain fan i dont like the idea. My first preference is that they compete as balmain AND wests and if not then they should merge together.

good we should keep our identity. im sure they would want to be wests tigers feeder club

One thing - compared to balmain, the geographics make much more sense if wests are the feeder club for canberra…

Awesome news….

following a football team isnt meant to be this complicated. why does everything in my life have to be complicated

Aren't West getting much joy or say in what goes on at the Wests Tigers? Having a little dummy spit hey?

The sooner the Wests Tigers can be 100% self funded the better…

Interesting days ahead!!!

Am I missing something.

Why would we let promising youngsters get used to living in Canberra.

Leave them in Sydney with only one choice >> Wests Tigers

None of this makes any sense to me. I'm not in the know, so have limited knowledge of the politics.
So, someone explain this to me like i'm a 4 year old. If Wests want to keep their identity, why the hell would they merge with Canberra? doesn't this defeat the primary perpose of not merging with Balmain?

I for one will be very disappointed with Wests if they move there support to Canberra. Like Kul pointed out, if this is true, it's truely loony stuff and a real low.

How about following the wests tigers knowing wests have the support somewhere else. This is all crazy stuff and i hope it's all bollocks.

This topic is always surrounded with rumour and conjecture.

The reality is that until it happens nothing is confirmed

theres nothing mention of this on the raiders forum know as the "greenhouse" so they obviously havnt heard anything

There was talk about this last year, and the year before. The rumour was that Canberra would send their over age players not playing FG (or Toyota obviously) to Wests for the State Cup because they couldn't afford to run their own team in that grade. Then they went to QLD Cup with Souths Logan last season? I'd say the rumour comes as they're no longer allowed to play QLD Cup?

So not a merger per se, more so giving Canberra players a game in State Cup when not needed by FG. They'd still be contracted to Canberra; not Wests nor the Tigers.

Either way, it's BS.

No agreement with Canberra exists. No idea why this keeps been raised every year. Probably another pot shot from the inlaws at Wests.

From what I have heard two State Cup sides again in 2011\. - BRET will no longer exist, - Wests Tigers will field a team and get all the "NRL" contracted players, - Wests Magpies will field a team on a lower budget (not sure how long they can survive though).
