What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

It seems the thread has drifted away from the original proposition to a familiar theme.
So what if the Wests Magpies were the sole feeder/reserve grade/State Cup side?
Cool, IMO

Mmmm what if Balmain-Ryde were the sole NSW Cup side? I think as time marches on and the diehard Balmain and Wests supporters die off then a single entity side in NSW cup will become a reality until that happens we can continue to have this debate because it wont happen in our lifetime IMO.

As it stands, I'd say we'd have a distinct advantage having two teams (and salary caps) to choose from. I'm not sure how the second tier cap works given we have these two teams though? Would appreciate any enlightment so I am not barking up the wrong tree

My thinking as well Alf we can help retain NYC players we weren't sure if they are going to crack into our top side . As I always like to say someone who is a standout in at the age 18 may not be at 22 and vice versa .

it looks like there might not be a team called balmain in the nsw cup next year. instead they might be called wests tigers. wests magpies will still have a team in the nsw cup and they might be getting nrl squad players from st.george illawarra and/or canberra

hmmmm
–-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the latest edition of Rugby League Review Wests' Chairman Paul Dillon was quoted:

"We made it clear at our AGM that Western Sububrbs will continue in 2012 on our own accord."

"We have been linked with Canberra and St George Illawarra but we have not spoken to anyone."

"But in saying that, we are willing to talk to any club should they wish to contact us."

The article also said that the balmain name would probably be missing from next year if Wests tigers want a single team in the State Cup i.e Wests tigers in the State Cup..

The balmain-ryde general manager made no comment other than a decision by their board would be made at the end of June.

Why not just cal our team Wests if Balmain dont want a team.It beats Wests having players in canberra and st george.

Sorry, but I just find this all ridiculous. Why not just cut Ryde-Eastwood out of the equation and rename Wests Magpies the Wests Tigers? Ryde-Eastwood does not have a share in the joint venture, why are they benefiting?

They won't/shouldn't do this, as from Wests Tigers point of view, it would be pandering to the seemingly whinging of Wests part of the WT board. For years they haven't wanted a joint State Cup side, so why should they be the one as a single entity to benefit from it. The only way to have all the players at one club is to have a Wests Tigers State Cup team!

I can never work out if you're trolling or are serious about these things… Have a think about the motives/intent of the Balmain and Wests boards and then post. One of them is trying to do the best for the JV they are a 50% stakeholder in and the other wants to please itself.

Pretty easy to solve this.

- Remove R-E
- Balmain and Wests continue representation up to SG Ball
- One team in state cup called Wests Tigers funded by the Wests Tigers
- Wests Ashfield does not have to pay for the state cup team
- Wests Ashfield and Balmain leagues contribute to the JV under the current arrangements ($500k cap)

Sounds like a sensible, common sense solution to me.

I agree to most of this last post but keep in mind balmain leagues do not contribute to wests tigers. The football club holds 50% of wt board. The football club may have indirect funding from the temporary leagues club and or ryde eastwood leagues. If wt had to fund a state cup team then wt will need to find $$. Wests Ashfield support wests nsw cup AND wt.

Ok, where exactly do you get your info from??? That is just blatant crap!

Balmain contribute the same as Wests Ashfield and Wests Campbelltown and Wests Football combined to the joint venture, and as a result have had to combine with Ryde Eastwood to fully fund the State Cup. In my opinion there would be no reason to eliminate Ryde Eastwood from the picture. The money that Wests and Balmain now spend on a State Cup could be combined to spend on a joint venture side, and if that involved Ryde Eastwood, then all the better with more funding. The side will still be Wests Tigers

You said balmain leagues not balmain football club. There is a differance. I said balmain leagues does is not a stakeholder in wt. Balmain football club is the stakeholder in wt.

I can never work out if you're handicapped or not.for the best of the reserves to go from a wests tigers jv to a team called ryde eastwood shows just who is trying to please itself.

If nothing else this thread is interesting in the same way a spirograph drawing is.

It may look different but it is all variations on the same circle

You can always go back to the start if this thread. If wests can fund a nsw cup team on its own and not burden wt and balmain cant fund a team nsw cup team on its own (which is why ryde eastwood is involved) then why cant it come down to survival of the fittest? We all know that money rules the roost these days no matter what it is.

I would have thought Wests as a 50% jv partner and over 100 years in top flight football would take precedence over ryde eastwood with a 0% share and a "who the hell are they " from team.

The reality is that Wests Tigers wanted to enter a Wests Tigers team in this years NSW State Cup.

If the move was not blocked by factions within the joint venture than this topic would not even exist as there would be a clear 3 grade structure of the Wests Tigers organisation fed by two foundation clubs through HM & SG Ball.
