The thing is about this team, although it looks good, there are 3 players in the squad that remain unknowns…eg

Idris ..how will he come back and be an 80 minute player as intense as he was ?
McIllrick..will he be an excellent NRL standard hooker playing 80 ?
Moses Suli..Rookie,unproven at NRL,big contracts don't always make them big players,he may need time..

Taylor has to me picked a very good team...I know,I know Rankin,JT must have reasons why he has JR in the side, and yes bring on the car washing etc,etc..Taylor is looking to win games and make this team a competitive one week in week out...CONSISTENCY is the key word,Taylor also has to find out how this team works as a unit on game day not just in preseason or in trials,so if there are changes during the next couple of weeks barring injury, then he will get a guide on how he can get the best out of the players available...
I will back Taylor to produce some great results this year and the one thing I will say is that JT will do the best for the team and club,he has always been true to his convictions, and taken responsibility for his decisions..
I will see how we are going by round 6 and then reassess my view....best of luck to all concerned during 2017,may the injuries by less and the wins enormous.... :supporter:

It's still better to chuck players in the arena in round 1 while everyone else is still pretty rusty. Hence why I'd have Suli playing for sure

I was just starting to get excited again about another season approaching, but I have given myself a reality check. It seems Taylor wants to play the year with the same cattle, hence same result. I won't be surprised if Rankin is picked every game, be it fullback, winger or bench player. I feel for form players like Chee Kam, I fear once Lovett is available again, we won't see Chee Kam in the NRL barring a catastrophic run of injuries.

Even if Rankin plays ahead of Suli this week, it won't be because the Taylor is playing favourites. I don't even know how that thought process is even possible considering they just re-signed Suli on a million deal. But their keeping him out of first grade because JT rates Rankin more highly? Sounds legit 😕

But in my mind if correct that is the problem. Our coach rates rankin above Suli.

If the coach rates Rankin higher than Suli then it looks like Rankin will be getting a contract worth over a million dollars next year.

I would hope not, but i was referring to your comment that JT rates Rankin more highly. If correct that would make JT a poor judge and i agree that JT wouldn't be playing favourites.

Im hoping that the selection of rankin (if confirmed tomorrow) is only a stop gap to cover a hooking role as well as a kicker.

I would like to think that even the most one eyed Taylor hater wouldn't be delusional enough to believe he rates Rankin more highly than Suli.

Well i guess final team selections will reveal all. If as predicted Suli swaps with Rankin then JT has it spot on. I imagine Rankin being a utility on the bench that will give mcwillrick a spell. However if Rankin does stay on the wing at the expense of Suli then even the most one eyed Taylor supporters will have to call it as it is.

Not at all. It just means that they aren't ready to pull the trigger on him yet. As i said earlier, if you believe Rankin being named ahead of Suli constitutes that Taylor prefers Rankin then i guess Rankin will get a contract even fatter than Suli's next year. Would you agree?

I know the forum is split about JT, but he has failed every test so far, so I guess he needs to be around the top 6 by round 10 , or we have again wasted another season on a useless coach. I will put it right out there I think he is not a coaches a**** hole, but I will give him to round 10, before a really start calling for his head. but this will change if he brings Lovett back into the side after his ban, having rankin is bad enough without him been there.

Sorry cant agree with you on that one, even though lately i have agreed with you on alot of things. JT picks the team and coaches it, its Pascoe's job to work out salary and contracts.

Suli has to be in the team. Rankin as a winger offers nothing, whether its defence or attack. Rankin at best is a utility player coming of the bench. We cannot have a slow, soft winger in our team, and thats why he cannot be named.

I agree Rankin shouldn't be there, but if he is, there is a method behind it. He's clearly just a placeholder till they feel Suli is ready. Because no way Noffa, Idris or Kev will make way for him.

Ok bp,the tests he has failed are your personal tests or the clubs KPIs?? so far he has had a very demanding job to do with salary cap issues, player issues no money to recruit and a very ordinary amount of depth within the roster…and he still has the backing of the board and has this year left on his contract..its called giving the bloke a chance to prove what he can do when all is right or nearly right...and what qualifies you to tell everyone he is not a coaches Ahole...

ET said in an interview on WT web page "that I thing there will be some players making their debut for the club"
1 Jamal
2 Moses Suli???

I doubt that is a hint at Suli. He's probably talking about Idris and McIlwrick.

Have all these people ranking Suli above Rankin actually seen him play? For a bloke whos only played 2 under 20s games there seems to be a lot of fans that know his game back to front.

Why would a coach want to give a player more than his market value? Maybe Taylor thinks something like "ha ha look at all these fool clubs that don't realise Jordan Rankin is the next immortal and are letting us sign him for this bargain rate".

I think we are still waiting for your glowing report after we beat the Cowboys last year to confirm your thoughts…..

My assessment of Suli is based on comments made by people who have a better and closer eye on the game than me. The fact that clubs were chasing him and we paid big coin for him. Which suggests he has ability and potential.
I only saw his game in the trial and for my mind it was a solid display. i have said that JR is as good as he is going to get, may have a standout game here and there but nothing more.

With Suli you have so much more to look forward too and he will get better is a bigger stature and is faster.

Why run rankin when you can blood this kid.

I've seem him play quite a few times at centre. From memory, players such as Darius Boyd, Karmichael Hunt and Jordan Kahu (bad luck with injury) made their debuts in first grade at a young age after having played few lower grade games, It is a very exciting time and I hope we see at one least one more debut in the outside backs this year. We need some size and pace on the wings and I hope Suli shifts to right centre which is his position.

I believe BP by round six JT's future should be determined. If the Board is savvy, there should be a replacement in situ to take over so the year is not wasted.

I'm looking forward to him debuting aswell. But i think the coaching staff have a better idea to when that should happen compared to someone who hasn't seen him play.

He offered more than Rankin in both trials. He's big and strong and a handful in attack, but more importantly he made some good defensive reads. Yes, much better than Rankin and he'll improve a lot more yet.

For sure the coaching staff will decide and they are better placed, but it doesn't mean they make the right decisions all the time. I guess time will tell.
