Who's our Captain for 2018 ?

Lawrence and Taylor will be co-captains, like the Cowboys with Scott and Thurston or the Roosters with Cordner and Friend.

I think Reynolds will be a masterstroke from Cleary. Reynolds is probably thinking that he was going to play for dogs whole career so making him captain might make him feel that he really loves our club and it may rub out some of his poorer games.
Also having an enthusiastic outsider as captain shows team no more jobs for the boys.

Will be Chris Lawrence and ET as co-captains….... But I want it to be Reynolyds or maybe even Nofa.

Elijah Taylor is the best option. Calm, well spoken, plays 80, Reportedly the best trainer at the club and a cleanskin. With the amount of Kiwi or Polynesian players we might have might also be a better fit from a background standpoint. We will have a heap of NZ/ Pacific islander background players. Packer, Matulino, ET, Lolo, Sue, Milne, Suli,Nofa, Aloai. Maybe also Fonua and Rona.
There could be 11 starting players in total.

Unless Lawrence is certain of holding his position Im not sure he can be made captain. He no doubt is the right sort of man for the role but like said previous dont want to be dropping the captain if possible. Think that all but leaves ET.

Lawrence is a well educated articulate young man, and also most importantly a dedicated club man

I just want to see him speak up more with the refs, and be just a tad more assertive.

He could be a Cameron Smith like referee savant down the track…

Sorry to bring up in this thread but I would like to see Brooks successfully lead the attack on the field before installing as captain.

Only have to look at the last few games to see the lack of it without him.

I question whether Lawrence will be a starter, so whilst he is definitely part of the leadership group, captain, well….....

Lawrence does a lot of the hard dirty runs now in our marsh mellow pack and doesn't get much help look at the Broncos game to see what was missed…carried injury and cops why more bagging on here than he deserves lets see who puts their hand up for that against the Rorters this week and the following 4 or so while he is out...If anything he will be he who benefits from this new Beefed up pack people seem to be excited about in 2018 as the load will be spread...He's not an 80min player but he will start for us..the C is a token these days so much so most Clubs have a couple...

It's Leaders we want..Lawrence is one of those....as with the major recruits thus far...

ET for mine.

Lawrence leads by example but he is not assertive enough.

Brooks needs to stand up next year. He doesn't need the added responsibility of being captain.

I can vouch for last few games without him but cannot when he was playing as was OS and missed games.

Judging by most posts here .. it looks like everyone wants co captains next year and that should be ET and Lawrence, with a leadership group of ET, Lawrence, Packer, Reynolds and Nofa.

Lawrence is a smart cookie and could do the job well. I just don't know if he's a walk up start next season. Taylor would be my first choice at this stage.

Reynolds. An outsider who will embrace the leadership role. We (Ivan and the bus) are changing the culture of this club from a player perspective. Some might think this is weird having Reynolds as Captain but if you sit down, have a beer and give it some thought, you will find it makes sense.

Its the obvious choice imo.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty poor form when he chucked the ball at his teammate for making a mistake a couple of years ago. The tripping brain explosions don't help either. Not sure he'd actually be able to keep it together when speaking with the refs either, might talk us into more trouble in fact.

He doesn't have to be captain to be an on-field motivator and the heart of the team.

Lawrence should carry the C. There is a lot more to being the captain than inspiring the troops, these days a lot of it revolves around media obligations, referee management etc.

Given Lawrence's injury history, suggest that ET would be back-up/co captain, but there would also need to be other that make up the leadership group including the 2 above, Reynolds, Matulino, Nofa and Lovett.

Put it to a fan vote. Get each member of the squad to look down the camera and state, "It is what it is", then put the videos on the website.

I am an unabashed Lawrence fan and would love to see him made captain but the coach will need to look at the competition for spots and appoint somebody who will be chosen week in week out. I hope that's Lawrence but I'm just not sure.

After Woods we will need to have an assertive captain who will give the players a roasting if they aren't playing well enough and also be able to handle the media and referees in a professional manner - which Woods could not do.

+1 for Lawrence but lets get rid of the one captain style. We need leadership groups with Reynolds, Taylor, Lawrence, a back (nofo? is he up for it) sharing the role. Happy for a Souths model with 5 Co Captains.

That being said. We need a guy who can do good media, who is comfortable in the role. I like Woods as a player but our biggest BIGGEST mistake was making him Captain while this whole contract Saga was going on. He was stuffed in front of the media, his personality and laid back style just did not work with that role at all.
