Woods hammered by Tunks on Talkin Sport

Seriously if Woods is still pumping 200+ metres per game and if he's doing with aggression or without what is the issue?
Tell the guy to get a life and keep jibbering.

What's a 2SM?

Something like the raven messenger system in GoT?

Nobody knows, nobody cares what a couple of nobodies say to a bunch of nobodies.

Tunks benefited from playing with a great pack of forwards known for their hard, intimidating defence, when names are mentioned its always Folks,Cement,Langmack,Kelly that formed the back bone of that pack.Tunks he was just fortunate to be at the Bulldogs during those times. If anything Woods and Tunks playing styles and roles were and are similar.

I agree with Tunks, Woods has impressive stats but it seems like that is his focus just racking up stats, he doesn't play with any aggression or passion, i don't want to see props smiling, i want to see gritted teeth and fire in their eyes running hard and belting the opposition not dawdling and being passive, it actually looks like he's just playing for himself. He's really starting to irritate me watching him piss around with that head strapping too. Someone get him drunk and shave his friggin head ffs.

The bloke is a prop and makes 200 m and 30 tackles per game. Enough said.

Not arguing that he's not good , but stats are not everything. When was the last time you saw him stop someone like someone like Hargraves in his tracks ??

Stop opp props in their tracks? Constantly. We are talking about Woods right?

He's had maybe 3 or 4 bad missed tackles that I can think of in his career, one being Boyd on Sunday.

He doesn't lean in with the shoulder and put on punishing hits. It's not his style, he wraps the ball and drives to ground. Farah does the same, only Marty Taupau really leans into tackles, and got himself knocked out a few times for the trouble.

In fact I'd argue props aren't really around to be defensive enforcers, their job is to hold the ruck tight and stop big bodies at the line. If they spent all day putting on hits, they'd chop down their on-field stamina by 10 minutes.

Seriously his weekly stats are something like 35 tackles made, 0-1 missed.

Put ol' Georgie Porgie on his back too.

Looks like you and I have just got to agree to sort of disagree .
There's a lot of things about Woodsie that we both agree on, I love his usual workrateand I love having him in our team, and I respect the fact that he has achieved this at such a young age for a prop, however what I don't agree with , is your statement that "props aren't really around to be defensive enforcers"."
as someone who was a prop for most of my playing time, I can assure you that in all of the teams that I ever played in , or coached , the first responsibility was to not only keep it tight and stop big bodies at the line , but to try to Dominate the centre, meaning , that where possible to make the opposition think twice about running there again. ,

If you can get a video of last years first Souths game , you'll see what I mean, Woods really stood up in that game and made it his job to not only Stop Burgess in that game , but to dominate him and the other forwards
That and a couple of other games around that time showed what he can do
No doubt he'll get back to that level again.. .

Yeah I know mate, I was taking the piss. I care about that show about as much as BB cares for 2SM

Who cares. Tunks is paid to give an opinion, for whatever reason he has never liked Woods and jumps on him every time he has an off game.

Just because he has an opinion doesn't make it gospel.

The last sentence made me

Woods hair has to go. He spends too much time on it in a game. Chop it of for charity and I'll give $$$ for it to happen.

Woods is 10 times the player that Tunks ever was. The game has changed so much. i would rather Woods spend his energy eating up meters that chasing blokes around trying to be aggressive like a JWH.

I agree he needs a haircut. I reckon he should go the Keith Galloway look.

Heard it as well, some of the criticism was justified. I think Woods has been excellent and just had a relatively poor game by his standards. I think the issue for Woods is that he is a good player…...and he knows it.

Plenty of other discussion in the program, including several complaints about the jersey worn on Sunday.

Woods is laid back he presents that demeanour but still gets through plenty of work. He is starting to get a bit of a strut in his step and I remember three occasions when the trainer had to fix his hair during last weeks game. He probably needs to self assess and concentrate more on his game and less on image. As for Tunks well he played in a different era when props were viewed as 'hard' men and fought, usually literally to get on top of each other, his partner Peter Kelly imo was tougher again than Tunks. At the end of the day Woods is playing in a different era when props are lucky to get away with a '[This word has been automatically removed] 'slap or double palm to the face.

I hate this focus on aggression and enforcers…...waste of time

In the modern game most of the blokes who have this wrap rarely play in teams that win much. (JWH prob the exception) Bird, Scott, Lussick play in sides that usally struggle. Where as Melbourne have used the likes of Bromwithch, Norrie, White and Manly had King and Kite.

Do your job, which is make metres, draw in defenders and get a quick PTB in attack. Woods does this every week. In defense the middle men have to chase from marker, close the space and control the speed of the ruck. Woods again, very effective. He is a very good prop. More Lazarus or Webcke than Harragon and Carroll.

He missed a shocker on the weekend, and it changed the game, everyone who has ever strapped on a boot has done that.
