Geez. Its like the record( big piece of black vinyl that plays music for the youngins) is stuck at this time every year. I will say the same thing I say at this time year after year, it’s a bloody TRIAL!!!! Wait until competition proper before panicking.

I understand what your saying ...but you have players playing for their positions , contracts ....maybe their careers ......

A lot of concerns out of tonight's game ...Madge has a heap of work to turn that performance around

Yes, it was a trial for the other team as well, but they showed up.

**Some people are comfortably 9th**.
Majority of us won't settle for this mediocrity.
Time to crack the whip.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

 Hows the ladder sitting after this weekends trials.

Are u gonna try and have a dig at me ?

Once again the loser brigade are happy with a loss.

Every game is a game we should aim to win.

"It's just a trial. It's just the nines."

Maybe some of yas are so use to being losers that u don't even care about the results.

Not me and @Milky tho.
We're out here to win the big prizes and take the prom queen home.

If you're happy coming 9th and losing games please join @Furious1 in the loser corner.

If we perform like that most weeks 9th will be a miracle

Well let’s hope our team isn’t packed with Flegg players like it was last night ?

Which still leads to my next question ...we probably fielded the weakest squad of all 16 sides bar the teams with heavy All Star involvement

So have the 15 other clubs got it wrong or do we have it right .....

This is code for “my irrational rant has been debunked, now I’m forced to pivot and complain about something else”

Scolari is underwhelming after all the hype about him. Another tiny winger, and not that fast.

What a stupid comment! I watched the game on the live stream and you only had to listen to the commentators after he wasn’t passed the ball with line wide open not once but TWICE (one by a development player the second time mind you) and could not get the ball. That can happen in trials when others are trying to impress and go themselves.

If you watched the tape he only touched the ball from a high ball which he took well. Almost saved a try when he flipped Naden over on the try line after Talau went down on the short side. He basically had only 18 minutes on the field when Panthers had 90% of the ball with penalties so how you could say he was slow is ridiculous. I also suggest you take a look at club stats and watch highlights from games from last year.

Dillon showed good speed - query over high ball - needs to work on that and his passing. Madden very good. Cini solid without being spectacular.

Give these kids a break - comments like that doesn’t help. They’ll go back to CC and Flegg and learn their trade - I would say reserve your criticism if by mid season they are not performing.

Looks like I hit a nerve. Why is scolari immune to criticism but it’s okay for others?

Not bagging him, not his fault people are hyping him up on here. Most of the young players we put out there were out of their depth and are barely CC level at this stage of their development.

Back to Scolari, his lack of size means he’s way behind the eightball to begin with so he’s going to need the speed of addo-Carr. I didn’t see that speed.

This isn't the 9's it is the 2nd last chance to get it right before Rd 1

We will have 2 new players in our spine and multiple changes to our backline

I would have thought to be testing our new recruits in game time conditions is crucial and having them build some combinations before Rd 1 even more crucial

Add to the fact Douehi has been here for what 3 weeks

We aren't the Roosters or Melbourne and afford a slow start to the season ....we will need to win every winnable game

Maybe it's old school , but your best 17 should be playing at least 75% of the game imo and you give 20 minutes to some of the players who might be a chance of pushing for a NRL spot

Becoming like cricket ....don't want to overload the poor preciouses /princesses

Ummmm....haven't we started the past few seasons with back to back and even back wins..despite what happened in trails..

Maybe you have gone back to sooking for nothing..

First thing about these trials that I think a lot of folks seem to forget is it is not true match conditions. Some of these boys are able to run on and off at the coach's leisure and it's not a proper test of forwards conditioning.

Last year we got steamrolled by the Warriors in the trial then smashed them in Rd 2. So when it comes to forwards, I mostly look at individual efforts rather than who is winning the ruck, because if they run on a whole bunch of fresh guys or you have mostly kids on there, then of course there is an imbalance.

