Wests Tigers incensed over Ryan James charge for James Tedesco hit

It's a circus… High tackles only warrant a penalty now it seems. Was a waste of time even going to the judiciary... Simona getting 3 weeks in comparison is laughable... Why would parents want their kids playing a sport where breaking the jaw of an opponent with a swinging arm is acceptable behaviour... This in conjunction with the inconsistent refereeing / bunker and the NRL looks like a backyard operation... Time to have a good look at the game Todd Greenberg as it is becoming a joke...

On a side note, things are certainly going Gold Coast's way at the moment...

I heard about this decision earlier tonight and on my way home from work heard 2 kids probably 15-16 years old talking about it. Whether or not they were talking tough but they working out a plan to break some kids jaw in their game on the weekend. One kid said ' We won't win if he plays so we have to take him out'. They were talking about one guy tackling him and the other guy coming in with a swing arm and if they were caught claiming that the kid was falling. Now as i say they may have been talking tough but the Ryan James debacle has opened up a can of worms for the NRL and for kids to be thinking this way isn't good at all. We all know that what they see on telly they think they can do and get away with and now the NRL has just given them more ammunition.

What a disgraceful turn of events that you can brush past a referee and get a week but break someones jaw and you get a slap on the wrist. The Judiciary has lost me and if Greenberg doesn't do something his head would have to be on the chopping block.

Unfortunately it does make you wonder…

They only applied for a downgrade after being prompted by the judiciary member. This is not incompetence. Its prejudiced and corrupt ie rigged.
Don't complain to toddy . He's the puppeteer.

From memory the penalty we got from the broken jaw was an off side one otherwise it would be even crazier.

Haha, Tedesco found guilty of a head butt on alleged forearm.Ryan James free to rejoin the Hayne plane.

Makes you wish the nrl owned ya footy club

Where is Greenberg the slimy little nitwit? Have barely seen his shiny devon head since the day he got the job.
We need well-respected and big names in our sport (Gould, Sterlo etc) to come out and question the legitimacy and moreso the integrity of the NRL heirachy in this issue and many others.
Junior numbers will also drop off hopefully. Absolutely loved rugby league for years but the NRL these days is a cesspool of shady, untrustworthy leaders and disgusting agendas and bias. What a dump of an organisation it's become.

Firstly, what is the judiciary doing telling the Titans to contest the grading? Surely some questions need to be asked about this.

Secondly, why is it that the judiciary have basically ruled that if you lift a player, you will pay the price if the player ends up on his head even if there were other factors at play, but they have not done the same with a swinging arm. Surely if you go in with a swinging arm and other factors (such as a player dropping, which I don't think was that dramatic in this instance) result in the player being hit in the head, then you should be punished for the swinging arm???

Gold Coast forward Ryan James has been found guilty of a high tackle on Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco, but has escaped suspension after successfully arguing for a downgrade.

In bizarre scenes on Wednesday night at the NRL judiciary at Rugby League Central, James was found guilty of a grade-two careless high tackle which broke Tedesco's jaw in the Titans' win on Saturday at Campbelltown.

However, James' defence counsel Jim Hall then argued for a downgrade, but only after the prompting of panel member Royce Ayliffe.

"Hang on - we have only found him guilty," Ayliffe said after the verdict was read out by fellow panel member Mal Cochrane.

The panel of Ayliffe, Cochrane and Chris McKenna then promptly awarded the downgrade, meaning James is free to play in the Titans' round-24 clash with Newcastle on Saturday at Hunter Stadium.

James, who is one of the NRL's most-penalised players, has 90 carryover points to contend with.

Titans coach Neil Henry, who sat next to James throughout the hearing, spoke on behalf of his prop after the hearing.

"We came down here, thinking the speed at which it happened (meant) it wasn't a careless action by Ryan," Henry said.

"The judiciary said it was on the lower end of carelessness. They took into account how fast the action happened and the fact Tedesco was dropping.

"We had a fair hearing. We're disappointed in one regard. But the speed these things can happen at in the game means there was no malice on Ryan's behalf."

In giving evidence, James said he didn't have time to adjust to Tedesco "dropping in the tackle".

"I was running and trying to catch him in the tackle and run him back a little further," James said.

"I dropped my body level … I couldn't have done anything else to avoid collision."

However, James said he did take his eyes off Tedesco just before impact.

Judiciary prosecutor Peter McGrath seized on that as an admission of carelessness.

"In the context of a rugby league game player, Tedesco did not drop dramatically," he said.

"Taking his eyes off player Tedesco is where the carelessness lies.

"Player James did not show the special duty of care required to avoid contact with the head.

"The contact was not accidental. It was not unavoidable."

Defence counsel Jim Hall said the contact was accidental.

"I would suggest player James didn't have the time to change his tackle after player Tedesco turned and dropped."

What a load of crap !
Tedesco dropped cause he knew he was about to get belted ….
And still got belted !

The NRL stepped in to protect kickers by making it illegal to tackle their legs after they kick. I think they need to step in and protect fullbacks who are so courageous yet have to sit their like lame ducks and take dog hits. Instead of sending out a message that the onus is on the chaser not to make contact with the fullback , they have done the complete opposite. what a joke!!!!

What an absolute disgrace

Dead set grub got away with it

Over the NRL and it's pathetic running of the game

Love my Tigers to death but these dimwits running the game, Hope it crashes and burns on them.

Now I wonder why the judicary have come up with this decision? Would not have anything to do with ensuring the Titans make the 8 so the Hayne Plane circus can continue and they can cash in on all the hype? Would not surprise me to see the Titans receive "favourable" refereeing for final rounds.

How many weeks did O'Donnell get for breaking Monaghan's jaw? He didn't mean that either, but it happened.

This game is run by idiots pandering to the media, they are so transparent in their agendas it is laughable. I put it to you, if Jarryd Hayne in his second game back, stood his ground under a high ball and collected a swinging arm from a tigers player and received a broken jaw, what would you read in the press and what would be the result at the judiciary. Completely the opposite to what has gone on this week. Lets get over it and get on with it, first win these next 3 games. Will be interesting to see how the titans go in the finals, the league desperately needs them to be successful and marketable due to the huge AFL following in Qld now.

This is just another in a long list of nails in the games coffin for me. I hate the game these days. The only thing keeping me in is that its hard to cut something that has been in grown in me since the day i was born. However ditching this low sport due to how its run is getting closer and closer. I have tried a few times to change the channel only to listen to whinging from missus and kids so had to keep the footy on. So thats another hurdle i have to get over before i can be relieved of the pain that is rugby league 2016, convincing the family we are better off watching grass grow than this crap. The time will come though, and i hope the game dies a slow death so we all can feel the great relief from this administration.

Hopefully James continues his usual form, gets charged again and misses out on any finals if they make it.
