@ said:If Cleary is still listening to Gus Gould he will be sitting back waiting for that telephone call with a better offer:

I hope Cleary signs up because he wants to be here and likes a challenge, not because he has no other choice at present. It wouldn't be hard to find a hungry coach on the rise who really wants the job.

Because he clearly hasn't signed on yet or formalised the contract. Have you ever hired anyone? Tigers sacked JT 7 business days ago and they are looking to hire a senior member of team management, it doesn't happen with a snap of the fingers.
Even if they sounded out Cleary some time ago and he in principle agreed, you still have to work out the details and get him to sign on.
To rush this would be stupid, rushing of contracts only gets an organisation in trouble. And for what, 2 rounds of football with a qualified and respected assistant coach, we can't cop that?
@ said:@ said:@ said:Someone correct me if i am wrong, but lets say we announce Cleary Monday, how do we expect him to coach against the Cows? Would he not have to come in and build a rapport with the players before barking orders at them?
You're right, so he would probably rely on Andrew Webster running the team initially until he has time to assess the current playing roster re strengths and weaknesses (plenty of these), defensive structures (if any in our case) etc etc.
Maybe hed want his own team of assistants?
@ said:If Cleary isn't the new coach or the Tigers have not yet decided then so be it, but if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck then just bloody admit that it's a duck and we can quit with the speculation. Cleary can get to work at Concord without being conspicuous and the players, fans and sponsors can cease feeling like they are suspended in a state of limbo.
FYI I have hired hundreds of people and when we terminate key employees it is ALWAYS with a clear succession plan/handover process in place. Call me impatient, but how much more so should this be in place with WT.
@ said:Coaches contracts are like players contracts..there is a cooling off period with a get out of jail for free card.

I hope he brings a new fitness coach with him.
@ said:I just found something interesting about the squad that the Panthers had before and after Cleary took over.
In 2011, the Panthers finished 12th. They had Michael Gordon, Lachlan Coote, Luke Lewis, Petro Civoniceva, Tim Grant, Michael Jennings, Joseph Paulo and Nigel Plum all at the club.
In 2014, they finished 2nd and made it to the preliminary final. The only players from the ones mentioned they kept were, Tim Grant and Nigel Plum. Just thought that was interesting.
Also, Tim Grant played State of Origin for the first time in 2012, the first year that Cleary coached the Panthers.