Out wide, different sort of issue, with blokes who have never played together being asked to defend for significant periods. Obviously Penrith were quite successful out wide, but I saw Naden, Whare, Mansour, To'o all running around, also Luai, Tyrone May and Burton - that's basically their starting backline minus the injured Smith and rested Cleary.

So it's unfortunate that Penrith found a lot of gaps and space out wide, but again we did not put a single tested first grader in 2-5, nor do they have previous experience playing together, so it's not surprising that they were disjointed in defence.

Again you have to look at the individual performances. I agree Talau was struggling to make his tackles; not good reads at all. Musgrove clearly a step above any other forward out there. The other senior forwards did well early with managing the ruck and making their tackles - Clark, Hooth.

Matheson Johns was a handful and great legs pumping a la Brandon Smith; hard to tell if he got any real centre ball and was mostly used in early hit-ups like a backrower.

Billy Walters will clearly be hooker Rd 1 unless Maguire chooses Mbye, because his passing is in another galaxy compared to JRey. Good smart little footballer Walters, there's a lot to like, he can kick and he defends energetically.

Quality post mate!

That is rubbish! I don't want our key players playing anymore than 1 trial game. Last night was a cc trial for us pure and simple, we included a couple of NRL players that we thought needed an extra run!

Yep and as usual we ignore what many others NRL sides did with their trial games and dance to the beat of our own drums

What's that definition of insanity ......

Seriously? Both Brisbane and Gold Coast lost to second string sides lets do that!

I thought you were intelligent .....what the difference between many and all ....

Its funny ...I bring this same argument virtually every season and we get have for the last 3/4 from seasons got the same result .....9th and B/ no finals ...but your opinion is right along with the others who argue this point

Says more about your opinions than mine I'd reckon

I understand what your saying ...but you have players playing for their positions , contracts ....maybe their careers ......

A lot of concerns out of tonight's game ...Madge has a heap of work to turn that performance around

Yes, it was a trial for the other team as well, but they showed up.

**Some people are comfortably 9th**.
Majority of us won't settle for this mediocrity.
Time to crack the whip.

After our last trial in 2005 we were predicted to win the wooden spoon. I f you do a little research I think you will find trial results have very impact on who makes the finals.

I do understand the difference between all and many but you also used the term that we danced to the beat of our own drum by not taking the trial seriously. Well we obviously didn't dance to the beat of our own drum because 2 teams took them so easy they lost to lower level teams!

I'm a bit worried the club thinks like this as well....it worked in 2005. We won lotto with a very young team in 2005. We wasted it in the following years but let buy a ticket hoping we win it again

Was exactly the same comment I made earlier GNR

That had nothing to do with our trial fork though, just like our trial form means nothing for where we finish in 2020!

So what did Walters actually create …sfa …the only try was created by Douehi

He created good go-forward. I was not expecting him to be single-handedly setting up try assists, especially without the first-choice halves on the field. A few good runs, a few good kicks, generally good passing. We all know it's stop-gap measurements at hooker at the moment, and I was pretty happy with that as a stop-gap, esp first proper run with the side.

Douehi didn't create that first try alone, the whole backline did. It was good ball from Walters, a better ball from Madden to bring Doueihi onto the outside of his mane, then a quality cut-out from Doueihi to hit the winger.

Started from an offload from Taylor who went to the line and passed back to Madden. In saying that your point is still correct. I was very impressed by Walters and Madden

Other players hyped on here that come to mind are one Rhys Pritchard and one Josh davis... I never really knew who they were and still don't.

Pretty obvious you’re not going to see speed if he can’t get the ball. He got bugger all time so to say he’s not quick makes no sense at all. If they pass the ball when they should have and he gets two tries he’s “quick as”. They don’t pass the ball and he didn’t get it once in the short time he’s on there he’s “slow and overrated”. Just laughable logic.

If he has a bad game - and he can just like any player - yes deserves criticism like anyone else. One thing I can tell you having watched him regularly and seeing his training stats is he is definitely not slow.
