Who can play at 6??

In our team JLJ –if we buy someone this year Benji Next year--Todd Carney , Josh Reynolds,Ryan Matherson I've seen him play 5/8 and he's good imo and Tyrone Roberts is a gun and deserves a good shot and he's a good goal kicker

I would go for Todd Carney…. if he can get NRL central approval.

Good idea. Let's have a party to celebrate the signing. Todd can bring the drinks.

… and a riding crop. You have to have a whip around the boys before you have a piss up.

Will there be a call to Benji? Moses to Eels in Round 8;l Benji to Tigers Round 8; wrist may be ok by then.

6\. Benji
7\. Brooks

You never go forward looking in the rear view mirror.

I can't believe the love for Benji after the forum went crazy when he left. But I'm also for it. Why not. He'll come cheap. The kids will love him. The TV commentators will be all over him like the love affair with the Burgoy and Mrs Burgess. He still loves the club and let's have a fairytale ending. Why not?
On another note - is Moses officially with the Eels for 2018? If he had the dummy spit on the weekend when we pulled the offer that still leaves a few more days for him to change his mind. Or am I missing something? Mind you I'm hoping he does leave.

No going back - (Benji made his bed/so did we at the time)

I'm sure I will get jumped on from a great height but….

I think JLJ would be the go at 5/8 for the rest of the year if Moses goes. He has a good kicking game and his defence is pretty good as well. Given Brooks is going to be the play maker, Jack won't interfere with that and only override on the odd occasion.

Don't think he has been given a decent go - shoved in at DH quite a bit - playing in a team for the last few weeks that were not trying (I hope that is right or we are in big trouble), playing with people hogging the ball, forwards being dominated etc.

Give him a few games under Cleary this year if/when Moses goes and look at signing a decent 6 for next year.

Disagree with Bird (not worth 900,000+), don't need a Carney (even if he was approved), Roberts is ordinary - Will Hopoate (please - we would also need a 5/8 even if he could play there to be available for Sunday games), not over fussed with what Tacky has come up with if they are available apart from Ryley Jacks who Cleary maybe able to do something with. I think Widdop is the only good 5/8 we could get for 2018 but why would he leave to come to us.

Really need a goal kicker of some discription if Moses goes this year and Rankin is the only alternative? Maybe he has to play 5/8 because of his kicking.

Quite a dilemma we could find ourselves in.

Its an interesting topic the Benji one.

His time is up and I know he wasn't happy with how things ended.

Cleary turned Soward into a very consistent half in his later years and well we could do with some positive media, team focus and experience.

It would be a massive about face for the club to welcome him back as well

Personally I wouldn't sign him but wouldn't be devastated if we did either provided he doesn't cost us a bucket load.

And you guys said my Benj Teddy player swap post was too unbelievable.

Your absolutely correct
But you won't see this as a title in the press

Anyone else feel like a backflip is on the cards? I wouldn't rule it out.. Has happened before. As the club has said, a new offer was being prepared for Moses.

I was desperate for Benji to leave when he did, so i cant believe im saying this, but why not bring him back for this year? We have no suitable half to partner Brooks, so lets take a punt on Benji having a decent few months which we all know he can have. How good would it be if Brooks and Benji lead a 2017 revival and we finish 8th while Moses at parra finishes 9th. Dreams can come true.

I was bloody annoyed with the way he left but I always said that wounds will heal in time.

If the season is dead and buried why not bring him back on a small contract to have a swansong with the club he started with?

Punters in row H, bring your helmets!

Nah, Moses will go. It would make the club look pretty weak now if they kept him. The club really need to be aggressive with negotiations with the other two so we know where we stand sooner rather than later, if they're gone then Cleary needs to be able to start signing players for next year ASAP.

Well the club must already look weak with Tedesco
Moses might stay you never know but one things for sure hell be offered a contract

Make a play for Ryan Matterson to play 6 for the remainder of the year, and he can go into backrow stocks next year… Surely we could offer him more than what the Roosters have him on?

This year? Honestly, I don't care. Anyone… anyone who will have a dig, give it everything they got and will tackle. This season is gone anyway and I can't see Moses winning many more games for us than a random plodder that will at least play like a maniac. To think we let Austin go for this numpty broke my heart. How about asking John Morris to come out of retirement? Say what you will about Johnny Cronk... at least he worked his arse off and tackled like a machine.

Conner Watson..who is actually a 6..?

I can understand the change of attitude towards Benji. I was upset he left, but Benji's fortunes have nose-dived since he did, people will feel a bit sorry for him I am sure. He doesn't seem like a bad bloke, he made the wrong decision to go to rugby (many have done the same before him) and he's worked really hard to salvage a rugby league career in his twilight years.

Or to look at it another way, Tigers dumped Benji to the bench, it didn't go well, he left. Farah got the same treatment, though I would say Farah's form was better than Benji's, the club still wanted to move in another direction.

But Benji was signed for Broncos in an established team, surely he had no high expectations of being in the run-on side, and he appears to be busting his arse even playing for Redcliffe. He's paid for his arrogance but is still putting in.

Farah has some time to go yet, but it's already looking like a similar path, benched by Souths, you get an injury and with your age it takes longer to recover, new kids with more energy become favoured… last time Robbie Farah was put in reserves he seemed to do his best to avoid being there. What if Souths drop him to North Sydney?
