Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I would love to see Brooks and Laurie at 7 & 6 behind a quality pack. I’m not convinced that Moses is a good fit tbh.
I’d much prefer we target Dylan Brown if Laurie can’t find a spot.
I just don't think Madge was the right coach for Laurie. I hope Sheens can get him firing.
As far as ⅝ goes.... it's a quick decision making position and I'm wondering if it's Laurie's go. I see Laurie as a running support player.
He has played ⅝ as a kid though.
I just wish AD could play better at fullback.
If Laurie doesn't go to ⅝ and if ⅝ continues to be a problem then yeh, I agree Brown would be good. A big step up in dollars from Laurie though???

Recruiting seems to be more organised, even though the coach owns the roster and cap, Pascoe was a bit of a scapegoat in the past.
Now with old Sheens holding the reins Pascoe thank god has taken a back seat.
The office has the club in a healthy spot, now we just need this roster to click.
A couple more quality players are to come according to the journos.
Recruitment is not only more organised, but it is targeted.

Tough decisions have also been made with retention. Brooks if he stays will do so on a reduced contract. Hastings has been moved on with Doueihi likely to follow.

Their maths is good, we have 2 spots left. 😂 who would you target Cobar if you were coach?
Mate I'm a foward thinking man, even though I played centre I agree that forwards win matches.
I've always wanted Curran, but he's gone....Papali'i is my type of signing 😻
As far as backs go, I'd be trying to find a way of signing Herbie Farnsworth, reminds me of Schofield.

Yeh, I think Laurie is lucky to be playing FB and Doueihi is worse, but I can’t make up my mind on Laurie’s value to the team until I see him at 6. I agree with your view on his lack of spontaneity, but then again most of the team we’re missing that in 22. They all looked liked they were micro managed.

If we managed to sign Farnsworth, it could be the signing that gives us the respect we need.

I really think players like Laurie felt intimidated which falls in line with what your saying and from what I've heard about Sheens is he encourages confident play ala Marshall

When is the last time we landed a big fish when there has been a lot of media attention . Okay Api and Papi, but there was zero media speculation with those two, they just happened.

When there is a lot of media around a signing you can bet there is a player management behind it. So my gut feeling this will be like all the other ones and we are just bait to get another club to pay more. Been wrong a million times but seen this situation play out a lot with the same result
If your right I'd be gutted not because we missed out on Moses but because it's the exact thing Moses posse did when he left, if it happens again it means the club learnt nothing.

Yep, I think the best coaches are those who understand that people like to make their own decisions. It seems the experienced coaches have the patience to wait for those light bulb moments to illuminate the shed. It cant be easy when the board are tying a hangman's noose.

Laurie played well when he had something to play behind. He may not ever reach the heights of the top FB's but it won't matter who the coach is if our forwards get owned like they did in the majority of games last season - we won't see the best of him very often at this club. Recruited some good forwards any improvement will be on the back of their go forward and defence.

After the constant, nuclear level heartburn the whole I.Pap flipping on his deal caused this year, can you IMAGINE the level of mental health disintegration and neurotic brain explosions that would happen in season 23 if moses signs for 24……. Enough to make me hibernate off the site I reckon.

That's the thing really isn't it, we only know the players based on Maguires rigid structure that didn't suit the squad we had, maybe with Sheens more flamboyant attack minded approach the lads will look heaps better.

Yep that's what I'm thinking.
I look at it this way. Laurie hadn't much experience coming from Panthers so we were his first gig, he's a kid really.
Whilst he has a lot of critics, I think we should try another coach, another preseason after that knee injury and play hopefully with a better forward pack.
If by the middle of the season and he's killing it then upgrade him.
I'm sure that's the plan considering Staines was also given only 12mths.
If it fails on both those fronts we should be looking at who's available for 2024.

As a suggestion, is a "general" thread something we can create or get going.

You lose forum retention with stuff like this especially when probably half the members or visitors don't generally float to other threads (probs a stat someone like Kul could bring up?).

You start removing posts and topics from the local "watering hole" you might end up inadvertently killing the forum further. A general chat is always good as it allows people to interact and voice their opinions, and thats what forums are all about.
Its worked OK for nearly 20 odd years....now it needs fixing

Too much structure and telling people what to post where...seems like a bit of overkill, authority going to some heads

My god we have to wait now until ''the official'' game discussion thread is created by staff an hour before kick off....what if someone wants to start the discussion at lunchtime and we kick off at 4?

Treated like kids
