Wests Tigers Jerseys

I didnt like the jersey but i understand why they wore it.Fairs fair but maybe they shouldve have wore it on a home game cause surely they would have sold alot more merchandise.

Oh and gobbs Wests didnt forgo anything they were kicked out of the league then Balmain through them a lifeline.but yes the lower clubs were forced to merge or die.Not starting but just stating a fact.

Last time I checked, both Balmain and Western Suburbs had to forgo their history and tradition in the elite level. North Sydney and South Sydney were the only clubs to be expelled from the 2000 NRL Season with the Bears going into administration in the middle of the '99 season and the Rabbitohs were told they failed to make News Ltd.'s criteria. Western Suburbs were not kicked out, they opted for a Joint Venture arrangement to ensure the Football club survived well into the future and Rugby League in the South-West corridor of Sydney remained intact. 11 years on, both Balmain and Western Suburbs Football club's are alive and kicking thanks to one another. Just wanting to state a fact

Maybe a history lesson is in order for you…

That's a lot closer to the truth!! Fact is, at the time the (football club) votes went through nobody was sure if Balmain would make the cut off (as it turned out I think we came in ahead of Penrith, Wests, and the excluded clubs - Norths and Souths). In any case it was pretty much accepted that without a JV we could probably survive but we'd never have the money to compete with the bigger clubs (in other words we'd be like Cronulla now).

To suggest Balmain "saved" Wests is (as I said above) not an accurate or fair appraisal of the situation.

We DO have too many jerseys !!!!!!

In 30years time what will we look back on as our traditional Wests Tigers Jersey ? ?

I agree Phantom.

I hope that by our clubs 20th anniversary our heritage round jersey is the one we wore in our maiden premiership victory in 2005.
To any child under the age of 12 the words "Balmain" and "Magpie" mean nothing to them in regards to our first grade team. Its all about the Wests Tigers. Its sad but its reality.

Not everyone is under 12\. And besides the whole idea of heritage round is to celebrate the history of clubs. I'd hate to think the heritage of Balmain and Wests was completely forgotten about. We're talking two weeks a year for something that gives a lot of joy to long time supporters. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Our first ever jumpers that we wore from 2000-02 were fairly amateurish and resembled the Melbourne Storms jumper too much, 2003-04 were a bit of an improvement but 2005-07 pretty much nailed it as for being the most original.
Actually I would have no problem if our heritage jumpers from 2008-09 were our home and away strip right now, both had Vee's, the current Heritage jerseys would have served more purpose for the 2008 Centenary season than 2010.

Well said

As they discussed on the Sunday Roast … we're a confused team ... too many jerseys, too many home grounds.

Last year we had 5 jerseys!!!

I actually quite liked the white 10 year jersey. Although I wouldnt mind seeing the 2010 Balmain heritage as our main strip and the 2010 Magpies heritage as our away strip.

At least all our jumpers are variations on the same basic three colours. Penrith have what 4 jumpers that seem to bear no relatioship with any of the others. How do they get teal as their alternate jumper???

No of course not everyone is under 12\. The point im trying to make is that how relevant are the Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies to the whole Wests Tigers fan base? and what about in the next 5, 10, 20, 40, 50 years??
Surely it gets to a stage where the Wests Tigers will be celebrated as a single club rather than a merged identity. I guess i just get frustrated thats there is still so much wests v balmain rubbish between older fans.

Well when we get to the stage it stops being relevant to a significant amount of people then they can stop it. You're frustrated okay but to ignore Balmain and the Magpies would alienate a lot of people. You can't just pretend the club was created out of nowhere in 1999-2000 and write anything before that out of history.

Haha yeah I was gonna say that … It's so ridiculous!

Personally, I hate our current jerseys. Wayyyyyyyyyy too plain and boring.

Funny thing about Penrith with their blue jumper, the Penrith side prior to being admitted to the NSWRL in 1967 wore blue jumpers it's just that Cronulla beat them to the punch when advising the League what colours they would use.
So the Panther were forced to find an alternate and failed miserably with the Chocolate Soldier strip, it wasn't until they moved away from that jersey to a predominantly Black Jersey that everything clicked for them.
The blue jumper of theirs was very close to the Cronulla jersey, I think that John Lang must have had a hand in the design while their heritage brown jumper is OK but too dark to be compared to the original.

Teal is a stand out colour.

It has worked for the Port Adelaide Power since they came into the AFL, and their current strip is the best in the AFL.

According to you anyway…

We as a club will never move forward while there are these Tigers/Magpie factions. We MUST look at ourselves as a new entity and not forget the past but look to the future and stop the infighting between the 2.

We are Wests Tigers, not Balmain nor the Magpies. Get over it and move on or move away.

Your son plays Rugby League in a jersey with a balmain Tiger on it, and the senior team in his district is the Wests Tigers, the past is also the present yet some dont even realise it.

Jen Taylor sent on the reply she got from the sunday roast to me. Seems they really are ignorant.
\

I had to turn off your show in disgust last weekend when you baboons didn't have enough intelligence between you to know the Wests Tigers black and white jersey was honouring the Wests Magpies. To even suggest it was a jersey from Wenty Leagues!!! I think you should all have to wear retro Wests Magpies jerseys for the entirety of your next show!

Totally incorrect Jen,

The club have Wests Magpies strips, which they do wear, that are available for the public to purchase and what they wore on Friday night isn't one of them.
