WESTS TIGERS - COACH IVAN CLEARY..OFFICIAL

I'd be extremely disappointed if Andrew Webster wasn't at least appointed assistant coach. He has held that position for two years now at the Warriors and has already coached Moses and Brooks to an under 18's grand final win, so those two at least would be on side. Webster is already in place and has to be better than Taylor was, so I'd be happy to let him see out the season, but it ain't going to happen.

Maybe Cleary is also working out his coaching staff too ? Seems like Stringer is not too happy with the sacking along a few of the players.

Not sure how to paste the full article from the phone hence the link only.

If they are decided that it is Cleary then I don't understand why he isn't announced asap.

My view exactly

Because he clearly hasn't signed on yet or formalised the contract. Have you ever hired anyone? Tigers sacked JT 7 business days ago and they are looking to hire a senior member of team management, it doesn't happen with a snap of the fingers.

Even if they sounded out Cleary some time ago and he in principle agreed, you still have to work out the details and get him to sign on.

To rush this would be stupid, rushing of contracts only gets an organisation in trouble. And for what, 2 rounds of football with a qualified and respected assistant coach, we can't cop that?

If Cleary is still listening to Gus Gould he will be sitting back waiting for that telephone call with a better offer:

I hope Cleary signs up because he wants to be here and likes a challenge, not because he has no other choice at present. It wouldn't be hard to find a hungry coach on the rise who really wants the job.

Oh I BET Cleary spends all his spare time taking advice from Gus Gould. Nothing better than being told what to do by the person that fired you last time around.

Gus is probably concerned Ivan wont be getting much sleep and take it out on his son…

If Cleary isn't the new coach or the Tigers have not yet decided then so be it, but if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck then just bloody admit that it's a duck and we can quit with the speculation. Cleary can get to work at Concord without being conspicuous and the players, fans and sponsors can cease feeling like they are suspended in a state of limbo.

FYI I have hired hundreds of people and when we terminate key employees it is ALWAYS with a clear succession plan/handover process in place. Call me impatient, but how much more so should this be in place with WT.

Someone correct me if i am wrong, but lets say we announce Cleary Monday, how do we expect him to coach against the Cows? Would he not have to come in and build a rapport with the players before barking orders at them?

You're right, so he would probably rely on Andrew Webster running the team initially until he has time to assess the current playing roster re strengths and weaknesses (plenty of these), defensive structures (if any in our case) etc etc.

Maybe hed want his own team of assistants?

I hope he brings a new fitness coach with him.

Exactly right bigsiro - first sign up a new coach then sack the old one and tell the players to either commit or walk. Job done, and only then do you have the media conference instead of the wishy-washy rubbish they dished out.

Tigers have a succession plan and they've made some of it public - hiring board reviews candidates, makes recommendation to Board, Board rubber-stamps and a contract is negotiated. 7 business days it's been, 7!!! The rest of it we have no idea, it could be very reasonable that Tigers already spoke to and half worked-out a deal with Cleary even before JT was axed.

You aren't expecting some kind of handover from JT are you? Cut the bloke and then expect him to show up to fill in some forms, introduce Ivan to key customers? So there's no handover process, we can guess that much.

But this isn't like a normal business, nobody is snooping around my company leaking bits and pieces of info.

Tell me honestly how can Cleary inconspicuously start work at Concord? The press will be camped there all day to catch him. The minute Cleary signs or walks out of the offices they'll catch him doing it.

Give the club the due time to work this out and stop letting the media work your frenzy. Your hand shouldn't be forced by media pressure and speculation, do the process properly and take your time.

Coaches contracts are like players contracts..there is a cooling off period with a get out of jail for free card. So maybe we are just waiting to its set in concrete.

I just hope if he has signed he gets on the blower and has a chat to a few players from within and from outside the club

What do you base this comment on? The cooling off exception for player contract comes under the NRL playing contract registration rules. Im not aware of a similar process or exception for coaches.

Well the more I think of it I would much rather a D Hasler type coach over that of I Cleary. Even if we look at S Folkes, he when at our club had our defence looking brilliant to what it is today. Maybe an older coach is what makes wests tigers tick ie T Sheens era.

Get the players fit , you can't do that , it's in their contracts

Next thing you'll be expecting them to have 95 % tackle completions

Your way too hard on our princesses …..

I just found something interesting about the squad that the Panthers had before and after Cleary took over.

In 2011, the Panthers finished 12th. They had Michael Gordon, Lachlan Coote, Luke Lewis, Petro Civoniceva, Tim Grant, Michael Jennings, Joseph Paulo and Nigel Plum all at the club.

In 2014, they finished 2nd and made it to the preliminary final. The only players from the ones mentioned they kept were, Tim Grant and Nigel Plum. Just thought that was interesting.

Also, Tim Grant played State of Origin for the first time in 2012, the first year that Cleary coached the Panthers.

Hasler has a 2 year extension confirmed Dogs board meeting tonight. This may speed up Cleary they have te same manager.
