Gus replied to a tweet asking if he knew anything. He replied "I doubt Cleary is going to the Dogs". Someone replied asking what made him sure, he said "I asked the right bloke".
I don't see Toovey as being a good coach. He's a Manly legend, that took over a stable team with some great clubmen… Stewart brothers, Lyon, Matai, DCE, Foran, Ballin, Watmough... that's an awesome core squad to take over. Yes, he got the Eagles to a GF, prelim, and another final series, but that was on the back of those players I've just mentioned.
I don't think Toovey would be a good coach at any other club. He's a better version of Brad Fittler as a coach... remember Fittler took the Roosters to a top 4 spot (2008 I think it was), got the sack even though he was a club legend, and never coached in the NRL again.
I'm not saying Toovey would be as bad as Freddy, but I don't think he's a good option for us.

If Cleary goes to Dogs, I am not convinced that we would get Des, he might take the rest of the year off and look for a job opening for next year. I am not convinced Toovey can coach, he inherited a terrific roster that you would expect to always be contenders.
If you take these guys out of the options, there is not a lot around. Is either a rookie or a reject

Panic attacks over an Ali rumour?? Calm down everyone, his info is highly unlikely. All the journos are having a field day with this stuff, but it's all just speculation. Even if it turned out to be true, it's not the end of the world, as I think we will go after Toovey and he would be a better option than Cleary anyway, imo.
